Rats… Looks like the Green Bamboo has wilted and died. Went by to have lunch here today and they are closed…

This is a good find in Pflugerville. They serve both Vietnamese and Chinese food in a corner spot of a small shopping center. Check out their web site for some nice descriptions, prices and photos of the meals. I went for the first time with phở in mind. I ordered the Phở Tai Chin and it made a nice meal for $ 7.00 a bowl. I also had a small pot of green tea. These two items did a wonderful job of warming me up on a chilly day. I’ll definitely return to sample some of the rest of the menu — maybe a seafood dish or some fried rice.

I was a regular at the original Green Bamboo and ate there at least twice a week. Needless to say I was devistated when Phil had to close his doors. Fortunately, the New Green Bamboo is nothing short of outstanding! The staff is very friendly, service is prompt, and the food is top notch. The Phở and Bun dishes are a great value at $ 7. The lemongrass chicken dinner is not quite as good to me as the old Green Bamboo, but is still one of my favorites. This place will certainly continue to get my business.

We went to both the Old Green Bamboo and the New Green Bamboo. When we first tried the old restaurant, it was terrible, overpriced, and flavorless. We never returned. Then we saw that it was under new management, and we were desperate, so we gave them another shot. Boy am I glad we did! I’ve tried the orange peel chicken, and several types of Bun. I became a huge fan of Bun(a Vietnamese pasta-like dish, like Phở but without the broth) from this place. The price of the Bun is very reasonable(7.00) with a huge portion. I spoke to the waitress who told me that when they reopened they hired a new chef. This explains why the food actually tastes good! Their orange chicken was also decent, although not as spicy as I usually like. I definitely recommend them! The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating and I’m sure that I saw the manager or chef poking his head out to see if we enjoyed our dishes. Interestingly, when we arrived for our latest dinner, there was construction noise that was very loud. The manager or owner said something to our waitress, who went into the back, and the noise stopped. I can’t say for sure whether or not it was coincidence, but we felt comforted that we could eat our dinner in peace.

This Vietnamese restaurant is under new management. I live nearby and decided to stop by, hoping I would find some great Phở. I was not disappointed! There were several kinds of Phở, I got mine with rare and well done flank, and the $ 7 bowl was Huge! I got all the goodies on the side. I also tried the fresh shrimp spring rolls — I got two large rolls(a good value for $ 4) and the sauce with peanuts on top was perfect. Finally, I tired the Vietnamese coffee(strong coffee with condensed milk over ice) which was authentic — they brewed it right at my table. The interior dining room is large and clean, with one large projection TV. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and service quick. Can’t wait to go back!
