Do not go unless you want crappy food, bad service, dirty establishment(cockroaches), and be surrounded by super loud/obnoxious people. Only redeeming quality is that it’s close to the Path. Not coming back.

Meh. Just meh. We went there today for brunch because they have a $ 10 unlimited bloody mary/mimosa/screwdriver add on. I got the short rib hash omelet and my husband got a bacon, egg, and cheese burger. We both had home fries with our meal, and they were cooked completely differently. My potatoes were soft and mushy, not fried at all. His potatoes were fried and crunchy. They make their drinks very weak; we had several drinks between us and left without any buzz. The short rib was under-seasoned and I had to add a lot of salt and pepper to both that, my home fries, and my bloody mary. Also, I saw the bartender making the bloody mary mix and they use canned tomato juice, soy sauce, and horseradish. Never in my life have I had a bloody mary with soy sauce — if you’re going to do that then at least make it Japanese themed — add wasabi and ginger while you’re at it. The décor was nice, felt very European.

I love this place despite my 2 star review. Their food is spectacular and the bartenders are awesome. Haven’t had a bad experience here except today when a man who appeared to be the owner was publicly berating his staff and cleaning out the bottom of the bar area throwing curses left and right. While there may be changes that need to be made in terms of management, you shouldn’t let that leak into your customers experience or even have that happen within earshot of their dining area. Whoever this man is, he needs a massive attitude check and maybe shouldn’t be an owner of an establishment if he can’t keep it professional.

Located in the beautiful downtown Jersey City area, I liked that this is on of their 5 restaurants that are all attached and each offering different specials. We chose the underground. Sat at the bar for about 10 minutes and not offered a drink, a menu nothing. Finally bartender Ashley approached us and gave us menus and I complained about the wait. She apologized and was very attentive after that. Had the white sangria which was out of this world!!! Also had the ravioli and the meatballs. I was surprised at the size of the appetizers they were pretty big in addition to that since it was happy hour the apps were ½ off. I would come back and definitely recommend this place.

If I could give zero stars I would… We saw a roach… And after we ate, we saw ANOTHER!!! The margaritas were gross and the food was mediocre; Def not a place I recommend.

I like this bar a lot. Located right off the Grove St PATH, very convenient if you get off work and commute here. Very decent prices beers/drinks. My favorite aspect is between 4 and 10 pm they have a different drink special every hour EVERYDAY ! For example 4 pm to 5 pm is $ 1PBR, between 8 pm and 9 pm is $ 1 shots(I usually order tequila and they serve Espoloń, very fond of that). Lots of TV’s always playing all sorts of sports all the time. Will continue to go here and often.

This bar is a blight to the neighborhood. As a resident of downtown Jersey City, I’ve listened to(tried to avoid listening to) the nightly revelry that goes on from this corner bar every weekend night and some weeknights. At the corner or Grove Street & Newark, this bar has, since its opening, delivered consistently loud, raucous noise emanating through the night and is a disturbance to area residents. Until tonight, I resisted filing noise complaints, but the yelling & drunken partying goes on into the wee hours of the morning and is an extreme disturbance, keeping our household awake until 2 or 3, sometimes even 4 am.(It is after 2:30 am as I write this, and there is a blaring car horn and loads of screaming male voices.) Unless the owners & managers of this bar start showing consideration for the increasing numbers of area residents moving into downtown buildings, joining those who have lived here long before this establishment brought the frat-boy spirit of Hoboken to the otherwise superlative neighborhood of downtown Jersey City, there will be noise complaints filed regularly now. I have visited this bar as a patron once during a lunch hour. Based on that visit, I can vouch for the fact that it is not nearly worth the diminished value it has brought to the area. Fortunately, its sister business next door — The Bistro — does not exhibit the same unpleasant crap and is actually a worthwhile place for a meal or a cocktail. If only they’d left it there. Downtown JC does not need a loud watering hole for drunkards and partiers. If LITM, Barcade, Dullboy, and other nearby bars can exist without noise disturbances, so should Grove Square or The Coffee Shop, or whatever it’s called, be able to. On top of that, it draws excessive noise from car horns, revving motorcycle engines, and all manner of accompanying noise. Please stop.

You could go to this place. But, you shouldn’t. The location is awesome: right between a drug store and a suburban bus stop. The view is great: bitter commuters riding home from their joyous journey on the PATH. The prices are great and the portions tend to be good. While I haven’t gotten sick on their food, I am perhaps one on the unlucky ones. I return, with new friends, to discover the gastronomic achievements that often deliver a gastrointestinal episode. I have trained my system and my defense mechanisms are up to par, but sadly many of my friends have abandoned hope that they ever eat digestible food that agrees with their system. There is service and there are drinks. The water is potable. The beers are less so. Tipping is not only encouraged, but is a precondition to successfully leave this well-run and professionally managed establishment.

A group of about 7 of us went to this bar to start the night(around maybe like 10?) and when we got there the man at the front door kept asking if we wanted a table. We all agreed we’d only stay for a drink or 2 so a table wasn’t necessary and didn’t want to take it away from people who may actually pay more. Surprisingly he mentioned that we would probably get served quicker if we got a table. We still declined and then waited for 25 minutes at the bar for the bartender to even look at us. Granted– it was a Saturday night, but compared to the other bars in the area, this place wasn’t that crowded. We stayed for one beer and left. The Atmosphere was little cold and off-putting.

Great service and decent food. Stop by here if you are in a rush. We got in, ordered, ate and got out in 40min.

I recently visited Jersey City and stumbled upon Grove Square Bistro. I absolutely love this place. The staff is super nice and Jeff the owner was so welcoming. There’s a nice outdoor area and the inside is super cozy. They do different sangrias every day and their happy hour(lots of specials on food and drinks) is great too. Mozzarella and tomato was delicious and happy hour pricing. Highly recommend.

Nice place, but the owner was very rude and disrespectful. I will NEVER go back there. :)

The location is great, service was good, but sadly the food is just mediocre. We sat outside on the patio for brunch on Saturday morning watching the JC hipsters coming in and out of the path station which was fun. The inside looked a lot like the Smith in NYC which was also cool. The food was just ok. I got the breakfast burrito and it was something I could have probably made better at home. The potatoes were gross and I am a sucker for potatoes — any type if they are good. I didn’t eat them so you know they weren’t good. The multigrain bread that came with the omelets that my friends ordered was the best part of the meal! It was deliciously toasted and they give you a big hearty slice. Yum. The coffee was also good but the omelets were only ok. The side of bacon was also good. Overall it wasn’t great.

Nice outdoor seating area with a great location. Although we only tried the oysters they were the cleanest, most well shucked I have had here in the jc. Will be returning soon to try the whole menu. One critique: no cocktail menu.

Kind of like the saying, «You never know who your real friends are until the chips are down,» You never know a classy operation until something goes wrong. Came for dinner for the first time tonight and the steak, although good, was a bit overcooked. Within minutes, the manager had them remake it then came over and handed us a $ 30 gift card towards our next visit — plus a free glass of wine, — plus two desserts on the house. Doesn’t get better in the service area than that. The rigatoni w/eggplant was very good, although, I’d make it a bit spicier and switch the eggplant for Italian sausage, but that’s just me. Great french fries and side salad as well. Let’s face it, bistros in the Hoboken/JC area are a dime a dozen. Most places have decent food/drink, so how do you separate yourselves from the herd? Two words — Customer service. These guys and their staff are the best in town. Great experience. Highly recommended.

I think the only thing this place has going is there location. I’ve been here a few times and the service was not the greatest and some of the staff behind the bar were not really friendly. The food is nothing to brag about. My suggestion, come here for a drink or two and decide what your next stop will be

Tried Grove because my go-to sandwich shop across the street is closed for the holidays. My first time eating breakfast at Grove will also be the last. Soggy sandwiches, surly staff. The only person who smiled was the cook.

I think the pizza offering is a new addition here. It is attached to the café on the corner and the larger restaurant next door. $ 2.50 for a pizza with 3 different fresh peppers on top. The crust was perfect. It is definitely the best pizza in the area, with a fresh taste to it. The best I’ve had was in Hoboken, but this is definitely the best in the Grove Street area.

Drinks are reasonable. Crowd wasn’t terrible. Mixed bag. Saturday night has a decent DJ. But… There was random garbage on the TV. I asked the manager/owner if it were possible to put Sportscenter on. So if I were going to glance up, I’d actually see something that most people are interested in especially at this hour. After spending a lil shy of $ 80 in 10 minutes, he said«No way.» Why? Are ridiculous cartoons(that are awful) better and more important than the World Series? At a bar? At 1:30am? Doubtful. Leaving now and won’t be back. Coulda just changed the channel. I can’t imagine in this economy, how a business owner and/or manager would do something to jeopardize making $. Stupid.
