My wife is a vegeterian and in our neighborhood, it is so difficult to find a good, vegeterian restaurant. As we were driving through the Midway airport area, we decided to stop and eat at Camino Real. You will see many Mexican restaurants but this restuarant called our attention because they had a banner advertising vegeterian food. We ordered the steak vegeterian burrito with the horchata. For those who are unfamiliar with these foods, I will take time to explain. A burrito is a type of Mexican-American food. It consists of a wheat flour tortilla wrapped or folded into a cylindrical shape to completely enclose the filling.(In contrast, a taco is generally formed by simply folding a tortilla in half around a filling, leaving the semicircular perimeter open.) The flour tortilla is usually lightly grilled or steamed, to soften it and make it more pliable. This was delicious and you could not tell that you were eating soy meat. An horchata is a drink composed of rice water with cinnamon. This was delicious! I have tried this drink in many restaurants. Some restaurants add so much sugar or others don’t add anything at all. Some how Camino Real was able to find the perfect balance to satisfy our culinary needs. I will recommend this place to my other vegeterian friends!

Firstly, the service is exceptional. The lady that works during the week in the evening is such a nice attentive waitress. The first time I tried coming here they were closed because it was Saturday but having had a horrible experience at Indio 2 and still wanting my vegan taco fix on the southside, I came back during the week. The tacos are good. I’ve had tacos of Tinga, Al Pastor, Chicharron and Pollo de soya. With Tinga being the best. I recently went back to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and had the platillo de tinga de soya and it is BYFAR the best thing I’ve had there. The agua de Jamaica has been consistently good and they even have raspados among other dessert options. The chips could be better. They’re stale at times but if chips and salsa aren’t your thing, they serve a complimentary cup of soup after you order your meal and it varies by day. So far I’ve had a white bean with veggies soup and the lentil soup. I wish parking was a little better because the surrounding streets are always pretty full but at least it isn’t metered parking… yet.

This place really tries to make you feel right at home. Every time I come I get greeted with care. The food is good and the portions are great! My dad had a problem with his soup being too spicy and they were very accommodating and offered to make him something else. This place even gives you a complimentary soup while you wait! If I still lived in the area I would definitely go more often!

Everything comes in large portions here. A medium drink is the equivalent of an extra large drink elsewhere. The Carne Asada stilo Camilo Real was delicious.

Best vegetarian/vegan Mexican food in Chicago. Better than quesadilla up north.

This past Friday, me and my boyfriend went to eat here. First time, we had carne asada and carne ala tampiqueña… They were amazing and the service was excellent. I’m so going back again yummmmm.

Veggie options — why of course! I thought they were almost non-existing this neck of the woods. Camino Real was introduced to me and I am so glad. Now, anytime I crave a bite of taco I run here. They make most of their food with either real meat or soya. I’ve had the tacos and sopes… my favorite have been al pastor(their sauce is really yummy). I’m looking forward to actually having a sit-down dinner her because it is just so cozy looking. There are booths along the edger and tables. The place is big for groups. When I’ve gone I’ve encountered only a few other parties dinning in. They also have natural ice creams and juices. I hope this place sticks around!

This is the worst Mexican restaurant i’ve ever ate at. the cheese they use taste like melted plastic. Its just one cook and it takes about 45 minutes for them to serve you the food even when they aren’t busy. I wouldnt eat there again even if they paid me. I think people that left the other reviews are. associated with .

Good food and great service. Have you ever had a craving for some food or wish that what you ordered was prepared a little different, well here they are really accommodating. And I mean reeeally, they will go way out of their way to satisfy your tastes. I usually come here at least twice a week. You come seat where you want and shortly they will bring you the menus, salsas, chips and a cup of the soup of the day. some times they have lentil bean soup, I love their lentil bean soup. And here is the proof that they are so accommodating. Their green chicken enchiladas(4 enchiladas) are really good, but their mole chicken enchiladas are really good as well(BTW they make their own mole sauce and it is really good. So Rosa(the waitress) is there waiting to take your order as you are trying to decide if you want the green or the mole enchiladas, you hesitate for a few seconds wishing you could have both, but you can’t have 2 orders of enchiladas it would be too much food. You jokingly say could I have«2 enchiladas verdes y 2 de mole por favor» expecting her to say nay too much trouble but with a big smile on her face she replies«por supuesto, no problema» Then you are like what??? I know it would be a lot of trouble to do that but they are still doing it. Cool and huge points just for that. BTW Rosa is the happiest, friendliest waitress I have ever had, she has a huge contagious personality. The menu is extensive, with many vegetarian options and healthy salads and fresh fruit and veggie juices. Their tortas and tacos are really good. I have also had their breakfast dishes and they are good. And all this for very cheap, very cheap. They also have the usual horchata, jamaica, bottled mex drinks. Good food, great service.

My friend has been raving and raving about this place. I finally took his advice and drove down last Saturday. I am so glad I did. I had a ‘pastor’ and ‘tinga’ taco. They were both made with soy meats. The flavors were bright and the spices are perfect. I had a bite of the Cubana Torta and ended up ordering one to go. It is hard to find veggie friendly mexican food and Camino Real does a great job. The prices are super cheap and the food is really tasty. Do yourself a favor and go to Camino Real!
