FAVORITEASIANRESTAURANTINCHINATOWN! Although the parking is very limited here, there’s and underground lot, which the restaurant validates up to an hour for. Definitely a little hole in the wall restaurant. The service here is nice and friendly. The food comes out quickly and everything is just delicious. I either get combination dry noodles or the Mee Ketang. The combination dry noodles have a good portion of noodles and meat. The soup on the side that they offer is more than enough for your meal and it comes with a huge pork bone in it. Get a side of the chinese donuts and dip it in the soup. Best way to make use of the big portion of soup they give you. The mee ketang is a dish with big rice noodles and gravy with beef, broccoli, and mushrooms. I love the gravy on it. They now have the option to use card! If your meal is $ 15 or more, you are eligible to use card.

Combination dry noodles was delicious and plenty of meat. The fish porridge was no good… didn’t have a lot of flavor, but humongous portion. Interior is a typical Asian restaurant, dirty and filthy! Parking is garage next door with one hour validation.

I came here to try their samlar machu(hot and sour beef soup, $ 15.95) and it was definitely enough for two people, so I took the rest home. This soup isn’t too spicy and gets its sourness from lemongrass and tamarind. It tastes a lot like tom young goong but I prefer the crispy morning glory(water spinach) shoots. It’s what makes the dish unique. The cuts of beef include tripe and stomach, but they’re cleaned very well so that you only taste the animal, not what it had eaten before it was slaughtered. Parking is difficult; they have limited street and lot parking. Next to the restaurant is paid parking($ 5 for the whole day), so if you’re planning to spend a day in Chinatown, it would be worth it. The service was nice and friendly and the food good enough for me to come back and try more of their traditional Cambodian dishes.

I started coming here for lunch, with several of my coworkers, a couple of years ago. «Mama Judy», our very own Vietnamese interpreter and the one that suggests what is best on the menu, knows the owners well and has been coming here for years. May I also add that«Mama Judy» is also the youngest and smallest member of our group. Not much to look at on the outside, with old school décor inside, but the food is some of the best you’ll find in Chinatown. My first Vietnamese/Cambodian restaurant. On my several visits now, I’ve ordered the lunch specials of Duck and Lemon Grass Chicken, Like family here, but that may be due to our personal ambassador«Mama Judy».

Haven’t been here since I was a teenager and honestly, it is still just as good as I remembered. If you can look pass the shady exterior and the old looking interior, the food will definitely surprise you. It serves Chinese/Cambodian fusion food; very authentic. They have noodles(Hu tiu), rice dishes which comes with free bowl of soup, and family style dishes. Probably the best go to place in Chinatown. Their ice teas are pretty tasty and refreshing too. Definitely recommend it. Side note: –small parking lot on the side and street parking –takes credit cards but gotta spend minimum of $ 15.

Anytime I’m in the area I try and make it here for their«babaw chiem jrook,» as Cambodians would call it. Growing up I had pig bloods porridge every weekend and it was delicious and now it’s seldom. So whenever I get the chance I have that with their Chinese donuts and enjoy every savory bite just as I did when I was younger. My husband and daughter love it too! I’ve made it before, however, it is time consuming. The ladies there are sweet and playful. Minus 1 star only because this place is outdated. Will continue to dine here… I want some now, actually.

I love this place! The service is amazing and the food is even better. I am Chinese Cambodian, so this place holds a special place in my heart. I find that the noodle soup here is better than Vietnamese phở places. If you’re looking for a phở-esque dish with more flavor, this place is where you wanna be. One thing to remember is that they’re closed on Thursdays.

Leaving Long Beach the heart of Cambodia, to try New Battambong Restaurant thinking it’s not going to be that great. We walked in sat ourselves dwn, waitress(owner?) walked up to us and gave us a menu. As we looked around the deco was pretty standard, the Cambodia Angkor Wat and Apsara(Khmer dancers). It’s about 1 in the afternoon but we still ordered the noodles(anytime is a good time for noodles). We had the duck egg noodles and wonton with egg noodles with a side of chaquai(Chinese donut).we both ordered dry noodles so it comes with a side of soup with pork bones to sip on. The condiment tray that sits on the table seems to be clean, no dirt or died flys so I’m pleased about that. They take debit and credit cards also. I would come back here.

More like 3.5 stars. I upped them to 4 stars for being accommodating and accepting our group of 8 about 15 minutes before they close, and still provided us with friendly service. Food was solid. We ordered dishes recommended by one of the owners as we wanted to sample dishes that were more Cambodian than Chinese. I enjoyed most of the dishes I tried, but since I was more in the mood to try something strictly Cambodian, the only dish that stood out for me was the one off menu item dish which features sliced raw vegetables of eggplant, cabbage, cucumbers and such that are to be dipped into a sauce made with ground pork and fish paste(?). I also enjoyed the beef salad very much as I found it light and refreshing. The beef sour soup was OK for me, as it does require and acquired taste(IMO). One thing that lacked in the menu as far as the list of offerings that are more Cambodian style oriented, so aside from the salad, we ordered the Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce. Service was friendly and rather attentive. They have a small parking lot on the north side of the restaurant, or metered street parking.

I really enjoy the different types of food from this restaurant. My boyfriend and I usually get our food to go from this place almost every other weekend. We usually get the pan fried noodles. Porridge is also great from here as well especially if you’re trying to get through a hangover ^_^ Good food, friendly service, you can’t really go wrong here. I would’ve given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the parking situation. There is very few parking spaces at this restaurant.

I gave it another try and the food seems to be better. Their portion size is good and good to share.

This is Cambodian Chinese cuisine. There are a few Cambodian influenced dishes but some of the dishes seem like straight out Chinese. Can ‘t say the dishes are bad but they are not exceptional either. Did not order a dish that is exceptionally good. So there is nothing to report here. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful so this is a plus for an Asian joint.

First Cambodian restaurant that I’ve tried and it was pretty good. No complaints here except my concern for parking for other customers who want to try. All the restaurants around this area only offer paid lot parking or street parking. :( Wasn’t busy at all when my coworkers and I went. I liked the fact that they were quick to take our orders and offered complimentary thai tea(without the milk, just the tea which I prefer + unlimited refills!). I ordered their crispy garlic chicken and it came with a bowl of soup which tasted really good. Their chicken was a bit too oily for me but not terrible. Fairly priced and well worth it. I’d consider coming here for lunch again soon!

It’s a little mom and pa Vietnamese/Cambodian hybrid shop. They’re known for their rice noodle soups(hieu tieu/phnom penh). I got the #1 «dry» style, and it comes with a generous bowl of bone broth with a ginormous bone with chunks of meat still on it. Their Chinese donuts are so fresh. Get one to dunk in your soup! Totally hits the spot on a chilly day. Their«parking» lot is a nightmare, but there are plenty meter spots. And as always in Asian neighborhoods, cash only!

The food here is good and very comforting. You can’t go wrong with ordering the house special soup. Make sure you order the Chinesedonut to go with it because it’s fresh, unlike batambang in the SGv, that location serves it to you cold and it tastes stale. PArking is a bit tricky, it’s on the side ofthe restraunt it’s hard to get out, be careful, bad drivers around that area. Like I said, food is good, comes out fast, and it’s pretty authentic. There is a Tv but it’s always in a Chinese channel. I will definately be coming back if I’m in the area to try their other soup dishes and rice dishes. maybe the Beef Luc lac.

I’m a firm believe in supporting small local businesses, especially the ones in Chinatown. Screw gentrification. New Battambang is a Cambodian-Chinese owned restaurant. I usually come here for breakfast or lunch for some good old noodle. You can’t really go wrong with #1 Phnom Penh Noodle(with soup or the dry one for $ 6). With the dry noodle version, you can mix with some hoison sauce, sriracha, a little of sugar, and lemon juice. SOGOOD. The soup comes on the side. Don’t forget to order Chinese donut to dip into the soup. Remember that this aint no Phở, so don’t put those sauces into the soup. The soup itself should already be flavorful. They have parking on the side or the underground parking structure next door(get validation before you leave). The workers can speak Cambodian, Canto, and English so don’t be afraid of language barrier :)

Bleh food equals bleh review! Is New Battambang Restaurant Cambodian? Is it Chinese? Is it… ITDOESN’T MATTER, WHATEVERITIS, IT’S NOTTHATGOOD! Maybe I ordered the wrong things but the food I got was average at best! The quality of the meat wasn’t that good and they managed to fck up Honey Mayo Walnut Shrimp. It was soggy and BLAND. I Sriracha’d the hell out of it so I can finish the whole order by myself! If my imaginary trainer is reading this, don’t worry, the portions weren’t generous! Probably won’t be back here again.

New Battambang is a restaurant that my coworker has recently discovered. He went a few days ago(which I skipped out on) and suggested it again today. This time I decided to get in on the lunch-run he has a pretty good track record of suggesting places to eat. I’m not going to get into the whole«Is it Cambodian?» «Is it Chinese?» debate because frankly I do not know too much about either cuisine. In fact the very same coworker always makes cracks about my extremely Anglo tastebuds(He’s Chinese and has recommended to me Fallopian Tubes, congealed pigs blood, and fish that are cooked but still breathing — and recently he did get me to try Jellyfish(like a tiny bite, but still I did it!) so of course he had to laugh when out of the menu of «steamed live fish», «frog», and meats and meals that I can not even pronounce I chose kung pao chicken. The meal was listed as $ 8 and we did not know if it came with rice(it does), and heck quite frankly sounded safe. So off he went to pick it up(I don’t know if they do delivery, and quite frankly we’re a cheap bunch so we always opt for pick-up when available). He came back with a generous portion of kung pao chicken, rice, and some complementary bone soup(which initially I was leery of *cue Anglo moment*) but I decided what the hell(also kept pushing the bone and the somewhat attached meat aside) and gave it a shot. Funnily enough the bone soup(well the broth) was my favorite part of the meal. It had a kick to it, was flavorful, and warmed me up tremendously. The kung pao chicken was okay, had a good meat to veggie to peanut ratio but I don’t think it would be something I would order again. For me personally it was lacking in the flavor department. I would however try more/different items from NBR(although, yeah no pickled frog legs for me yet…) and do appreciate their generous portions(the bone soup/broth was free and huge!). [As an additional note they are cash only and close early 6PM. Also the pictures here on Unilocal are pretty standard representations of what you’ll get.]

I phoned in an order for carry out — #24(Beef Lok Lak with fried rice) and an Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk. My order was ready for pick up when I arrived, and the staff was friendly and easy to deal with. The food tasted decent, and they filled the box to the brim. A small cup of vinegary sauce and a container of bone soup was included with the meal. I felt the price of the food was more or less commensurate with the quality and quantity provided, though better values can be had elsewhere. As this place is not too far from where I usually work, I plan to return here frequently for lunch. This place does close rather early at 6pm, but I suppose I can’t blame the restaurant operators for wanting to go home at a reasonable hour either. Nothing particularly special about this place, but I still liked it enough just the same.
