Very disappointed, came here for my dad’s bday dinner. It was late, 9:40 the restaurant was nearly empty. They put us in a tiny table. Nicely asked waiter for a bigger table since we wanted to order a bday feast for him, the waiter cursed at us under his breath and threw chopsticks at us. Told the manager, he said the restaurant is small, tough luck. i guess this is their usual customer service here. Never again, we walked out. Good luck doing business with that attitude.

Another great place to grab some Cantonese cuisine in Flushing. One foot inside you’ll see a vintage Cantonese styled restaurant, old school atmosphere that’ll make you feel like you’re chowing down in Hong Kong. This is a family style restaurant, large tables for group outings and dishes designed to be shared during consumption. I recommend you park in the meter parking lot outside(free parking is hard to come by in Flushing) The food here is lip-smacking good. Here are some of my suggestions: — Deep fried large intestines: Crispy and very flavorsome(don’t be afraid to try it) — Golden egg fried rice: Super tasty! A fresh, well-seasoned fried rice topped with yellow raisins, scallions and of course… EGG. — Walnut shrimp with broccoli: The broccoli has a lot of bite and texture, the jumbo shrimp with mayo is just the best. — Pepper beef(the pepper in the name refers to the bell pepper, not the seasoning): The beef is so tender it melts in your mouth. — Crispy Garlic chicken: The skin is nice and crispy and the garnish of garlic and scallion makes the dish very aromatic. Definitely a great way to experience Cantonese dining and cuisine. Makes me tear up just thinking about it.

Came here tonight for the first time with my parents on my mom’s friend recommendation. We sat at a table with our own little corner at the front of the restaurant. My mom flipped through the menu and looked at the posters plastered on the wall. My mom ordered Crab Meat & Fish Maw Soup, Tai Pang Rice Noodle, and Crispy Chicken. I was thinking about the Steamed Crab with Stick Rice until the server mentioned that its $ 26 something per pound and I don’t trust that the staff would give us the fattiest crab with actual crab meat in it so I went with my second choice of Lamb Chops instead. I didn’t taste much crab in the soup and the fish maw was very oddly weird. My parents seemed to enjoy it and be sure to sprinkle some white pepper in the soup. The rice noodle dish was very delicious but needed some hot sauce. Crispy Chicken and Lamb Chops were topped with the fried onions and scallions and love that smell. Lamb Chops was definitely my favorite as I don’t eat it on a daily basis mmmmmm Overall it was very delicious and need to come back to try more dishes soon! Remember CASH only!

Came here for a family dinner. The places is relatively big — they apparently had a lower level floor, but didn’t see it as they had a table open up on the ground floor. We ordered the crab, fried tofu, golden egg fried rice, fish, and garlic chicken, and lamb chop. All recommended by a family friend. The meat was perfectly cooked. The lamb was really tender and the chicken too — seasoned well. I’d say overall, the way they cooked everything was pretty spot on. The flavors aren’t really strong in comparison to other places if you like really bold flavors.

I love the food here. It’s authentic, and full of flavors. Their food is not oily or overly salty or full of MSG. The service here is above average too, the waiters are very attentive to your needs, they are quick and efficient. They do get pretty busy sometimes, especially during the holidays. So the wait can be long at certain times.

On a search for some grub after a great event @leafloungeNYC, batman and I got some recommendations from fellow Unilocalers and went on the hunt. Our first stop was at Spicy & Tasty, unfortunately as we entered they told us the chef left. 53 minutes prior to closing thought? Sorry for being sidetracked, so back to the original review. So batman(Leo) has an obsession with chicken in garlic sauce, like bad. My next stop was going to be at the soup dumpling spot, but he insisted we enter Canton Gourment. I didn’t like it from the start. There was a strong fish Oder as you enter the place, we asked the view the menu and Leo was sold. We asked the sit far from the window and were placed in front of the dying fish tanks. I didn’t know what was worse, facing them or having them quiver behind my back. The server came and spoke English well. Except for when I asked him about the chicken with cashews. Not trying to be mean, but if you need a good laugh ask him about that dish. Onward, why I give the place poor stars is because the food was extremely disappointing. We ordered chicken with broccoli with garlic sauce and asked them to make it spicy, along with their famous fried rice dish, minus the shrimp. The food came in good time. As you plate the food, there was a pool of oil on the bottom of the plate. The portions, although are nice, lack appeal and look dry. The fried rice lacked seasoning or any flavor. Some sweetness or salt or anything just to make it taste less like cardboard. Perhaps some diced pineapples or cashews or even handful more of raisins would possibly help… Possibly. Chicken was also lacked in flavor, and oil doesn’t count. No garlic essence, no heat, no crisp broccoli. They did place a side plate with hot sauce next to us which was disappointing. Waiter never came back to our table to check on us once the food hit the table. Not even to deliver the check. The highlight was the cut orange with the bill, which came with to stickers on top of slices. Common guys!

Authentic Cantonese Hong Kong Style cuisine at an affordable price. Service is quick and very attentive. They must have changed our plates like 3 times. The dishes are not overly salted and it is all flavor. Ordered up some snails, fried pork chops, house special fried rice, melon soup, and some roasted chicken. Usually when you go to other fast food joints that serve up asian food, you are left with grease, oil, and always thirsty because of the sodium and MSG. I am glad to say this place is none of the above, and I only left with my stomach full, my mouth still watering for my next visit, and service that is comparable to a higher end restaurant.

Reasonable prices, family style dishes. Had the stir fried string beans, beef with scallions(had onions in it), and the seafood tofu casserole. All were good. They gave us oranges and a warm coconut syrup soup dessert with chopped carrots and tapioca in the end. Rice is $ 1.25 each bowl. Would go again to try more dishes.

I know Chinese service is expected to be bad but this place has horrible service. I was literally ordering with a server and some other lady server(?) came and tried to take away my menu that I’m literally touching and referring to to order from and asks if im done with it. Then I asked for some seafood recommendations and the guy tells me to get the walnut shrimp(which is typical banquet fare) so I asked if he can recommend something a bit different from the usual. He replied with the boredest tone and said«no, every restaurant is the same, we all make the same stuff.» –_– so enthusiastic dude, you’re really selling your food. And also I know this restaurant makes seafood the crispy house special way! However this is my bfs favorite spot for fried rice. He loved their famous fried rice. I love seafood. So it works. I opted for the black bean clams today instead of their house special clams but both are good. The black bean clams are done very well and even have a tiny bit of kick in it which I love. Btw i did end up ordering the stupid walnut shrimp today because I didn’t feel like thinking of something else to get and it was JUSTOKAY.

Although the prior review stands, this place had to lose a star for pressuring my group of eighteen people to leave because the restaurant was too busy on two different occasions. There’s plenty of Cantonese fare around and, perhaps not as good, at least one will not be asked to leave.

If you’re in Flushing and don’t want to take a risk with non-Cantonese food as you’ve grown accustomed to the Best of Chinese food then this is the restaurant I’ve always come to know as a safe bet and always good since I’ve first been there in 2003. Canton Gourmet has amazing fried food-whether stir fried or deep fried and soups are on par or better than what you would find in say a Dong Lai or Yee Li of Chinatown. Price wise, you are paying a premium as there’s not a lot of restaurants in Flushing that can match Canton Gourmet’s preparation and execution. As a matter of fact I would go as far as to say it is bested by Wo Hop, Hop Shing and Pings, all of which are tops in their own rights and Pings’ on the same price range. Recommendations: Yang Region or Bay Fung Tong Fried Rice Any of their Fried Shell Fish Lamb Chops Fried Garlic Chicken Singaporean or Hoy Ping Pan Fried Rice Noodles Fish Belly Soup Now those of you who like Cold Crabs(Preserved in an Herbal Soup Mix then chilled) it is $ 70 here vs. Congee Village’s $ 40. Anyway if you must compare a place in Flushing which offers such a good tasting experience, simply go to the Flushing Mall or Century Mall’s food court as they offer very solid foods and a plethora to choose from, something that caters to the most discerning critic… like myself(at times).

I normally don’t like to admit that some places live up to the hype they get but damn, you better believe it – it is worth every bit of the hype. My family has an odd relationship with this place… they know their food is mind-blowingly good, yet they prefer to go to other places in the area. That doesn’t make sense, but it makes perfect sense in our family(don’t ask). This place has tailed in large crowds in recent years, but the authenticity of their food hasn’t changed at all. It is refreshing to see a restaurant like Canton Gourmet do wonders in an area filled with northern Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine – it feels like I’m having comfort food in Guangzhou and Hong Kong again. If you can find a way to get the Dungeness Crab, by all means, go for it! I highly recommend this – even my parents do, and that’s actually saying a lot. I believe a pound is about $ 50, but the amount of assorted seasoning is just heavenly and unbelievable. I’d recommend almost anything on their menu, but the Golden Egg Fried Rice is an explosion of exciting flavors and combinations – it’s so delicate! My favorite part is probably the dried scallops but as a fried rice connoisseur, this is definitely on the top of my list. Prices are slightly higher than your average Chinese restaurant but trust me when I say that you will get the most bang for your buck! Because this place has gotten so popular, wait can be very long sometimes but the staff is so pleasant and friendly!

Came here for a work related dinner. We tried a bunch of things, including lobster salad, lamb chops, sauteed watercress, scallion and soy sauce clams, sautéed snails, crispy chicken, jumbo crabs served with cold jelly fish, etc. Few items stood out: the lamb chops. Marinated nicely and very tender and juicy. Perfect. Jumbo crabs served with cold jelly fish. Two big crabs wth big pieces of crab legs served cold. Tons of meat inside the crab. Delicious. Lobster salad. Big chunks of lobster meat served cold with bunch of fruits mixed in mayonnaise. Fresh and delicious and the decoration on the plate was gold. All the other items we tried were good. A very solid Cantonese restaurant. Come with a bunch a people this way you can try different things.

Legit Cantonese food and cash only. Came here with my family of seven. We order five dishes to share. golden egg fried rice young chow fried rice pan fried flat noodles with beef Congee with chicken seafood Lo mein Yes we consumed all carbs but we didn’t regret the decision. It was all too delicious! Each one was enough to feed 4 – 6 people. They didn’t skip out on the seafood and meat in each dish. It didn’t take them long to come out with our order. Price was decently well fair for the amount we were given.

An amazing hole in a wall Authentic Cantonese style restaurant. Came here for my dister’s bday dinner: family style… The shared soup made of corn and egg drop was silky good, not too salty… Then we had the crunchy fried noodles with beef and Chinese broccoli and then we had a pan fried garlic fried marinated whole flounder– it’s so crunchy and tasty to the bones, the waitstaff were very attentive, and they deboned the fish in front of you… The special garlic marinated fried chicken is the best– all tender and crunchy for real. And the shrimp with mayo and broccoli and pecan is just out of this world– one must try it for sure… We will come Back for sure to try the Dungeness crab, and the assortment it seafood style in this.

One of my favorite Cantonese style Chinese restaurant. It has more authentic menu than the westernized Kang Pao chicken. The Dungeness crab was still alive and kicking to command $ 70 for 2 lbs. it came back swamped with fried onion, pepper, and salt. Oh so delicious! The dish was served while others were pushed to the side to make way for the piece de résistance. My friends who lived in Hong Kong for four years said that it brought him back there. CASHONLY

This place is truly underrated. We came here in a group of about 11 adults and two small children without reservations(silly us!) on a Saturday around 6:45 in the evening and it was packed! Luckily, turns out there is an expansion of the restaurant(you’ll be asked to walk out of the restaurant, make a left, and go down the stairs) at the basement level. Who knew?! It had several large tables and appeared very clean. There was one other large group there when we arrived. We ordered many different dishes including crab meat and fish soup, famous garlic aromatic crispy chicken, famous golden fried rice, poached snow pea sprout, clams with black bean sauce, salt and pepper pork chops, Dungeness crab with sticky rice, mayonnaise shrimp with walnuts, and fried squid. Everything was very good. I have no complaints whatsoever regarding the food. Service was fine. I’d love to come back and try the rack of lamb next time.

Cantonese people prize their cuisine for its subtle undertones, ultra-fresh seafood, and clean flavors. If this sounds like something that would interest you, then Canton Gourmet is definitely the place for you. Being a seafood fiend myself, no creature was safe from my grasp at this restaurant. First, I ordered the deluxe jellyfish served cold for an appetizer. The crunchiness of the jellyfish complimented the fresh and slightly vinegary sweetness of the marinade. An order of sauteed clams were OK; in the past their sauteed clams in fish sauce or in black bean sauce were much fresher and larger. Mapo tofu challenged the spice tolerances of even the most formidable eaters. The restaurant also serves classic cantonese dishes like sauteed eel(SP), steamed whole fish with ginger and scallion(SP), house special garlic chicken, and other traditional dishes. They’ve all been well-executed and delightful.
