Absolutely love this place! The patio is great, been several times for dinner & have never had a problem getting sat. Always great service & the food is to die for! The masala fries are insane, I pretty much hoover them as soon as they hit the table! The Buddha curry is amazing, I tried recreating it at home & couldn’t get close to the deliciousness that I got here! Garlic/garlic Parmesan naan is top notch! Can’t wait to come back soon!

If you like bad food at high prices, you’ll love Cowboys and Turbans. Seriously, wow, maybe the whole«Indian-Mexican fusion» concept should have been the clue, but our food at this place was straight-up bad. Not merely«inauthentic» — even if you’d never eaten Indian food you could tell this was inferior fare — just bad. Let me count the ways: we ordered chicken biryani. The biryani came out in a dish covered with a sort of baked dough. I get the concept: dough is sometimes used to surround the lid of a pot of biryani to seal in the steam, but this came across as gimmicky and perhaps was used to hide how bad the rice looked. The rice! Oh heavens, the poor rice. Biryani = Basmati rice and whatever rice was used was undercooked and not the delicate fluffy Basmati that biryani is synonymous with in India. What was even worse was the fact that the spices were left raw and completely uncooked into dish. Eating raw, uninfused masala spice is deeply unpleasant and unappetizing. Someone else at our table ordered Aloo gobi and she reported to same issue with spices as well as undercooked potato. The experience reminded me of nothing so much as the time I tried making Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice with garam masala in my dorm room microwave. I think even that was a superior biryani, and it didn’t cost $ 20. The chicken was drier than this year’s El Nino. The mango lassi was inexplicably kept in a glass with ice cubes and didn’t have that smooth yogurt flavor associated with lassi. We related all of this our waiter. The waiter was a nice enough guy, but didn’t do anything about our concerns apart from give a meek apology and hand us our exorbitant bill. If you’re in the area and want edible Indian food, I suggest driving down Sunset to Paru’s in East Hollywood. At least there the food doesn’t taste like it was made by a guy who saw pictures of Indian food without ever having tried it.

Food was not good. The outdoor is amazing and the staff is sweet but the food needs a complete upgrade. Not being mean but if this could help their establishment somehow make a comeback then I won’t hesitate to mention it.

I wish I could give zero stars. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had. Service was absolutely terrible, took 15 minutes before some one came with menus and they never refilled water. the waiter started off by telling us he was an alien from another galaxy and then tried to keep converting us to his religion. The food was wrong and then when it was corrected came out cold. They charged an automatic gratuity of 20% and didn’t notify us. Then when given two cards to split the bill they put it all on one card and wouldn’t void or correct it. Stay away from this place!!!

Yeaahhhh. I’m gonna have to add to the bad press. Came on a Mon night because other restaurants in the area we would have gone to first had long lines. This place was almost empty, we should have taken a hint upon entering. The ambiance IS delightful — fire pit tables, twinkly lights, and palm trees add up to what should be a nice dining experience. And the service was nice, although a bit slow for an almost empty restaurant. This is normally fine and dandy as I’m usually not in a huge rush, but with the automatic 20% tip added on, it felt a bit crummy, and I’m usually someone who tips 20% anyways. Ok the food. It wasn’t inedible, the sauces were pretty decent, even if the tikka masala and the korma almost tasted IDENTICAL. But the chicken and the lamb were not very tender and definitely nothing to write home about. But here’s what really bummed me out — the exorbitant prices! I saw someone else posted a menu from sometime in 2015… don’t be fooled, it has changed significantly since then. The menu we received had about a third of the items, and they all rose in price $ 5 – 7. We spent over $ 20 on a lamb korma entrée, which literally had maybe 6 pieces of lamb in it. It didn’t come with rice or naan, so we ordered a side of basmati rice… which was overcooked. The tikka masala fries appetizer(French fries topped with masala sauce and a little parmesean) was $ 10. And the daal entrée was $ 12, starchy, and somewhat balnd. Long story short, it feels like you’re being totally ripped off with these prices, I don’t care how twinkly your light are! Skip this place and go spend your hard earned money somewhere else.

I’ve never reviewed a place before but this called for it. We decided to try some fusion food as a family. We should have listened to the reviews. Pros –ambience — lamb and masala fries Cons — Most items ordered that were on the menu were not available. — Mixed our food order with another table. — Cancelled our dessert order for which we were waiting. It was cancelled without providing alternatives and the check was brought out at the same time. As we were getting up, another party showed up so we were being pushed out by cancelling our dessert so that the other party maybe seated. We weren’t loitering or anything, just waiting for our dessert. — Gratuity was added at 20%. The frustrating part is that, I would like to decide what the service warrants as far as gratuity and not be forced to pay for something that doesn’t warrant the amount. Overall, fries and lamb dishes are good but the rest was average at best. Ambience on the patio was nice but not nice enough to make up for other deficiencies.

I know this place has some mixed reviews but I’m a daredevil so we decided to go for it. It’s probably a 3.5 but that’s not an option so I’ll round up. The place had just opened so it was not busy yet and our service was great. The vegetable samosa was very tasty with a cilantro and sweet dipping sauce. My chicken taco was packed with flavor and on the borderline of almost too spicy. My lady had the smoked salmon omelette off the brunch menu and she loved it. Oh yeah, Ginger beer deelish… Really cool outdoor patio décor, I would like to try it at night.

Debated on whether to come here based on the reviews but decided to live dangerously and give it a try. Walked by on a few occasions and I love the outdoor seating and bali/thai ambiance. Came in right at noon and was glad to see the brunch menu… it seemed safer/tamer than the mexican — indian fusion items on their regular menu. Ordered a smoked salmon omelet served with a hash brown creation and vegetarian somasa. The samosa was somewhat spicy but cooked crispy which I like and served with a sweet sauce that was super yummy. My omelet was delicious and came with amazing squaw bread I wasn’t expecting. The hash browns were made from the same potato mixture that’s inside the samosa. Everything was very fresh and the wait staff were extremely friendy and helpful. Since 3.5 stars isn’t an option, I rounded up and give it a 4.

Pass. It’s way too expensive for what it is. I got a cup of tea and it was … $ 6… Entrees are $ 12 — $ 14 but why??? This is all before the 20% tip automatically added to the bill. If you want Indian Mexican fusion go to 23rd st café for huge portions and affordable price. The beer garden courtyard area is really pretty and nice so it’s good for ambiance but otherwise nothing really going for it

Interesting fusion here. Some buddies of mine turned me on to this place when they suggested we meet up here for a bite. It was before I lived in the area so it was quite the haul getting here from the South Bay but I’m always up for an adventure especially in this area of town. They mix Indian and Mexican cuisine and you wouldn’t think it works but it actually does. They have somewhat of an open court yard with seating and at night, there are strings of light bulbs creating a starry like effect. It can be a little dark in some parts of the place though so good if you’re trying to eat incognito. The menu has some interesting items as you can imagine and I ended up getting the plate that really stood out and had everything I liked from both cuisines. The Lamb Tika Burrito. Yup, lamb stuffed wrapped by a tortilla. The flavors was interesting, I loved the lamb, pretty tender and seasoned well. I also had a beer, forgot which one but it went well with the meal. I’d like to try some of the other items on the menu sometime and since I’ve moved a lot closer, I’m sure there will be an opportunity in the very near future.

We had a reservation for 11:30 for 40. The host had been here before and raved about it. I got here at 11:30 as did others and got ice water in a mason jar. It’s now 12:50 and a few people have been served. One couple got their food and finished already. No one is happy. Can’t wait to be served because I’m among many starving. We ordered naan and when I asked about that(at least) was told they’re doing the best they can. The owner is in the kitchen helping the one chef. Our sweet waitress is equally frustrated. I’d read the reviews from other Unilocalers. I would have left without waiting but I felt sorry for our host who did his best to organize this fiasco. Maybe the food will be good, my friend says. Others have been served and finished. It’s 1pm. Others are waiting. No one is happy. Prices are high and they add a 20% tip the the bill AFTER taxes. Coffee is $ 4. They add a 20% tip to everything so a cup of coffee is $ 4.80. Still waiting for our food. Food arrived at 1:10. Ordered Fish Tacos and Masala Falafel. Arrived hot and delicious. Unusual and fine. Cute patio. Sweet waitresses. Some never got their food and the restaurant kindly took whatever never came off the bill. Unacceptable.

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. I came here with my friend(who is full Indian and whose family still lives in India) and everything that we ordered was terrible. It took forever to get to come out to the table and we left hungry because our meals were so gross that we couldn’t eat them. There was no one else there when we went and it was a Friday night. We should’ve taken that as a sign and left. The two stars is for the cute ambiance.

This review is based upon my first and definitely last visit to Cowboys and Turbans. Service/Atmosphere– As we enter the restaurant, the bar was dark and empty, not a single light on. Took 15 min to get just our water. Although I feel like the owner is to blame for this as there was only a single waitress servicing the bar and outdoor patio area. The patio itself was really nice though with the decorations/table etc. Food– We came expecting Indian and Mexican food fused together. What we got a was a $ 19 «Jumbo» burrito which was nothing more than rice, lamb and a small side of masala sauce. The burrito itself was a small in portion. Masala fries were just fries with the Same masala sauce as mentioned earlier. Message to the owner– adding masala sauce to a burrito doesn’t make it Indian. All in all, ridiculously overpriced, bland food. I dislike calling it Mexican or Indian food as it is a disgrace to either one. I do not like to bash restaurants, especially small owner operated ones but this one was a slap in the face.

I agree with a lot of the reviewers on here when saying that this place is not worth the trip. Firstly, they don’t even have a sign on the front of the restaurant that says their name. There some janky banner that says Mexican food or something — which is a pile of HS because there are no real Mexican items on the menu. There are«burritos,» but there aren’t any actual Indian/Mexican fusion items. The outdoor patio area is cool. We didn’t have any heat lamps though. The restroom was out of soap. Nothing major, BUT they had used water to try and salvage any remaining soap, so I could tell it had been a whike since it had been replaced. This place needs to clean itself up a bit. Every little detail makes a difference in someone’s experience. The food was nothing special. Just spicy. I didn’t remember to take pictures. Highly unlikely I’ll be back. I drove all the way from Redondo Beach.(Hour and half drive).

GREATAMBIANCE, HORRIBLEFOOD! I don’t review this place lightly but this is by far some of the worst service I’ve experienced in a looooooonnggg time. On the bright side though, the ambiance of this place is phenomenal! Amazingly lit, moody, romantic, and on the Monday night I went, they had some really cool artists playing live music. So having just stumbled into this place, I was really looking forward to the food. +1 star for Ambiance We started with a whole medley of starters including the Masala Fries which were severely disappointing, I have to agree with a couple other reviews in noting how similar it is to friends with a side of tomato soup. Meh. The Garlic Cheese Naan was outstanding! Served hot out the oven, it cheesy, garlicky, and properly seasoned. +1 star for the Cheese Garlic Naan Then, well, things just went bad. I ordered their fusion Indian Burrito, upon the server’s recommendation and it was horrible. I took 2 bites and hated it. What a horrible concoction of flavors! Plus they threw in a bunch of whole pepper corns that just made it worse. If it turned out the lamb was rotten, I would believe you, that’s how bad it was. Despite a seemingly desolate restaurant, the service here was surprisingly very slow. When she finally came around, I told her I didn’t like it, and she didn’t offer me anything else nor seem concerned at all. I kindly asked her to take it away and she didn’t. I wasn’t offered a menu so I could choose something else, I was just shocked and had completely lost my appetite. She came around again and I asked here again to take it away and she said she would. It wasn’t until the end of the meal, when asked her again in a more rude tone, did she finally remove it from the table. I was expecting her to remove it from the bill but she didn’t. I didn’t want to make a scene and was so pissed and over it I left and will never, ever, ever go back. Serving tables isn’t that hard, trust me, I did it all through college. Some people are just horrible at their jobs-server, owner, chef. Check, check, check. FAIL.

Very charming restaurant on Sunset Boulevard. They sat our group of 8 at a very large table, and although the people on the other side of the table felt very far away, we were able to hear each other and have conversations. The food was delicious, but I was surprised that my chicken tikka masala was only sauce and chicken. After receiving the chicken, I ordered a small bowl of rice($ 4) and then the combination was very delicious. I am very unfamiliar with this menu, but it felt like I ordered a hamburger and it came without a bun. How do you eat a hamburger without a bun? So I order a bun and now my meal costs 25% more. Oh, and another thing that we’ll probably see more of in Los Angeles. There is now an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill. Good service, bad service… they get 20%. Our server was fine, but now that what once motivated servers to be great is a given… I smell trouble.

Came here last night with my brother who was visiting from Japan and a few others. We’d heard about the incredible patio and the interesting ethnic food mashup(Indian meets Mexican) so we made a point to try it out. What I ordered: 1. Masala Fries = Pretty damn good. Could have used twice as many fries for the price though. 2. Garlic Naan = YUM. More crunchy than doughy, but delicious nonetheless. 3. Chicken Tikka Masala Burrito(Wet) = Delicious, unique, flavorful, and super filling. Having the other half for lunch today! Highlights: — The ambiance. The patio is truly stunning… unlike anything I’ve seen in L.A. Like something out of Istanbul, Dubai or Marrakesh. Very moorish. It’s huge and from what I can tell from the other reviews, it’s never packed. Always space for a big party without a reservation. — The food. Incredibly delicious food and I really enjoyed the mashup, although I think Indian is the more dominant of the two on the menu. — Beautiful acoustic music on monday nights! Drawbacks: — The price. Holy shit it was pricey. The bill came and I was literally like«whoa!» Keep track of those sides and glasses of wine/beer. They add up quick. — The service. Our waiter wasn’t what I’d call attentive. Granted we were waiting for some other people in our party to arrive, so perhaps he was just giving us space. Still, we waited quite a while for the bill. Overall, I’ll be back for sure!

Dog friendly! Great food and band. We came in around 830 on Saturday. Parking was a little rough because it’s street/metered. We were seated promptly with a friendly waitress. We started off with some wine and masala fries with cheese(try it!). We each ordered chicken tikka masala and a side of garlic naan and mint chutney. The portions look small but it is dense and filling. The tikka masala was delicious and I definitely recommend it. The garlic naan came a little burned but OK. They had a live cover band come in and play Beatles, Weezer, etc. so that was fun. It’s basically all outdoor seating in a beautiful garden/picnic like area with a fire pit. We loved that dogs were welcome, that was a huge sell. Will be back again and again for this Mexican/Indian fusion.
