If I had a permanent post at the bar, dedicated to my butt, where my butt could hang beside other, familiar butts as the mouths attached to the bodies attached to the butts conversed about terrible politics, drank coldish beer and ate all the fried things, I’d probably love this place. Until then, it’s just A-OK. Unchanged for decades, Squires is likely the origin of many a South Shore denizens’ memories during their early 20s. Or lack of memories, as it seems like a «‘nother pitcher, shank you very much» type of joint. And if you’re a faithful follower, you’d know that kind of establishment is my personal Valhalla. Only I wasn’t here to waste away, I was here on a dinner date with the wife. Our first away from the baby. Parenthood changes your perspective, even on dives. Chicken finger basket hit the spot, and the fried pickles(spears, not chips) had a thick, crunchy coating, but all the dips were missing. Our server went missing, meaning once my Bass went missing(down my throat), it was a long time before a second replaced it. This wasn’t impatience; it was absenteeism. A return trip is inevitable, maybe when the guys come visit. We can be vulgar around the bar, and shit talk each other’s home teams, and keep the tab open. In the meantime, Squires is just an alright pub.

Squires is now the closest bar to our house and gets the honor of being where the boy and I had our first official post-baby date night. Because… we classy. Beer? Check. Extensive offering of fried foods? Check. Locals galore? Checkity check check. The service was ultra friendly, the food was decent and our drinks were cold. While I don’t necessarily see it becoming a go to spot I’ll happily be back for cheese sticks and a Corona sometime.

Great local pub. Exactly what you’d expect. Warm service, cold drinks, and comfort food. Everyone seems happy to be there.

A group of friends decided on having dinner here one day due to another mutual friend’s recommendation and it was a central location among the group. When you drive up to Squires — you can tell it’s a place that would have regulars and where the locals would hang out. Two of us walked in and you see a divey bar with carpet and chairs that do not match — which to me quite frankly is charming. When we were walking to a table(seat yourself) I had a good feeling about this place… unfortunately that wasn’t the case when I sat down at the slightly sticky table. The rest of our group showed up and it took about ten minutes for a waitress to come over with menus. Another ten minutes before she came and took our drink order(a total of 20minutes later)…finally approximately 20minutes later after that for a couple of sodas and waters to arrive. As a former waitress(both at a family restaurant and a chain) — it is unacceptable for the customers to get their drinks 40minutes after they sat at the table. Drinks on its own… not even the food! The food came probably 20minutes after we got the drinks. The food itself was decent. It wasn’t bad, nor was it anything to be excited about. It’s your typical bar food. I ordered the Fish and Chips. The fish was seasoned well and the fries were your typical fries. A couple friends ordered the burger and you can’t really mess up a burger. The temperature of the food wasn’t great — my fish was still a bit crispy but the fries were just at room temperature… not even warm. Going back to the beginning of my review — I’m sure the locals love it and they have their regulars that they always see will always return. Unless our friend who recommended this restaurant comes with us next time… or just go for one beer — we probably won’t be returning.

The food was very good. The staff were friendly. The restaurant itself looks clean and enjoyable to be in. Lunch special prices for excellent, $ 7.95 for a good size lunch. Some of the lunches specials also come with a salad. I got the mac and cheese, it had no salad but the mac and cheese was delicious and completely filled me up! My friend got the shepherds pie. It came with a salad and she liked it a lot. It was our first time there, and we told the waitress. She gave us a punch card whereby we could visit five times to get the card punched, and then get $ 7.95 off your next meal. Great deal! Overall food good, atmosphere good. Will visit again.

All I have to say is fresh food, amazing device by Adam, Alex and Kathy plus old school décor. I started coming here a few years ago and I have to say it feels like home. I am pretty critical with food but the heart healthy chicken and Jeanne’s salad are amazing. The nachos are made in house too! Def a must try place.

This was our first time at Squires. We chose to come for Friday night dinner so it was packed. The staff were super friendly. I only knocked them a star because their bathroom was pretty gross even for our 9 year old. The food was very reasonably priced. My wife got the basket of wings and rings. The waitress was courteous enough to warn us that it came with blackened chicken which wasn’t mentioned on the menus so we ordered it with plain wings and they were awesome. I had a salad and it was a salad. I had the red sangria for almost 7 bucks it was like cool aid and it gets very loud with all the tables conversation but you can’t hold that against them. We will definitely be back.

This place is a local spot that while some may consider a whole in the wall, I consider a hidden gem. To drive by it you may not think much of this place but if you are looking for a good meal and great service you won’t find a place more consistent. The atmosphere does leave something to be desired, it could use renovations, but yet I keep going back and often so it’s not enough of a reason to take away a star. I’ve literally never had a bad meal here and I’ve been coming here since I was a kid so I can easily say over 100 times. I have never had a better rueben so this is my usual, I mean seriously it’s delicious. Hands down the best rueben ever! But with this said, I’ve tried a lot on the menu from steak tips to the scrod and everything is top notch flavor and the bartenders know how to make a Cosmo. Although, I’m sure a lot of people would be more likely to get a Guinness here since it is an Irish pub after all. I definitely enjoy upscale dining so this place is a departure from that but it has a certain kind of charm. I would definitely recommend this place for casual dining.

Wanted to go somewhere for my birthday and of course did my usual Unilocal search for a restaurant. Saw this place was in Hanover, which is close to us and had decent reviews, I expected a decent looking place. Walked in and saw typical dive bar. Okay, I’ll deal with that. I was starving at this point and had to hope that my 5 week old would stay quiet. We waited forever for our server, then we ordered drinks that took forever. Our food was quick, but my husband asked for bbq sauce that took forever to get to us. Food was okay, nothing to get excited for. I will not be going back

I wish I hadn’t waited so long to try this place! I had the personal pizza and my husband had the burger — both were great. There were friendly people sitting around the bar, the service was fantastic and they serve solid comfort food. What more can you ask for? This will be a go-to spot for us for sure.

Let me tell you that they have best Reuben sandwich around. I discover this place through a friend a couple years ago and I am hooked. I do agree with some folks, the place really need a good Lift up and new decors. It does remind you like you are dining out from early 1800. The staff and the owner are very nice people, however on a busy day expect some delays and if you are hungry, you get a little frustrated. To be honest there is no excuse for it, may be the owner would think of hiring more staff especially over the weekend. If you love corned beef and Reuben, don’t hesitate to visit this place and enjoy the best Reuben around.

Long John Silver’s in sheep’s clothing! My girlfriend, her daughter and I stopped in late one evening. I ordered the«Catch of the Day», which was hauled in by the Gorton’s Fisherman a few months ago. This was a fried basket of scallops, shrimp and haddock that had been sitting in a freezer. My girlfriend order from the healthy menu, and landed on the shrimp and scallop sauté. This was an interesting dish: the afore mentioned shellfish sautéed in oil, a few herbs, and an entire heirloom tomato, poured over white rice. It looked disgusting, but was actually decent enough to eat. The kiddo got a shrimp basket, with frozen shrimp, of course. The fried dishes came with pre-packaged cups of tarter sauce, as if that is such a difficult condiment to whip up and don’t order iced tea. I ran dry about half way through my meal and wondered why I wasn’t re-filled. I asked our server for another, only to find out later on when I got the bill that they charge for re-fills…$ 3.50 for two iced teas. Yipes!!!

Friendly staff and the best comfort food on the south shore. Just like mom used to make. You can’t beat the quality or the prices!

My wife and I are frequent visitors to Squires. The service is friendly and the food is homestyle and good. Food takes a little while to come out from the kitchen so if you’re in a big hurry, you may get a little impatient waiting. We’ll keep coming back.

I’ve been to squires a few times now and I haven’t had a bad meal yet! Like others have said, don’t let the appearance fool you. Very clean establishment with a pub feel. Adam is a great bartender. Very friendly and attentive. I’ve had the Mac and cheese and the Shepard’s pie. Both great! Last visit I had a salad and onion rings which were perfect. I was expecting to get massive onion rings that I’m not a fan of but these were the perfect size! If you’re looking for somewhere to have a quick bite to eat or chat over some drinks in the hanover mall area, consider stopping here!

I didn’t have too much hope for this place from the outside but was pleasently surprised. Went in for lunch while Hugo the Pug was being groomed at the Pet Express(possibly not the name) across the street. Inside was clean and pub like. Menu was full of choices. Decided on the chicken parm sandwich. It was average. not bad but not something I’d order again. L got the tukey club and parmesan wings. The wings were great. he said he liked his sandwich also. I’d go back again and try something else. not bad for a reasonably priced meal.

Don’t let the outside fool you. I hadn’t eaten here in ages but had a chance to stop by for a Saturday lunch. Good selection of draft beers that cover a wide range. I settled in with a Harpoon IPA and chatted with the bartender. The owner stopped by and was extremely friendly. He’s owned the place for 30 years and may have met every person living on the south shore. There were plenty of options on the menu including a heathy selection. I ended up with the Big Brazillian. Before you get any ideas, it’s a burger with a fried egg on it. It came cooked to perfection and the 8oz of Angus Beef was delicious. Accompanied by a side of fries it was a solid lunch. I would recommend this for anyone looking for good food at value prices.
