Is there any better place in Carmel to shop for modern home furnishings and décor?.. NO! I love the Z Gallerie and usually always end up buying something when I visit. This store and it’s style are not for everyone, but for those of you that like the latest in modern home décor, this is best place to go!

This is a designer’s heaven! The products that they have are very hip, modern and reasonable. They even have an on-site designer/consultant who can help you design your home.

My first thought about Z Gallerie: «This place is going to be expensive.» I wandered in with the hubby during an impromptu post-Italian ice stroll around Clay Terrace. I was enticed by a giant, white porcelain(ha!) Buddha statue in one of the store’s windows. I simply had to see how many Franklins this thing was. We quickly located the item and searched around for somebody to tell us its price… we were too afraid to lift it, it being porcelain and all. NOT! My curiosity was eating at me, so I reached out to very carefully cradle Buddha’s lotus-folded legs only to find out that is thing was some kind of resin. Fabulous!!! Lightweight, probably unbreakable, looked like the real deal. And, it was way, way less than I had anticipated. I don’t own it yet, but that’s because I can’t choose between it and several other lovelies I spied on the shelves of the Z, including a super Kuan Yin rendition. What a find this shop is! Although it is a chain, I think it does a good job of bridging the gap between expensive décor and the more everyday offerings of a Pier I(and we do shop a lot at the Pier). I am not one to unload tons of cash on chi-chi furnishings, but I do like quality — I think the Z fits the bill in that regard. They have a great mix of ethnic, class and unusual. Two things to definitely check out: the massive display of wall art — in all price ranges — and the fab collection of tasteful«skull» décor items. We found the coolest enamel skull trinket box here for a good friend who has a taste for goth :-)
