I heard good things about this place from friends so I thought I’d give it a try. Boy was it a bad idea! I ordered beef stir fried noodles and beef noodle soup. Not only was it not tasty but the staff was super rude! I came at 9:45 pm. They close at 11pm. They sat me and my friend at a table. We were going to order appetizers and they said the kitchen for appetizers are closed but you can order entrees. What’s up with that? After we ate, I gave a $ 50 for the $ 15 meal. The waitress was complaining that she cleared up the cashier and didn’t have change. Is that my problem? I am not coming back here again. There are plenty of great Chinese restaurants in downtown Flushing to choose from.

This really isn’t a review; it’s more of a love story. Do you have a secret go-to spot that you are reluctant to tell your friends about for fear of them turning your«spot» into their«spot»? This is the case for me and my love that is «Happy Beef Noodle House». I’ve been going here for years. In it’s first incarnation, it was a divey noodle shop that had a glass case displaying all the beautifully stewed goodies that you can have in your meal. They varied from things like stewed beef and beef tendon to standards like bean curd and tea eggs. A fire several years ago gave them a reason to «class» up the joint and now the glass case has made way for additional seating and a more cosmopolitan vibe. Personally, I loved the character of the old place, but frankly, I was just happy that they opened up again so that our love affair could continue. Any place that puts a dish in their name of their restaurant has got to have balls. It dares you to try their version and see if you can find anything better. After a taste of their beef noodle or beef and beef tendon noodle, it’s easy to see why. They have a reason to brag and boast. It’s everything as advertised; chewy noodles, stewed beef and or beef tendon that isn’t over cooked, a flavorful clean broth that isn’t too beefy, yet delivers the goods. Scoop in some of the pickled veg on the table and some hot chili sauce and you will be well on your way to be smitten. Throw in that you almost never have to wait for a table, it’s never too crowed or noisy, small enough to easily get attentive service and it is reasonably priced. «Happy» indeed.

The noodles here exceeded my expectations. At first glance, this place doesn’t look very lively, as you can see waitstaff sitting down inside the restaurant from the outside window. But this place sure knows how to make a good bowl of beef noodle soup! Skip the appetizers as everything is fried and probably not that fresh. I didn’t enjoy my fried calamari very much. I ordered the taiwanese styled sautéed beef with noodles and it was so delicious. The noodles were a good texture, a little chewy but not soggy, and tasted really fresh. The broth was surprisingly not too salty and suited the noodles really well. The sautéed beef was a bit too salty for me, but it complimented well with a spoonful of noodles and broth. At around $ 10(with tip and tax) a meal, it is definitely on the pricier side for noodle soup, but I enjoyed my noodles very much and would definitely come back.

Pretty impressed by the level of spice in their beef stew noodle soup. Very flavorful broth. The friends I came with recommended spooning the pickled vegetables into the broth to give it even more flavor. I insisted on making my broth even redder, which may not have been wise. I think I can handle spicy foods pretty well, but every time I tried to drink the broth, it made me choke or cough. I take that to be a good indicator of spice level. Tasty enough, but I’m not a fan of the noodles that came in the dish, so I’ll only come back if other people want to. I take my noodle soups very seriously!

Happy Noodle Shop has been around for as long as I can remember to be honest. I remember those freshman years of college; calling friends out to eat here. This shop is very much different from what it used to be when I was in college.(It’s scary to think that it’s been close to a decade since I graduated.) Unfortunately the food has gone downhill. While it’s true that Taiwanese beef noodles are quite different from Lanzhou noodles… if you were to ask me where I’d prefer to eat noodles I’d definitely choose a Lanzhou noodle place over this place. Reasons? They are as follows: 1) The noodles here are expensive! If I remember correctly, each bowl is close to $ 8 a bowl. In terms of Chinese restaurant pricing that’s quite high since other places charge around $ 5 to $ 6 a bowl. 2) The noodles here are machine pulled rather than hand pulled. Hand pulled noodles always have a better texture and taste in my experience. 3) The meat and soup base doesn’t taste good and just feels plain salty. It’s nowhere near what I remembered them having served back when I was a poor college student. Overall, I would pass on this place. I’m not sure why people still rave about this place, but to me, their shine is long over.

The place is a small, hole in the wall type of place. Food is crazy cheap. Had the beef and tendon stew over the noodle soup. It was crazy salty. I also had the spicy cold noodles, which were a plate of chilled noodles with an intense concentrated, paste-like spicy sauce. I kinda like it in a college man’s budget kinda way. Also had the sweeten soy drink to wash it all down. Meal cost like 13 bucks. TOOCHEAP

Thanks to Jocy C. and her magnificence, I had the Stewed Pork and Egg Noodle Soup for lunch one day for takeout. OMG. YES. I mean I LOVEPORKBELLY. So soft and yummy. It will be salty so… load up on water. I can totally have this once a week. I love soupy noodles with soft tender pork belly. Geez. I want some NOW!!! Very affordable. Everyone is nice there, to me. They are willing to explain anything if you have questions… if you need an explanation… they sent someone who spoke English to help me. AWESOME. Very accommodating. Another time I had the dumplings that were boiled. I love dumplings… sorry…I am Asian and dumplings is a food group. I don’t care what the USDA says about the food groups… how do I petition for dumplings to be a food group??? Perfect accompaniment is hot tea to wash the grease away from you. At least that is what Chinese people say. Soooooo warming. Happy Beef Noodle House makes me happy!!!

I’m a fan of the tube that goes from the register on the top floor to the kitchen on the bottom floor. I sneaked in a «Thank You!» to the kitchen before I left. Drink Fresh Soy Milk! It’s not only good for women who’s about to hit menopause. Good for good taste. Beef noodle and seasonal vegetables were good. I would definitely go back to try their other Taiwanese dishes. They accidentally brought out a fan tuan(rice roll with fried chinese donut inside). It’s one of my favorite Taiwanese snack foods and now I wish that wasn’t sent back. I would have eaten it after my bowl of noodles, and vegetables, and soy milk, and the fried donut that we ordered, and the piece of porkchop that my friend shared with me. It felt like a nice aunty was serving us.

Happy beef noodles = Happy Wendy I fell in love during my first visit and I recently drove from Jersey to try it again! The place is somewhat small but they have tables big enough to fit 8 – 10 people so if it’s not busy(both times I went, it wasn’t), you can definitely bring a group of friends to enjoy the different types of noodles this place has to offer! The service is good and the orders come out very quickly. For appetizers, I’ve tried the beef in scallion pancakes, beef stomach(cold), and fried buns with condensed milk., chicken cutlet(fried chicken breast spicy/non spicy). All abso-freaking-lutely delicious! For entrees I’ve tried the beef tendon & beef stew, and beef stew only noodle soups. You get to choose the type of noodles you’d like(vermicelli, egg noodles and broad flat noodles, etc). Be prepared for a LOT of noodles and plenty of ingredients inside the bowl. I feel like most places only would give you 3 or 4 pieces of meat. My bowl here definitely had at least 6 pieces of tender beef stew and tendons. Mmmmm A surprising note was that this place offers stinky tofu which i definitely smelled when walking to the entrance. Definitely trying it next time! Prices are pretty decent. Noodles are about $ 7 a bowl and apps average about $ 2.50. They accept credit cards too which is a plus from Chinatown! And they are opened til midnight every night so it’s a great spot for a post partying meal.

Whenever I wander into Flushing Chinatown, this inevitably becomes a target. It’s a surefire winner with an awesome selection, great service, and a knack for feeding any random craving I may have. I love the BBQ corn, which has a great kick thanks to all the spices it’s rolled in, and one order is good to split between two people. The soups of all kinds are piping hot, a personal favorite is the three mushroom soup with vermicelli. You can pick your ingredients, down to noodle type, and slurp away. Don’t wear a white shirt unless you have somehow magically figured out how to get hot soup and noodles into your mouth with a shallow spoon and chopsticks and not dribble it all down your front. If you have perfected this momentous feat, please teach me, because apparently I have the culinary grace of a two year old despite years of experience. The entrees and rice dishes are also great, a personal favorite is the fried seafood rice. Overall, I’d advise going with a group, or just one or two other very hungry people(or those whose eyes are bigger than their stomachs, myself for example). Get a bunch of stuff and share. Make sure to add some homemade pickle to everything, or at least try it, it’s delicious! Regardless, you’ll end up with leftovers. And that is always a good thing!

I was walking home from the gym one Saturday afternoon and felt like having some beef brisket noodle soup, so I thought I’d pop into a noodle restaurant I haven’t been to before in the neighbourhood. And just going by the name, Happy Beef Noodle House sounded promising. Walking in, I could quickly tell that this is one of those restaurants in Flushing where locals like to go to grab a quick and inexpensive lunch. I sat down and without looking at the menu, tried to order a bowl of beef brisket noodle soup. Unfortunately, they do not have it. What the dealio yo? Then I realised this restaurant was more of a Taiwanese joint — beef brisket is more common in Cantonese food. I was disappointed, but since my ass was already in the chair and I was too lazy to get up and go to another restaurant, I decided to stay and opened up the menu. As Harold and Kumar would say, after walking to the elevator and realising that they’ve forgotten Kumar’s cell phone, «we’ve gone too far.» But I still wanted beef and noodle. So I ordered a beef stew and tendon noodle soup. Happy Beef Noodle House’s menu also has a list of small dishes, which are like appetisers. From this list I ordered pig intestine with pickled sour cabbage. This is a dish of thinly sliced and boiled pig intestine mixed with pickled cabbage, served cold. I love this dish and It’s been a while and a half since I’ve had it. My food came quickly enough. The pig intestine with pickled sour cabbage was soft and flavourful, and as usual, the taste of the pickled cabbage acted as a great complement to the intestine. And although I like beef brisket much more than I do beef stew, it was still very nicely done. The beef was very tender and really hit the spot. I don’t know if I would recommend Happy Beef Noodle House for the weekend tourist to Flushing, who may be looking for something unique or especially spectacular. But it is a great spot for some quick lunch if that is what you’re looking for.

Happy Beef Noodle House serves many dishes, but their specialties are noodle soups. The restaurant is clean, has many tables, and has air-conditioning. Try getting a table by the front window to enjoy the view of the street, while eating your meal. I ordered a Beef Stew Noodle Bowl, which cost $ 5.25. I waited about 20 minutes for my meal to arrive. The soup contained heaps of long egg noodles, several chunks of tender beef, a small amount of green garnish and a boat-load of soup. The bowl took me an hour to eat, and I almost couldn’t finish, but my large appetite proved to be strong enough. It was an amazing deal. My friends both ordered the same thing, Noodle Soup with Fried Calamari for $ 6.25. The bowls were as large as mine, with a plate of Fried Calamari on the side. They each got a hard-boiled egg in their bowls. The Fried Calamari wasn’t too breaded(which i liked), and it was spiced just right. This restaurant has low prices, extremely large portions, and enough seating space. The only problem I had with this restaurant was, in the middle of our meal, a disgusting smell came from the back, so it’s a good idea to get a table at the front. Also, the bathrooms aren’t dirty, but they aren’t very clean either.

I don’t really eat beef. So… that means I get to eat the other yummies that nobody tries! The sweet potato fries are AMAZING. Lightly seasoned, reminiscient of bbq, sugar, salt and other delishness. The salty and spicy calamari. I’m not a spice fan, but the crispiness made for great texture. The chives pancake — have had better, but this is on par with most places. The 3 mushroom noodle soup — hurray for veggies!(Not sure if the broth was beef or not though) BBQ corn is supposed to be really good— my friends were raving about it, unfortunately I didn’t fit it into my stomach. Space can be a little tight depending on where you are sitting, but for a 5 minute wait on a Sunday afternnon in Flushing, it was great.

I don’t really think I am expert enough to be able to comment on the«authenticity» of the food. If it were Japanese Food, I could do that. But I do like Happy Beef Noodle House’s Combo Beef Tendon & Beef Noodle Soup with the Pickled Cabbage on the Side. One of the few places where I really enjoy Beef Tendon. A Great Inexpensive Meal!

This place is recently renovated and feels clean! I must comment on the air conditioner. Kudos to having it blasting on a super hot Sunday! Ordered the Beef Stew and Tendon Noodle Soup as well as the Stew Pork and Egg Noodle Soup. Both were pretty good. The broth is lighter in flavor with condiments on the side that you adjust the flavor to your needs(pickled cabbage, vinegar, and hot pepper sauce). I loaded up on pickled cabbage and vinegar. Woot! The actual meats themselves have been soaked in some sort of soy sauce base prior to being in the soup, so the meats may be a tad bit too salty by itself. Offset it with the noodles and the lighter broth — you’re all set! Noodles are not the hand pulled kind… but good enough. Service was efficient… not too great on the English though. I must comment on their large tea cups. Kudos as I am a hot tea drinker! Beef Stew and Tendon Noodle Soup — Stew Pork and Egg Noodle Soup — Place Setting(Large Cup of Tea!) — Worth a trip if you like the lighter flavored noodle soups!

Craving for some noodle soup and reluctant to spend $ 12-$ 14 on ramen. You won’t leave Happy Beef Noodle House disappointed. Like the restaurants adjacent, the establishment is fairly small with about ~9 wood-lacquered tables and one large 10-person table. The place has been recently renovated with pleasant yellow/white mosaic tiled walls, large tiled floors, and mirrored walls to make it feel a little larger than it really is. Our party of 4 all ordered similar varieties of the beef noodle soup. I ordered the Beef Stew and Beef Tendon Chow Fun Noodle Soup($ 6.50). I was surprised when our orders took no more than 5 minutes before being served in large soup bowls with 5 – 6 cubes of beef, 4 – 5 pieces of beef tendon, green vegetables, and a generous portion of flat noodles. The broth tasted very authentic and reminded me of one of my mother’s soups, delicious! Spice lover? Squeeze some Sriricha into the broth and mix, and you’ll be quite amazed at how it compliments the beef broth so well. The beef tendons were cooked well enough so that they were soft yet chewy with a gelatinous texture. You either learn to love it or hate it, and I was definitely a big fan of their beef tendon. But what really stood out was their beef stewed so that it was very tender and would easily break apart when biting into it. Yum!!! On the table is a variety of hot sauces(varying from Sriricha, homemade hot sauces, and soy sauce) and a medium-sized bowl of unlimited green pickled vegetables. The green pickled vegetables were fresh with a subtle sour flavor. I found myself eating a lot of it with my noodles. For $ 6.50, you can order two bowls of this delicious noodle soup for what compares to one bowl of ramen at neighboring restaurants. Fast service, all you can eat pickles, tender beef and flavorful broth, I left with a very happy stomach and will definitely be visiting this place again.

I had beef noodle soup and braised tofu. I agree with most of the people here — the beefs are really tendor and good flavor but the broth is not rich enough. The owner lady was really nice but one of the waiters was pretty rude to a customer while I was there. In general, it is a good place to go but still not quite authentic.
