Stopped in here for a quick bite while shopping, we loved it! Awesome food, great service and a great atmosphere. Would definitely return, I recommend this spot to anyone in the mood for great sushi. Also recommend the spicy scallop roll.

After passing this place for Ani Ramen a few times it came time to finally give it a try. The setting is very nice and the presentation of food matches this as well. To start we had the special pork dumplings with peanut sauce appetizer. There are 6 of. Them, not bad for 2 or 3 people to share. They were pretty good. To pick them up with the chopsticks were a bit tricky though. The thing that stuck out was the presentation — fancy plates and glasses and even the chopsticks which aren’t the usual wood kind. decided to try the shrimp teriyaki which came once again with nice presentation, but also a good amount. I was impressed with the amount of shrimp in the entrée. The actual food was good, delicious sauce which there could’ve been more of but was still great. It’s especially good to see other choices on the menu since I’m not a sushi Conisseur.

This place was excellent! Glad I decided to give it a try. The service was very friendly and helpful. We had a delicious pork dumpling in peanut sauce which I recommend. I also had a miso soup, seaweed salad, and eel roll which was really good. The ambience was very nice as they had some cool lighting. The booth did have a very straight back which was a bit strange so just watch out for that. The best part was getting a free dessert for checking in on Unilocal! We got the special vanilla bean crème brûlée and it was enormous. Very tasty too.

I had a really positive experience here in regards to food. One thing kinda rubbed me the wrong way though… When I walked in I was asked if I had a reservation… Yeah I wasn’t expecting that. Your located on Bloomfield avenue by a smoke shop, a bike shop, and a liquor store. I wasn’t expecting to make a reservation. I’m shopping and want some food. Don’t get me wrong, the place is beautiful, the ambiance was great, and the food was wonderful My husband ordered the chicken fried rice and the chicken teriyaki. He said the chicken wAs great. I tried the fried rice myself and it was very good. I ordered the pumpkin shrimp soup and the sexy lady roll. The sexy lady roll was one of the best shrimp tempura rolls I ever had. It’s topped with a spicy crab salad that was perfect. My pumpkin shrimp soup was surprisingly good. I almost regretted ordering it thinking that it was too much of a risk but I’m so glad I did. It was a simple pumpkin soup with two shrimp on top. I would of never anticipated the combination of the two main ingredients to Come together so nicely. Food does take a little while here, it takes a little Longer which definitely results in higher quality food than the average Japanese restaurant in the areA. I would go again.

On Halloween, my friends and I stopped here for dinner before heading out. It wasn’t crowded, but I’m not sure if that’s typical for a Saturday or if it was due to the holiday. We had a great dinner here. It is BYOB — we brought champagne and wine, which the waiter promptly opened and poured. For food, I had the chicken teriyaki which was grilled nicely and had a tangy teriyaki sauce with veggies and rice on the side. My friends had various sushi which looked tasty. We brought a cake since we were celebrating a birthday and the staff nicely kept it refrigerated until it was time to cut it. I’ll be back.

Great sushi. Great location. It’s not comparable to places like Blue Ribbon in the city but it’s still damn good. Kapow!

This was an awesome place! It is great for groups, there was six of us and they accommodated my table, the ambiance was great and the food was excellent! No doubt I would definitely come back. I was there on a Sunday night so there was not a lot of people bug regardless great service and great food. Loved the rock and roll roll… Had excellent appetizers, the tuna tartare was amazing! And the shrimp rock’s sauce was delish !! Wish they had more specials or menus with the specials to pass around. My table only got one and some people missed out on the specials bc they didn’t see the menu. This is a Byob so it was great for a big group.

Great sushi restaurant! Arrived at 7 on a Thursday and it was empty; tables readily available. Décor is sleek and modern. We were given a front booth with a view of Bloomfield ave– in my opinion, best seat in the house. Server was very sweet and helpful. Ordered the duck spring rolls due to the overwhelming thumbs up on Unilocal.I was not wowed, and would say they would mediocre at best. The sauce could have been spicier and the duck could have been more tender. Between two of us, we shared and ordered four rolls — the awesome tuna roll special was a standout, as was the red spider roll. Also got the spicy salmon — standard but solid. Getting our bill was slow, even with less that a packed house.

Such a good restaurant for sushi and French food. We ordered a la carte with sushi, sashimi and roll. An order of sashimi here comes with 3 pieces! Most places are two pieces. We finished up with the cheesecake and a cappuccino, both were nicely presented and delicious. This place is a jem in my opinion and people should really know more about it

We have been here twice and ordered from here two or three times. Each time the food has been very good. Right now this is our go-to for sushi in the neighborhood. Here is an oddball thing I wanted to mention, hoping that management reads this. I gave this place four stars so yes, I’m being crazy and nit-picking, but hey… They give you three menus and a pencil to start. THREE menus. One is a regular menu, the other is a specials menu, and the last is a paper menu for you to check off what you want to order from the sushi bar. This is confusing and even more annoying. Why have a paper menu to fill out when you wind up telling the waiter what you checked off on the menu anyway? Why not just consolidate to one menu and place the specials in a piece of paper inside the main menu?

The sushi here is delicious but there are two items on the menu that I’ve had so far that I can’t find at any other sushi restaurant. 1) The Orange Tuna appetizer(I can’t remember the name) … It’s INCREDIBLE. I don’t know what type of sauce they put on it but whoever created it is brilliant. 2) The Poached Pear Dessert … The pear is poached in a wine glaze. It’s so delicious that I’ve actually tried recreating it at home without much success.

Awesome food, Montclair you never seize to disappoint me! We arrived around 9:30pm on the Monday of Memorial Day and I felt so bad, as the restaurant was pretty dead and the poor woman looked like she was dying to go home, but she sat us down and gave us excellent service and even better food. I asked her which seared tuna appetizer we should start with and she came out with this beautiful dish of large chunks of raw tuna in red pepper flakes, fresh pieces of avocado, and cut up orange slices. The food presentation itself was enough to wow me. They cut out the inside of the orange and packed it with tons of tuna and avocado. The plate itself was pretty large and everything was very fresh. I told the waitress to pick out two other specialty rolls and she did not disappoint.(I would highly recommend just asking the waitress what to order there are so many rolls!) Again, the presentation was outstanding and the sushi was exceptional. My thoughts are, I can have sushi just about anywhere, why should I come here and I’ll tell you what, I will certainly choose this place over other sushi places next time! The specialty rolls were only $ 16 too, I’ve been to places where they charge you $ 18+ and the rolls aren’t even as good!

Aozora has some of the best sushi I have had in a while. We started the meal off with spicy miso soup, which I thought was delicious and sinus clearing. We ordered about 4 rolls for two people and that was plenty. The sushi was artfully crafted, huge, and tasty. We ordered the Montclair roll among others. Almost be sure to check in on Unilocal and get a free dessert! We got a free bread pudding to share. The interior was sleek and cool, but not pretentious. The servers were friendly and didn’t rush us out on a Saturday night. I’d go back!

Delicious sushi, fresh fish and large portion accompanied by very affordable prices and friendly service makes this my new favorite sushi place in Montclair and actually in northern New Jersey. Try their omakase! You will leave very happy and with a full belly. I’m a bit of a uni snob, yet the uni was fresh and sweet as it should be! Definitely coming back very soon

Nothing memorable here. I’ll be completely honest. We couldn’t get a table at Ani Ramen and settled on coming here, angry and disappointed. There were only two tables seated and we were asked if we had a reservation(?). I agree with other Unilocalers that the menu is all over the place and there isn’t much to choose from. The ambiance is nice, but a little off and out of place. We had tuna sushi, the pork dumplings with peanut sauce special and a udon noodle entrée. Nothing was fantastic. Wish we could get a table at Ani Ramen. This place needs to step it with all the new blood coming into the area.

A friend & I selected this based on the generally good reviews & came for an early dinner Sunday. BYOB Ambiance– OK, modern layout. Service– Friendly but not very knowledgeable about their menu Food– OK. A lot of their sushi maki rolls seems to have cooked fish… I don’t about you, but that isn’t really sushi to me. And it was very bland. My local go-to/pick-up spot in Lodi, NJ is way better tasting. Perhaps some other main dishes are better?(Debating whether I will give it another shot or not). $$- Reasonably priced The saving grace why I am giving this place 3 starts instead of 2… the appetizer(Hawaiian Tuna/Tuna Tartar & the dessert –Cheesecake) were delicious! Unilocal– One free dessert with Unilocal check-In offer.
