Veloce Bicycles

I’ve gotten two bikes here, plus stopped in for pretty much every other possibly reason. From flats and tune ups to asking for advice on bikes in general when I was shopping on Craigslist for my second fixed gear.
The guys here know bikes. It’s maybe not river city where a little boy will hand you coffee and follow you around the store like some puppy dog. These guys know their shit, and they will help you get a bike. It’s a small local business. I appreciate that fact and I accept what comes with it. The service isn’t automated. You are dealing with real people when you shop here.
I don’t know what the other people on here giving bad reviews did, but I’ve never had a problem.
I’ve never had trouble here. They work very fast too. Every time I’ve left my bike there for whatever reason they call me long before the calculated pick up time.
These guys know their stuff and they have always been friendly.

These guys are amazing, I bought a Fixie from them and it couldn’t be any better. The bike has great quality and it works really good. Their prices are low for the amazing quality you get. This is the best bike shop in Oregon.

We rented bikes to tour Portland for a day. High quality, lightweight rental bikes at very reasonable daily (and weekly) rates. Lots of different rental options, depending on your needs. Locks are provided — helmets available for rental at a small fee. If you are visiting Portland and want to spend a day biking around the city, rent your bike here — much higher quality than the hourly rentals by the river. The staff was also extremely helpful and quick to get us set up with our rentals and on our way!

Poor service… I called to reserve a bike and when I arrived they had rented out the bike I reserved. They gave me a bike that was too small and wouldn’t give a discount. Rent somewhere else.

I am from out of town and me and my friends came in to rent bikes for a race. We are novice riders but the guys working there hooked us up well with everything and made us feel confident about riding. They fitted us all for bikes and even had a bike rack for us to rent, and helped put it on the car. Overall the guys working there were a great help!

I was visiting in the area and wanted to rent a road bike. I’ve been taking my riding more seriously and didn’t want to miss a mid week ride and thought it would be a cool way to see Portland. I searched online for a good shop and called and definitely liked what I read and heard from Veloce. They rent bikes for 24 hrs. If you need to rent for less time you may find the price a bit expensive (I actually heard them recommend another shop that rented by the hour)…for me it allowed me to take my time and I assumed I’d get a good quality bike. I did. Great guys at the shop. Got me set up… took about a 50 mile ride all around the city… great way to see it, very bike friendly town. I would definitely recommend the shop to anyone. Cool hip area of Portland. Big thumbs up.

I moved to the Hawthorne area and bought a bike recently and Veloce is my go-​to bike shop in Portland. Although I didn’t buy my bike at Veloce, before I bought one I went in out of curiosity and they gave me a lot of great tips on what to look for and what kind of bike I would need for commuting, etc. When I did buy a bike, I brought it to them immediately and they made sure it was all ready to go while giving this road bike newbie more advice. Every time I’ve gone in they’ve been nothing but friendly, helpful, and fun to chat with. They don’t stop until the problem is solved, and the prices are fair for the excellent service you get. The atmosphere in the shop is super inviting and the decorations are all really neat. They’re dedicated to their brands, which I think is admirable as well. I’ll be trusting Veloce with my bike for as long as I live in Portland. Thanks guys!

I went in this shop looking for a commuter bike and was kindly told that I wouldn’t find what I was looking for here, because the bikes are expensive and was told to go to another shop. Not sure why the guy thought he knew the balance of my bank account based on my walking in the shop. I was so shocked I didn’t even know how to respond, I just knew I wasn’t going to spend my money there.

I originally went to Veloce to get a bike that would be my commuter. I picked out a bike and bought it, but in the first few weeks I realized the bike wasn’t quite what I originally thought it was going to be. The guys at Veloce were totally understanding and wanted to make sure that I got exactly what I wanted out of my bike. Over the course of the next week, we figured out a great solution and I am now thrilled with my morning ride to work each day.
The point of the story isn’t really so much about the bike, but more about the fact that the guys at Veloce are guys that stand behind their product and their service 100%. They were not happy until I was happy, and they were willing to go to great lengths to make sure that this was the case. Veloce has my loyalty now and I will be recommending them to anyone that asks me about bike needs. Pricy? Perhaps, but this is certainly a case in which you get what you pay for.

I was visiting and using a loaner bike that needed some air in the tires and the seat raised, Voloce was the closest shop and looked really cool besides. Was helped out without any hint of snobbery. They also had some pretty cool bikes there; if I were shopping around in Portland for a new bike I would definitely visit Veloce first.

Veloce had a great price in a close out Jamis bike, and I couldn’t pass up a new bike for less than used ones I was looking at. They have a selection of gorgeous road bikes (of all prices) and a limited selection of gear that’s pretty nice too.
Since my purchase, I’ve been back a couple times for routine adjustments and service. The guys at Veloce are always friendly and eager to help. I’ll gladly return to them if/​when I need any repairs and confidently recommend them whenever conversing about places to buy a road bike in Portland.

From my experience this place is a rip off. They wanted to overcharge me by, at the least, $ 5! I was able to get a better version of what I needed, new, for $ 8 less at City Bikes. Shop around before you shop here…

I’m into this place. I’ve been coming here for a while. They have quality products and greet me by name when I go in. Great service. Small inventory, but not a problem if you know what you want. One of my favs.

No reason to rent a bike anywhere else, though if you’re not comfortable on some variation of a road bike Veloce might not be for you. Skip and Matthew could not have been friendlier or more helpful setting up my one-​day rental; the bike I rented was superb (quite unlike the craptastic clunkers available at Waterfront Bicycles downtown). Would patronize this shop again in a heartbeat and I already plan to!

Got a flat 5pm on Friday; can change a tire myself, but couldn’t unscrew the nut.
Veloce was near so called them. «$ 6 for the tube, $ 5 for labor.»
Nice, clean little shop.
The guy really took the time to see where the hole was in the inner tube, then found the culprit in my tire, A curse upon thee tack!, anyway.
Seeing the care he put into changing out a tire was nice/​noticeable. Appreciate this shop was there and still open that time.

Came in because my «chain was being weird» and these guys helped me immediately, did not make me feel like an idiot, explained the problem in a very helpful manner, and charged me $ 15 for something I would never have been able to do myself.
Thanks for offering me cold water on this 97 degree day, engaging me in conversation, and not insulting me in the least-​which is more than I can say for the assholes at Citybikes. Thank you guys! My chain is no longer weird!

Up front: I have not bought anything from this store.
I am looking for a bike, I am 6’5″ and 220 which means there are very few bikes off the shelf that I can see or try. Also I had a road bike before and bent the hell out of it climbing hills so I know I need strong wheels. I wanted to look at a specific bike knowing they wouldnt have it in my size, they didn’t. But I talk with the guys for about 30 minutes and they suggested some options. I was happy to actually have someone talk to me about bikes and options. I have been to many bike shops in Portland and have had at best crap service. I mostly get ignored since most shops will not have any bike in a size that fits me. The only other shop that has given the same level of service is RIver City, but I have no problems with Veloce, I may even get a bike from them.

The guys here are so nice and really make an effort to make us feel welcome every time we go in with even the smallest of problems. They are a little more expensive, but worth it for the work they do.

This place is amazing and so are the guys that work there. I called completely last minute to reserve and rent a bike for my daughters tri-​athlon and they came through for us. My daughter got an awesome road bike and I think the cost was $ 30.00 or something like that. Great experience, very knowledgeable and funny staff, and great prices on a rental bike. This is our spot if we ever need to rent a bike again. Thanks to these guys for helping us out so last minute!

I needed to grease my crank, and these dudes helped me out.
Seriously, my crank was totally ungreased, I was afraid it was getting damaged, and I was in need of some crank grease, so I totally randomly stopped in to this joint when I had a few minutes between meetings and was in the area. I strode up to the counter and proclaimed «I need some grease for my crank, you got any?» and the smiling dude behind the counter walked me out to his grease rack and pointed out two options. I asked him a couple of questions about the grease, grabbed the one I wanted, paid, and cruised out.
It was a fast, easy, and friendly transaction. You could say it moved along like a well-​oiled machine.
I don’t often need to grease my crank (or anything else for that matter — my life is well-​lubed in general), so I don’t have any idea how much a tub of crank grease should cost. I have no idea if I got overcharged or not. The Unilocal listing says $$$$, so maybe (or maybe that’s for the fancy fixies in there, who knows?).
