This was a great find. My wife and I were up for an anniversary weekend. We got the escargot for an appetizer. It was pretty ok. I wish there was more garlic butter flavor than what was advertised. My wife ordered the prime rib, with a sweet potato with butter and brown sugar on top. She said it was delicious. I ordered the 12 ounce top sirloin with garlic butter on top, and some fries. It was fantastic. I also got a salad with ranch. It was a basic salad. Hot sourdough bread was served with olive oil, and parmesan cheese. The service was awesome. This place must be a local hotspot. Many of the patrons were recognized by the waiters, and waitresses. I wasn’t keen on the chairs that you sit in, they were rather uncomfortable. However, my wife, and I liked the food.

We have great restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area and wish the sandpiper were there. Great menu. Good wine list. Terrific service. Don’t miss it We had escargot for the first time in years. A bonus: looks like all the locals eat here

We had a very nice meal for four adults. The food, especially the prime rib, was superb. Save room for dessert because they are excellent. We would definitely come back.

What a nice place! A little pricey but good service and beer. The bar tender recommended the house salad, that was great. The pork tenderloin was excellent. It’s a hot spot in this small town. Enjoy!

The food and service are both always really great. On busier nights you can’t get a table without a reservation but that is to be expected as it is one of the nicer restaurants in town. It is a little bit pricey but worth it in taste and quantity. My husband and I enjoy going for special occasions.

My wife and I stopped into the Sandpiper Restaurant last night. It was my birthday, and I had a $ 50.00 gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. In the eleven years I have been a Pocatello resident, I have been to the Sandpiper about five or six times. On each of those occasions, my wife and I were guests of others, and they chose this dinner spot. I have to say that none of my dining experiences with Sandpiper would rate even faint praise. Usually, when my wife and I are alone, and prowling around for a decent dinner experience, we have avoided this place. But we had this gift certificate. So, getting right to the whole experience, we’ll start with our meal selections. I chose the«Beef Filet Medallions In Gorgonzola Cream». This dish was described as; «Seasoned and seared medallions accompanied with sauteed portabello mushrooms in a Gorgonzola cream sauce and tossed with linguine.» The menu description sounded interesting enough, but the meal delivered was not the meal I expected. My «medallions» appeared to be three small sections of some tenderized beef, which appeared to have been pounded and flattened into submission. The pieces were uneven shaped, and they were stringy and tough. The beef appeared to have been dredged in flour, and pan fried to a slimy consistency. Not much flavor, and very challenging to chew. The Gorgonzola cream sauce proved to be an even more challenging experience. The Gorgonzola cream sauce arrived atop a small heap of very under cooked linguine pasta. Some of the ends of pasta actually«crunched» in my mouth in the first couple of mouthfuls. The cream sauce was laced with large slices of shallots, and very few visible slivers of mushroom. The cream sauce was heavy — so thick in fact — that in the time it took for the dinner to reach me, the Gorgonzola sauce had congealed. This left me me with a rather comical struggle, to try and eat the linguine, without accidentally removing the entire heap of pasta from the dish, in one large forkful. After a few attempts to eat the meal gracefully, I gave-up. I stuck with the salad, bread, and my drink. The meal price was $ 17.99. My wife ordered the«Asiago Crusted Cod», described as; Succulent white cod encrusted with an aged Asiago cheese grilled to a golden brown, served atop a mixture of artichoke hearts, roasted tomatoes and sliced shallots.” I saw the look on my wife’s face, when the waiter placed the meal in front of her. She waited until the waiter was comfortably distanced from our table, and she leaned in and whispered, «What the heck is this?» I told her she should at least try the fish, and I went back to my drink. After three bites of fish, my wife stuffed her fork in front of my face. «Here. Try this. This is supposed to be the fish. There’s NO flavor. I can’t taste anything.» I had to agree. It would have been nice if the fish at least had the flavor of salt or pepper, for certainly there wasn’t a hint of Asiago cheese flavor or any other flavor at all. The other part of her meal also defied description. There was much brown rice on the plate(not described in the menu description). What there was, was a hideous presentation of some shards of mushrooms, a few leaves of artichoke hearts, some greens(?), some shards of what appeared to be beets, and a scant mixture of fresh tomato mixed with roasted tomato. What it really looked like was the remnants of somebody’s garden salad, which had been overturned onto a bed of rice. It was not tasty, and it was quite visually unappealing. The meal price was $ 16.99. In total, we spent the entire $ 50.00 gift certificate, plus and additional $ 22.88, which included two small salads(an extra charge), some bread for the table, and a mixed drink for each of us. We gave our usual 20% tip. The table service was modest, and competent. But I have to say again, this is NOT a good place to eat — not by a long shot. The noise level is amazingly loud, and the overall ambiance and décor are outdated by at least thirty years. Yet, I still marvel at the fact that Sandpiper always seems to be mobbed, and the parking lot is always full. I just can’t figure it out. The food is not outstanding. I can think of a few other restaurants, outside of town, that could have done a far better job preparing these dishes, and for less money. I am beginning to think our local four-star Unilocalers must not get beyond the city limits to eat-out very much, huh?

The atmosphere tends to be on the loud side. Food and service are fantastic. I highly recommend the Hawaiian Halibut Crunch.

I am a fan of Sandpiper but they don’t do Thanksgiving well. I mean yuck. Dried up rolls, green bean casserole was so bad. Stick to what you do good Sandpiper. Don’t ruin a good reputation with that.

Fantastic! I travel weekly so I eat out a lot and love good fresh REAL food. This is the place to go in Pocatello. I had the fresh seared Ahi… amazing and VERY fresh. I also had their signature dry rub steak that was cooked perfectly. Traveling solo I normally eat at the bar, the bartender was great and the other customers at the bar were all regular customers that made me feel like a local regular. Overall enjoyable dining, will be back every time I am in town for sure.

I’m giving this place five stars because… it is the best food in the city of Pocatello. If this establishment were in San Francisco then I’d still give it 4 stars. Consistently putting out great food no matter what night of the week we e been there… so the kitchen is stable and knows what they are doing. High quality food in a city of chain restaurants and fast food. Their dinner salad is scrumptious(if you like baby shrimp) with a fantastic house creamy Italian. Every appetizer we have tried has been delicious with the clams in broth and sourdough bread being my favorite. Ask for bread with garlicky dipping sauce and you won’t be disappointed. The booths are a tad bit dated but the boisterous atmosphere and decent service make up for it. Patio dining seasonally and well worth it. Good value for the money. Open for dinner only. A must try!!!

The Sandpiper Restaurant is Avery memorable experience. From the front door where the manager/owner greets you all the way to the back patio where the cordial staff continues to pamper you. The cuisine was lovingly prepared and presented. I had the FiletTenderloin Steak and My Husband had the ribeye steak. Both of them would melt in your mouth. The Mud Pie was to die for. We can’t say enough good about this place. We were dressed casually after a day on the road but we were welcomed and felt like we belonged there.

This is a tough one. Service is pretty good at least as far as my experience at the lounge. However, I did order the chicken oscar with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were good, chicken was dry as an old shoe! The crab tasted canned. No seasoning on either, which if cooked correctly shouldn’t need it. In any regard, it was over priced. The only good I have to give was that I discovered a new local brewery…

A place busy with both locals and tourists, The Sandpiper produces some nicely turned out steaks. The service is adequate but not terribly sophisticated. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing, and there’s an option for outdoor tables in season. We got a 10% discount by showing our room key for our hotel across the street.

This is a great restaurant to visit! My husband and I have been there on several occasions and have never been disappointed. I have a couple of favorite dishes that I would recommend: the prime rib dinner and the chicken oscar. Both are very tasty and very filling. Also, we love dining on their patio in the evening; it is very pretty and a nice change of pace from dining indoors. I almost forgot to mention their house salad! It is delicious! I would highly recommend adding it to any dish that you decide to order!

Well personally I’m a huge fan of the Sandpiper. Salads rock, the crab and the prime rib are well, prime. And I have heard the mud pie is to die for. And the delicious mints at the end just are a nice touch. Honestly in my opinion it is one of, if not the best places in Pocatello!

We were here on my last night in town and it came slightly short in terms of rating due to us getting a server who was training another server. We were seated and then told that our server had a trainee in tow. We noticed a different couple who arrived, sat, ordered, and received their order before we even ordered appetizers. WTF? Really? We ordered the escargot, the half/half combo that has a breaded in macadamia nut fillet, with a grilled half-sirloin steak that was brought out sizzling, topped with some cute as hell mushrooms. After dinner we made room for the best mud pie I’ve ever had. It was epic in scale, cheap, and delicious. We killed it. I stayed at the Super 8 next door, so we just walked right over. Please note that this place is considered the nicest dining establishment in Pocatello. Hopefully timely service will be available next time. I want to get my grub on again for sure!

Traveling through Pocatello. Stopped for the night, and asked our hotel where was good to eat. They recommended the Sandpiper, which was right next door. great suggestion! Very nice, cozy place, walls lined with old wood, gives it that rustic feel. The waiter brought us some hot bread and a oil, garlic, cheese plate to spread on it. Yum!!! I had the chili lime flat iron steak, and my girlfriend had the short ribs. Both were excellent. Great service, nice wine list. A must go when in town. Plus, very reasonable price.
