Slow! Slow! Slow! Slow! Slow! I understand it’s a Wednesday night, but one sushi chef to provide for whole restaurant is not cool. Slow! Slow! Slow! Uncool.

As a daughter of a sushi chef, I can be critical. But despite the name«Atun» isn’t even Japanese, they did all right on our rolls. Well, rolls aren’t even traditionally Japanese anyway, but we enjoyed the Caliente, Tap Out & Lotus. Their lunch special of one of their rolls with miso soup for 12.95 was a deal considering those rolls were close to $ 15 each. The caliente lived up to its name with the heat of green salsa, sriracha, & spicy tuna. However, the flavors seemed to all blend together, making the palate want something cooling(4 stars). The lotus roll balanced the caliente pretty well with its fresh water eel, eel sauce & mayo; the lotus chips were a nice touch too(5 stars). The tap out wasn’t really memorable & we weren’t into eating more heat(jalapeño) after the caliente!(3.5 stars) The yellow tail sashimi came in 5 thick slices that melted like butter in your mouth(5 stars). The garlic edamame was pretty good too, but I think I like the way Sushi on Fire cooks theirs better(4 stars). And the apple sake was too sweet for my liking, but creatively presented with a frozen, hollowed out apple. It gets soggy once it starts melting though(3.5 stars). The miso soup is standard. The wood work in the restaurant was nice, but there were way too many IKEA lamps hanging around. Looked a little tacky. Nonetheless, the 4 stars go to the overall food quality & service.

ATUNISTHEREASONGODPUTFISHINTHEOCEAN! Sashimi platter is out of this world! And the caliente roll(sauce on the side) is amazing if you like the spice in your life! Perfect dining experience

Sushi was heavy on the mayo, but tasty. The mayo took away some of that freshness that usually comes with good sushi. Japanese beer was good(kuyukuri stout). Yakitori was really nice. Biggest complaint was service. They didn’t check on us once despite bringing order after order out to us. At one point we had six empty dirty dishes surrounding us. We had a hard time fitting some orders near us due to empty plates and the staff still wouldn’t bus. It was moderately busy, but still.

Great sushi and price isn’t too bad. Some of the waiters seemed«off» the day we went but maybe something was going on. It pretty empty when we went too.

I love Atun. Best sushi in Bixby. They have a take on tapas which is refreshing and creative and imaginative menu options. The place is beautiful. There is a sake that comes in an actual Apple. Get anything«collar» and you’ll be good. Try their Specials. They are open a little later than most places in the area also. Big up.

Love the ambiance would come back for that. The Atun roll was my fav. Lots of seafood and good flavor. We ordered about four different rolls. The Spicy crispy was tasty also. the sauce gave it a kick.

Love this place! Beautifully decorated with nice ambiance. They changed their menu up a bit, but they are still, by far the best sushi in Bixby Knolls area. Everything I have tried is always delicious! Getting friends and coworkers hooked on Atun has been easy.

I frequent Bixby Knolls fairly often and when I saw this place open, I knew I had to come in. It took me awhile but I’m sure glad I did. The décor is refreshing with the beautifully oil-stained tables, chairs, and walls. The drink menu is extensive as is the food menu. They don’t offer an overwhelming variety of specialty rolls which is a good thing. Quality over quantity, right? I started with the Garlic Edamame which are bar none, the best Ice had. It was more like a Cajun Edamame stir fry. Simply wonderful. The flavor was complex instead of just a salty garlic mess. Oh, I love the garlic more than most but this was freshly sautéd made to order and the smell alone was mesmerizing. Next up was the Miso Ramen which was great but not amazing. The broth was hot and on point. The noodles were plentiful but they were a little light-handed with the pork. The egg was was cooked perfectly and the yolk melted like butter. I actually added the leftover Garlic Edamame sauce to the soup which I recommend everybody to do as well. The last item I ordered which arrived first was the Caliente Roll. This dish is everything the name implies, spicy hot. But it’s the freshly Mexican style salsa. The green peppers, which I assume are Serrano, are intense and the heat keeps building. Underneath the sauce is a juicy and thick cut of tuna on top of a spicy tuna roll with avocado. The freshness of the fish cannot be overlooked or understated enough. It’s what separates a mediocre sushi place and the elite establishments like atun. I enjoyed every morsel I ate here.

Came here a couple of times. Nice modern restaurant, nice service, but this place is too pricey. They took off items off their happy hour menu, very limited options. Not quite the happy hour. They put a 3 specialty rolls for $ 33 bucks … Might as well order 3 separate rolls for he same price. Seems like they try to mask the pricing by making it seem like you get a deal, but its really not much of a difference.

One stop sushi restaurant!!! I love it here because I can bring my grandma for yakitori and the teriyaki bento box, me and my boyfriend always enjoy their fresh fish while my lil brother has their yummy tempura Ice cream. Tips: try miso black cod or yakitori sampler as app, Bluefin and Toro for main course, followed by summer rolls or tap out then wrap up with fried ice cream

Went in during First Friday’s and it was packed(as expected). When they took down a name for our table they also offered to take our number so we could enjoy First Friday’s while we waited for a table, which i thought was pretty neat. The food was absolutely delicious! I ordered ramen & the lotus roll which was beautiful! My friend and I shared the Poki salad. Wow. The tuna practically melted in your mouth and the Poki sauce was amazing. I only had 2 minor problems: 1) the food was coming out a little on the slow side(i understand they were busy but our waitress wasn’t even really checking up on us) and 2) when it came time to pay our bill it’s almost as if she didn’t want our money! The bill was dropped off but she never came back to pick it up. We ended up handing it to another waitress instead. I’ll definitely be going back though, just not when they’re so busy.

I am rather disappointed with my experience at Atun today. We came in for happy hour, which is all day on Sunday. There is not an extensive list– I believe there were only four rolls on the happy hour menu, a few appetizer items, and some yakitori. We ordered two quail eggs off the yakitori menu, monkey brain, heart attack, the caliente roll, and the crunchy albacore roll. Our waitress comes out and says there are no more quail eggs and asked if we wanted anything else. Nothing else seemed appetizing(onions and cherry tomatoes? no thanks). We get the heart attack first, jalapeño filled with cream cheese and spicy tuna. It was just alright. Next comes the monkey brains, which are mushrooms topped with spicy tuna and then fried with tempura batter. This dish was EH. The most disappointing part of our dinner were the rolls. The caliente roll stated that the homemade jalapeño sauce comes on the side, but my roll was DRENCHED in that sauce. My mouth was on fire and it ruined my entire meal. We had asked for avocado on the side because my bf is allergic, but it did not come on the side. Uh, wtf people. Good thing I looked before he popped it right in his mouth. Careless waitress did not tell the chef. We forced ourselves to finish the rolls, but left the majority of the caliente roll. It just wasn’t appetizing and my bf couldn’t wait to leave the place. Ambiance looks nice, but no music playing gives awkward vibe, especially when no one else was there. We wanted to give Atun a try since we always frequent the same sushi restaurants, but we will be sticking to our regular spot which has a much more extensive HH menu and MUCH better customer service.

We were looking for ramen in this area, this place showed up in Unilocal search, turned out they didn’t have ramen, but it was all day happy hour Sunday, so it was still all good! Very cute little restaurant, we chose to sit at the sushi bar, the happy hour menu was actually pretty good, started with a large Asahi, ordered a few happy hour items and a few regular menu item. Happy hour items: spicy garlic edamame, poki seaweed salad, money brain roll, heart attack roll, crunch roll They were all very tasty and fresh, especially edamame and poki salad, rolls were delicious too but I am usually not a big fan of rolls, hubby liked them a lot. Regular items: Spanish mackerel sashimi, yakitori asparagus, yakitori lamb basil and bacon wrapped scallops, salmon roe sushi. Beautiful presentation of Spanish mackerel, the other half of the mackerel fish was fried, very crunchy and not oily at all, so good. Hubby loved yakiroti lamb and scallops, very flavorful and tender. Had another large Sapporo and finished our meal with tempera red bean ice cream. The sushi chef was surprised that we ordered so much food for just the two of us, yeah that’s just how we eat! I liked the food, pretty much everything was delicious, service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was just so relaxing and chill on a Sunday afternoon, We really enjoyed it so much, would love to come back for more! Ps. Lots of street parkings nearby.

Second time. Scallops. Too small. Too bland. Not enough mango. Disappointed. Ceviche roll. Good. Wish there was more. Nice jalapeño kick. The surf and turf roll. Red meat is a nice change. This was a good balance too. All in all I liked it but it was too expensive. Felt like the price wasn’t quite accurate.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Thursday night just to try out a new sushi spot. Upon entering, the staff wasn’t super welcoming(only one person said hi and it was mumbled), which is not typical for a sushi restaurant. But I guess this isn’t a typical sushi restaurant. We got the salmon sashimi, monkey brain, Bixby roll, and the lotus roll. The salmon sashimi was good quality and seemed fresh, but they drowned it in lemon before serving. Plus they added more lemon slices on the side. We could barely taste the fish! Monkey brain was tasty, tempura mushroom with tuna inside + spicy mayo and eel sauce. Definitely not what you expect in a sushi appetizer, but pretty good. Bixby roll had seared tuna I believe, imitation crab, and asparagus, all deep-fried. Man this roll is HUGE, could barely keep it together! But tasty. My favorite was the lotus roll, which was a smaller roll with eel and avocado inside(small amounts) wrapped in soy and seaweed, all covered in a ton of spicy imitation crab and a fried lotus chip on top. This was a very creative and beautiful roll, I just wish there was more eel and avocado in the roll and a little less spicy imitation crab, it was a bit overpowering. Overall the experience was fine, the food was inventive and creative. The décor was a nice touch and the servers friendly! Minus one star for the not so friendly welcome and the lemony salmon sashimi. Oh! And the late night happy hour starts at 8:30pm, not 8 like some other reviews say. ;)

Just like any other one/two star review, I will start off by saying how great the ambience and décor the restaurant has. Walls are cool, Ikea lights are cool, the lil soy sauce container is cool, coolcoolcool. Came here on a Friday night around 8 and walked inside the door and stood awkwardly for a good moment until one of the sushi chefs told a waitress that we were standing there. Thanks sushi chef. Mackenzie was our server and she was very kind and friendly. So we order the beef teriyaki plate(can’t go wrong with that), the Atun Dynamite roll, the Atlantic roll, and a chashu bowl. And funny thing is, it’s in the order of good to bleh. Break it down Elwood: Beef teriyaki plate($ 9) — served on a narrow plate with about 6 – 7 thin slices of beef drizzled with a light teriyaki sauce. Plating was nice, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds on the beef and rice. The meat: rice ratio was very off, 6 – 7 slices of beef and a fat ass cup of rice? I felt like I paid $ 6 for rice and $ 3 for beef. I am a teriyaki fiend and the beef they served was pretty good and charred. Just the portion size was not good at all. Atun Dynamite roll($ 13ish) — probably the most appealing roll on the menu. Featured a California roll with scallops, shrimp, and lobster piled on top covered in dynamite sauce and other sauce. Sorta like a cake. Except when you eat a cake, the cake and frosting are supposed to blend together. This roll did not blend in so well, the sauces overpowered the actual sushi, I felt like I was eating something heavy at the OC Fair. Atlantic Roll($ 13ish) — the first item that arrived to our table. It’s a light roll, shrimp tempura and stuff with stuff drizzled on top and eel sauce. The whole time eating it I felt that it was missing something, maybe like flavor or whatever. I did not enjoy it. Chashu bowl($ 4.95) — it was on the specials menu so we decided to give it a try. I’ve had a chashu bowl before at other restaurants since I work in Little Tokyo, but bruh I did not order a $ 4.95 bowl of salt and weird flavoring. The flavor is very sweet, then it gets salty. I don’t understand. I suppose the egg is there to level it out, but it was not appetizing. The portion size was a very small bowl, used to serve miso soup. Kinda breaks my heart a lil bit. Overall the food was mediocre and did not live to expectations. Worst part about eating mediocre food is having to pay the bill and knowing you spent money on below par fish and rice and salt. Now I haven’t been to many sushi places and it isn’t in my top food list, but I know what good sushi is supposed to taste like.

Been here twice. Each time — a different experience. One really good. The other, so-so. So, after to visits, Atun Sushi is Ok, to me. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating. It’s an open dining area with a modern and clean décor. On my most recent visit, service was lacking and for some reason, the chefs weren’t sending out the dishes in a timely manner. There must have been something wrong because I was there after the lunch rush, with a coworker and there was only four parties in the entire restaurant. Didn’t really let it bother me because my colleague and I just chatted away. However, it was a little annoying waiting for refills of my hot green tea and water — once we really started eating. Not sure if she was new or what she was doing behind the counter, however, with four parties in the restaurant, service should have been attentive at the least. As for the food — it’s a solid OK to me. For my taste, I wouldn’t order Ramen from here again. The Ramen’s broth just seemed weak. The server did bring out some pepper that added spice, which helped, however, without it, it just lacked the flavor kick that come to expect whenever I have Ramen. As for the Sushi, fish was decent and the cuts were a nice size. Parking on Atlantic can be a hit or miss. Each time, probably because I showed up after the lunch rush — parking wasn’t an issue. This last time, I parked right in front. I can’t and won’t speak for parking in the evening or on the weekends.

We were wandering around the neighborhood looking for somewhere to eat with our toddler and noticed a few families with children in Atun. I’m a big sushi fan so we decided to try it — a great little list of lunch specials and a mellow ambience equals a perfect lunch time with my little family! My husband tried the Agedashi lunch special which came with Agedashi tofu, tempura veggies, miso soup, rice, and salad.(a ton of food for the $ 9 if you ask me!) The tempura battering on the tofu and the veggies was spot on. I had the 5 piece sushi combo with four pieces of spicy tuna, salad, and miso soup for $ 9. The fish was surprisingly fresh! Tuna, Salmon, Albacore, Yellowtail, and Shrimp nigiri alongside a half roll. My favorite were the yellowtail and salmon. They have other lunch combos in the $ 9/$ 12/$ 13 category including a sashimi salad that sounded great. Perhaps I’ll go back and try it sometime… I am compelled to go back. The service was good and street parking was easy on a holiday afternoon. I’m looking at the takeout menu now and everything is reasonably priced. They also have a Yakitori menu — the veggies and seafood are definitely on my to-try list.

You would give a place 5 stars too if they gave you free sake, a lot of free sake. I am sweet as a peach but when I drink I curse like a sailor. I was cursing a storm that night(too much free alcohol). Don’t get too excited, they don’t do this all the time. We just happened to go on the 1 year anniversary, lucky us! The service was amazing! Everyone was so nice! The food was so good. We ordered 1) One Love roll 2) Crunchy Albacore roll 3) Monkey Brains 4) Poki Salad 5) Tempura Red Bean Ice Cream and of course 6) Sapporo Beer. Everything was sooooo good and the prices are reasonable. This is a cool, trendy, addition to the area. Will definitely return!
