The new menu is very good. Nice changes! The interior has been remodeled which we really like. Much more open and plenty of seating for larger groups. Always love their margs, could use a few more domestic beer selection for everyday guys like mine.

Prices are about $ 4 – 5 more than any good place in town. The food was just awful. The menu was a disappointment with a really odd selection. The food could not have been more bland. I won’t ever be taking the family there again.

This used to be a favorite for our family when we would vacation in Rocky Mountain NP but they seemed to be changing to a «Roadhouse» instead of a Mexican restaurant. The menu was a weird mix of Mexican, sandwiches, burgers, etc. Service was good but food and ambience left a lot to be desired.

I think some of the previous reviewers are being a little harsh. This place is exactly what it’s suppose to be, your average run of the mill tex-mex. We had the pasole, veggie burrito and cheese quesadillas. It was exactly what we expected. Nothing extraordinary. But nothing that bad.

With very few other options of the texmex variety, you are sort of stuck if that’s what you’re wanting. The G. G isn’t the best, but certainly not the worst either. Portions were generous and the ingredients seemed fresh. I had enchiladas and they were pretty good. Nothing overly special, but good. The chips and salsa were yummy and I had a piña colada that was delicious.

After hearing from a friend that this was a good eatery, I was excited to try it out. I am not happy to report that our service was next to awful and the food was nothing to write home about. Our waiter was nice, but we had to ask for things more than once. I hate to rate the restaurant on one bad experience, because I believe that it could have been a great experience, had the help been competent. Try it out, if you’re okay with becoming a Grumpy Gringo yourself.

Food had no flavor and chips were hard. Service was alright but the chicken had no flavor and tasted like it was from a can.

We came here because the name sounded cool and some guy at the Stanley said it was a good place. The chips are stale, the waitress looks scared to death of us, the guacamole dip is like green paste. The food lacked any flavor. Even my salad. My boyfriend said it was the worst enchilada he’s ever eaten. My sister refused to eat her tacos. I’m angry at how much we’re paying for how little we ate. Well, at least the beer was good and my salad leaves were fresh. That’s the only good thing I can say about this place. We’re definitely leaving Grumpy Gringos, grumpy!

Grumpy Gringo is exactly how the food tasted. Service was horrible as well. We had a party of 19 and were told we could not order seperately or have seperate checks. However, we were told they would split it up for us at the end. With the 18% gratuity. If your in Estes Park craving Mexican food. GOELSEWHERE!

Only tried Grumpy’s since we’re staying across the street. Bland, overpriced, barely Mexican fare. The enchiladas were nasty processed cheddar with a flavorless wrap and had obviously been microwaved. The tostada had a huge mound of bland and thick, pasty refried beans that absolutely destroyed it. The beef taco was okay and had a lot of meat but it was also pretty bland. The chips were standard, not made from fresh tortillas and tasted pretty bland. Worst of all, while waiting for our food the bartender said they had a happy hour before 5:00 daily with half priced beers and margaritas. When I went back the next day a different bartender said they didn’t have a happy hour and that the other bartender was«confused.» So instead I paid $ 4.25 for a very not-very-good local Sunshine Wheat. At least it was a pretty big glass. If I hadn’t been expecting a happy hour I wouldn’t have gone back to Grumpy Gringo’s at all. The only plus I can give this place is that the house margarita is pretty good.

We were craving some TexMex after skiing for weeks. Had the hurricane margarita, and we felt like we were in NOLA. The service was friendly and the prices are fair. The place is super clean almost pristine.

Decided to ignore the bad reviews here and try it out as we had not eaten here in several years. Our experience was a pleasant surprise, maybe the management had changed or something. Food was very impressive and the margarita’s were very good. The wild berry margarita was the best tasting margarita I have ever tasted. The chips and salsa were very good and we got free refills when the menu said you had to pay for them. I will say only thing that was odd was when we were seated the place was pretty empty as we had to wait for a table. They seemed understaffed was our observation. We would return again definitely.

In a word — REVOLTING. This is THE worst Mexican restaurant ever. For me, it has become the yardstick against which all other crappy restaurants are compared. The question is — «Was it as bad as The Grumpy Gringo?» Of course it wasn’t, because that’s not possible! The chips and salsa were awful. The food was terrible. The tea was old and weak. The service was among the worst. My plate of enchiladas, beans, and rice reminded me of a TV dinner that had been allowed to thaw on the counter for a few hours, rather than cooked. Seriously folks, this place is GROSS. I don’t care how hungry you are, you aren’t hungry enough to eat this food!

Worst mexican food ever ! Maybe even the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. Now we know why the restaurant was almost empty. The food looked and tasted like it was made a month ago, frozen, then halfway microwaved. The cheese enchiladas are nasty. Cold hard cheese in the middle. Taco Bell or Del Taco would be a much better choice for a fraction of the cost.

Totally not worth a drive to Estes Park. There was nothing horribly wrong with the food but it was cafeteria quality, not to mention that my lemonade tasted like bathroom cleaner and the ambiance was about as appealing as a nursing home dining room.

The Grumpy Gringo makes me really… well…grumpy. Shame on me for not checking reviews before coming into this place so I would know what to expect. I’m at a family-reunion style gathering up in Estes this weekend, and in an attempt to get away from the continual hot dogs and sauerkraut, I suggested Mexican. When we arrived the parking lot was completely packed, however the restaurant was half empty and we waited about 15 – 20 minutes at the bar before being seated. No problem, we started on margs. Which were ok — I tried the raspberry marg(a special), which was good, and my cohorts had regular margs. It’s a sad day when the high point of the meal is tortilla chips. Thin and crispy and salty and delicious, these basically saved the day. I could have just made this my meal. The salsa was so-so. The food was… not that great. I had an enchilada torte — basically tortillas piled with beef and cheese, and I chose the spicy pork green chile on top. My sister had enchiladas in white sauce, and it was meh. Same with bro in law. It was all just meh. However, the service was great. Our server was on top of things for sure, and our bartender was super friendly. But please don’t go here for the food or you will be sorely disappointed. Star 1: Great chips, super spicy green chile, ok margs. Star 2: Good service.

The Gringo is Grumpy ’cause the food is gross. We should have known better when there were only a few cars in the parking lot. To say the front end staff was«disinterested» would be an understatement. The food was lousy and over-priced. The chicken in the enchiladas and burrito was a soft, watery, inedible mush. The ground beef was spiceless but at least didn’t seem like it had been decomposing in the fridge for two weeks like the chicken. My children liked the food. My daughter said her taco was almost as good as the ones served in her school cafeteria. The only redeeming quality was our waitress, who was very nice and seemed to feel a bit guilty about having to pass out the swill this place is serving up.

My family and I made our annual trip to Estes Park for the Scottish/Irish Festival this September. We have always experienced semi-poor food and service in Estes Park. We were excited that there was a new restaurant to visit right next to the hotel. What a big mistake! We were shoved in the back room, given cold food, poor service and no reason to return. The manager even brought a meat thermometer sticking out of a taco to prove that the food was hot! I would never recommend this place to my worst enemy. Stick to taco bell if you are in the mood for Mexican in Estes Park!

No wonder the gringos are grumpy. Corn chips from Costco, salsa out of a jar, spice-less food, lackluster service. My tostada salad came missing both sour cream and guacamole, and my sister-in-law’s carne asada resembled beef jerky. Two stars because the ambiance is nice, and the house margarita was decent.
