I have always enjoyed the food at Matts Rancho in Cedar Hill! I did not know it was closed and drove from Arlington over to Cedar Hill to eat at my favorite Mexican place only to find that it was closed! What a bomber. I have no clue why there are negative reviews for Matts. My food was always fresh, The staff was always friendly, My children enjoyed going and loved the ice cream. Everything I have ever ordered has always be very good and fresh. Please reopen this location.

Im not sure why some folks complain about food or service at a this place. If portions are too small, order another or stop by McDonalds after leaving. If it doesn’t taste right, order something else. If its too expensive, order something cheaper. Also those who complain about service need to stay at home. Nobody is there to blow sunshine up your rear end. If you need that then go seek counseling. But to all the complainers about food and service, just go to the bar and order a good adult beverage to lighten up /chill out!!! the only bad this about this place is its closed. Please re-open the Cedar Hill location…

Sorry to see that sucky management and poor service have led to this location being forced to close. Always enjoyed the food here, but the service was always lacking! Apparently Matt’s kids have taken over the operations of the business and are running it into the ground. 3 locations closed in the last few months and have now filed bankruptcy.

My husband and I chose this restaurant as a central location to break the news to our parents that we are expecting their first grandchild. We both independently called the day before to make sure we could get a table on New Year’s Eve at 6 p.m. The woman I talked to took my reservation details down, including name, time and number in party. My husband spoke with the manager separately and was assured we could be accommodated. However, when my parents arrived, the restaurant was closed and locked. I called to find out what the trouble was and was told they had closed early due to weather concerns(WHENTHEREWASNOICEORRAINORSNOWATALLUNTILTHENEXTDAY — apparently they can’t do business with temperatures in the high 30’s). When I arrived and was let in the locked doors, a woman showed me the reservations book that did not have our party in it. These people are incompetent, disorganized and completely inconsiderate. I chose this restaurant because of its good reputation and central location to our parents to share some joyous news, but after this incident, we will never go to any Matt’s location again.

Great place. We sat at the bar and the bartender Carrie kept us entertain the entire time. 1000 Cheers to her for her work! We had the shrimp cocktail which was delicious. The complementary chips & salas were on point. We def will return and try some more food. And hope to see Carrie there!

Great food. Really, it’s some of the best Mexican food in Cedar Hill. The Chicken stuffed Zucchini is my favorite. Also try their two different types of Tortilla soup. I like the traditional. The fajitas for 2 could feed a small army. The staff is friendly but can be slooooow. Aside from a few that are really on their game(Michelle is our favorite) and make for great service. We have three kids and they love this place too. The kids meals are large portions. For three boys that’s great news. Their lunch menu is great too if you’re here from 11 – 3. They even have breakfast!

This place was amazing and we came on a perfect night to sit on the patio. Started off with the queso dip that was perfect, one of the best I’ve had. My red enchiladas were sooo good! Servers are super friendly! Best time!

We tried Matt’s for the first time a few weeks ago. We ordered drinks which were good. The food and the service was good. The dining area was nice and spacey. I will definitely go again when in the mood for Mexican food.

We visit Matt’s on a regular basis and always enjoy the food. The Bob Armstrong is always perfect and the margaritas hit the spot. I have several favorite dishes that I pick from, depending on my mood. The«petite fajitas» are PLENTY for one person and not much smaller, if at all, than the regular order of fajitas. The«chicken zucchini» is a hidden gem. The sopapillas are mediocre. There is alot to choose from on their menu. The service is a bit of an issue. The front desk hosts are unorganized and unprofessional. We’ve had a mix of good and bad waiters so we have been considering only doing take out because of the service. The bar opens up to the patio seating area that has misting fans for warm days. Get a margarita. You can thank me later(; I always lose cell phone reception as soon as I walk in the door so idk if they offer free wifi. I couldn’t connect to it even if they did. The waiters would be able to tell you though. they spend enough time on their phones. Go with patience and you’ll enjoy the food!

We visited Matt’s on 8⁄3. First, I am a creature of habit. It is very hard for me try a new restaurant(reasons for it), but when I do, I always do so with an open mind. Last night, to celebrate my sisters birthday, she selected Matt’s, after her trips to the original in Austin. We arrived about 7:30pm, and Matt’s was not packed(many open tables), but still had to wait 20 minutes for a table. I understand the«why», as I am sure it was not a busy night and management probably let a few people off due to a slower than expected Sat. We were sat in our table, and our waitress was really good. Their was 7 in our party, and the chips and salsa were delivered ASAP. The highlight of our meal was the great tasting salsa, and the thick chips. After looking at the menu(and I love enchiladas), I decided against them. Why? Who would spend $ 10 – 12 for two? Not this guy. I settled for the CFS, with Cowboy Style, others in our party had the spinach and mushroom quesadillas, with chicken($ 2 extra), beef and guac enchiladas, red enchiladas, beef tenderloin fajitas, and chicken Martinez. Now, my CFS was very tender, but lacking the cowboy style. very little chili(more like a sauce), little cheese, and no onions. I ordered flour tortilla’s(4 for $ 1) and they were good, but I was disappointed with my dish. All in all, the feedback from the group was, «we tried it, nothing special, very average, pricy, and had better. All the food when it came out, had the look of sitting under a heat lam a bit to long. The atmosphere is not real festive, and for a birthday celebration… don’t ask if they sing for you. They don’t. They did give my sister 1 sopapillas with honey, tasted great, looks like a flat pop tart. After our $ 120.00 bill, we all left underwhelmed. We will continue to hit Mi Cocina, Uncle Julio’s, and Abuleo’s, plus our favorite hole in the wall locations. We know what we are getting(food, atmosphere, food taste and quality) and for a bit higher price, we would rather spend our dollars elsewhere. I was really looking forward to adding another Tex Mex restaurant to our rotation. Darn it…

Man, I’m really sorry to write another negative about a place that serves such good food, but it is SO disappointing that Matt’s(at least the Cedar Hill location) has not improved its policy with regard to how customers are greeted and welcomed. Again last night, for the umpteenth time, there was no one to greet us when we entered. My daughter and her family had arrived several minutes before we did, and the hostess was gone. When she returned, my daughter was standing RIGHTINFRONTOFTHESTAND, yet the hostess ignored her and greeted a couple who had just walked in the door. Once my daughter told her that we’d be a party of 7, the young lady disappeared. When my husband and I entered a couple of minutes later, the stand was(once again) unattended. There has got to be a better way for this place to handle arriving customers. When we entered there was a waiter to our left entering something on a touch screen: no greeting from him. There was a server behind the bar to our right: no greeting there, either. So the bottom line is, when you walk in you’re left cooling your heels until the gal makes it back to the stand and notices you. No other restaurant I patronize treats customers this way. As much as I love Matt’s shrimp cocktail, I’ll get my Mexican food fixes elsewhere — where they welcome us when we come in the door.

Yuck! The waiter was nice but a complete dingbat and the salad I got was nothing like it was described on the menu. My friend had the eggs, but it was more like egg coated tortilla chips. The guacamole was good.

Hmm… I just had better in Dallas. They could work on the atmosphere. Went to another place in Grapevine and it was the same price, great atmosphere.

Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Ok, we’ll go with good: I DO love their different breed of salsa, and better than average queso. They also have an interesting chile relleno — served with raisins and pecans. And sometimes their staff can be attentive… As far as the rest of the food goes, it’s around the middle of the road, for me. Tried the nachos once, wasn’t very impressed. This location does, however, have a patio area(which I always love, if you can’t tell), where you can relax with friends and margaritas and people-watch the night away. Which sometimes can be good, because service can be slow, inconsistently so. Can be a little pricey, which matches the area Matt’s in located, but doesn’t match the food.

Not good, but the service was nice. The food did not look appetizing. Gooey and greasy and did not taste good. I think my sister liked their burritos, but I wouldn’t go back. Maybe their drinks are decent? I saw a lot of people drinking, so you could probably go for the drinks, because this Tex-Mex place was not good food wise.

Our recent dining experience was very good despite apparent a/c issues! Table of six we were and we all ordered a variety of platters(Chicken Fajita Taco Salad, Enchilada, Chicken Chile Relleno, etc.) and we were all very pleased with our choices. We started out with a order of Bob’s Queso and the Regular Queso. Both were good and Bob’s was by far the table favorite! The Sangria Margarita was GREAT too! I first met Matt Martinez, Jr years ago when he opened his tiny(former 7 – 11 store?) location on Ferguson Rd. in Dallas. That’s where I had my first taste of his Chile Relleno with raisins and pecans. That dish is one to remember and the one I had yesterday was very near the same. Not the same, but very near! We look forward to visiting again when in the area. RIP Matt Martinez, Jr

I visited Matt’s Restaurant several times. It’s a great place for family and friends. The service is good. Sometimes the waiters are a little slow bringing your chips and drinks, but once they get it to you the service is quite good. I love the taste of their food. It has a fresh straight off the grill flavor. My daughter and friend ordered appetizers and drinks. We ordered beef and bean nachos with spinach Quesadillas. The portions were generous. We enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the flavor and textures of the nachos and Quesadillas, along with the sour cream, guacamole, and chips. I’m there every chance I get.

I go to this place pretty often when I’m in the area. They are able to quickly support large groups which is helpful when we have a lot of people attending a company lunch for some reason. Their queso is really really good and I’m a huge fan of how thick it is. It’s so thick that if it sits for too long it will actually start to be solid again so eat fast! I almost always get their chile rellenos because they are so incredible. They have a crumbled cheese on top with pecans and raisins. I know it sounds strange but the combination of the sweet, the salty and the hot with the pepper is to die for. I am always in heaven when I have them. I’ve also had the chicken fried steak which is pretty good, and clearly cooked cast-iron style cause you can taste it. I’ve also had the enchiladas and although they were a little oily I was not dissapointed on flavor and I know you won’t be either. Maybe not the best mexican food ever, but definitely the best chile relleno I’ve ever had!
