John and his son Nick are super nice guys. Work was completed quickly and for a fair price. John also hires/​recommends quality subs and makes sure the customer is happy with the sub’s work too (we had him install windows and a patio door and then had a sub stucco the front of our house. The sub accidentally pierced our kitchen plumbing when prepping the house and John fixed the plumbing and inside holes and the sub fixed the outside.). They seem to be busy all the time which is a good sign. They also got along with my pets, which is important to me.

I called John Elmore to give me a quote on installing a new front window. He called back and said he would charge me $ 100 to come look at it, and that the $ 100 would not be applied toward the work if I hired him. I do not know if this was because I was in the 760 area code, but it is the first time a contractor has ever charged so much for a bid and was not willing to apply the initial inspection fee toward the work. I passed, but ironically I was planning to hire him if the bid was at all reasonable because of the positive reviews on Unilocal.I give him one star only because he did return my call. Obviously I cannot vouch for his work since he never came out, but if you live in North San Diego County, you may not want to call this contractor.

Recently, John Elmore and his son, Nick, framed and installed new doors throughout the interior of my house. They did a beautiful job, were always on time, left the areas where they’d worked clean at the end of the day, and were quiet and low-​key, with no loud, annoying music. The estimate was clear, easy to read, and fairly priced. They couldn’t have been more professional, and I feel that they are honest and trustworthy, two of the most important qualities a person could have when you allow them into your home. One of the door installations was quite tricky, but John not only knew exactly what to do, he did it perfectly, and it looks amazing! I am planning to hire the Elmores for other work inside my home this summer, and have no doubt that I will be happy with the outcome.
