The restaurant concept is good, the food however is not. Had the buffet and all of the food seemed old and few things tasted good enough to eat the whole thing.

Stopped in on a Thursday evening around 6pm. Not much of a crowd, but that is OK. A quiet meal is good! Elected to try the buffet after looking it over and comparing the menu items. Service was very good. Tried a variety of items. Enchiladas were good, not great. However sitting in the buffet, they did not have the hot from the oven temperature. They were acceptable. Fajitas were very good, they were juicy, not dried out. Their crab cakes were excellent! This close to the Gulf of Mexico, anything less that very good would not be accepted. Shrimp was OK. It was the frozen, breaded jumbo style. Chips and salsa were great! Not chunky salsa, two varieties, a mild red sauce and a green hot style. Both were very good. Biggest disappointment was the frozen margarita. It was lacking lime juice and not enough tequila! Not very much flavor, it was mainly crushed ice. Thankfully they brought a bowl full of sliced limes to the table. Used every one of them to enhance the drink. Will I eat here again, yes! But instead of a margarita or mixed drink, I will get a beer.

First time here. Loved the décor. Food was good but service was terrible. We had the chicken/beef fajitas. We felt like we were missing something. It was nice and got with grilled onions and peppers, rice and charro beans and corn tortillas. Like I said food was tasty, beans were a little salty but still good. We had to ask for drink refills and waited and waited and waited for our bill.

Went with my family for Sunday breakfast buffet. The place was busy and you could tell the waiters were hustling. Despite the heavy business the staff were friendly and gave us plenty of personal attention, often joking with us and asking us several times if we needed anything else. We got to sit as long as we wanted without being rushed out. The food– Excellent!!! Buffet is 6.99. Highlights for us were the flour tortillas, barbacoa, potato and eggs, menudo. It was tasty not overkill on the seasoning. Flour tortillas were soft huge and tasty! Temperature was perfect. Coffee was a bit watery and that would be my only complaint. The restrooms were very clean. The owner loves The Beatles so their music was proudly playing in through the restaurant speakers. Beatles memorabilia hung on the walls near the bathroom too :) I love The Beatles so this made my experience more pleasant :) There is a bar there as well.

Lousy food and poor service. They insist that you buy bottled water and that too either voss or Fiji. .implying the regular water is «unsafe» in Brownsville! The food was correspondingly poor. We will never come again.

$ 10 will get you a fantastic Mexican lunch buffet. The service and ambiance is amazing. The restaurant has nice décor, friendly hosts and waiters, and even had salsa music lightly playing. You can order from their menu or dive into their lunch buffet. I opted for the buffet and served myself a small bowl full of charro beans plus a serving of sautéed nopales(cactus), carne guisada, rice, and a serving of sausage with onions. All dishes were good but the nopales were great. They had this little tang to them as if they sautéed them in a bit of garlic and lemon juice. On my second dish I server myself a few pieces of lengua(cow tongue), a few boiled shrimps, and more nopales, they were that good. The buffet has many more other entrees such as enchiladas, tacos, fried fish, macaroni, chicken wings, pasta/chicken salads, and even a table full of deserts. I had not dined here in quite some time. Definitely returning soon.

In town visiting from Oklahoma City, and looked to good Ol’ Unilocal to help me decide on my first restaurant to eat at. Walked in, was seated next to the buffet that was featured, but wasn’t interested. Few minutes after I ordered, I witnessed a waiter gathering his ingredients(chicken, noodles, Alfred sauce, salad, even the dressing) FROMTHEBUFFET for my newly placed order. When my waiter came by, I questioned if my food would be cooked fresh, and he hesitantly stated yes. I’m astonished. This is definitely not a good start to my trip… I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Don’t let looks fool you!

This place is horrid! So my husband and I order 2 different dinner plates. His arrives and the chicken is cold. I had ordered the quail, and waited 45 minutes, and it never showed up. In that time span my husband asks about my quail. The waiter states«Oh yes it’s coming out soon.“They bring a full plate of sliced cucumbers, and shredded lettuce and rotten sliced tomatoes. It was gross. My husband left $ 10 on the table, and we walked out. Another family ordered at another table, and there were 2 roaches climbing on their table. They got up and left too. It’s a restaurant of horrors.

We decided to try the breakfast buffet here one Saturday and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was really good and there was quite a nice selection of both«American» and«Mexican» favorites: biscuits, gravy, made-to-order omelettes, pancakes, barbacoa, beans, rice, chicharrones, menudo, a plethora of taco fillings, fresh fruit, arroz con leche, etc. The only item lacking was bacon. Every single thing that I tried had a REALLY good flavor. Perfectly thin, fresh corn tortillas were brought to the table.(Flour tortillas were extra). We were a little worried because we got here about 30 minutes before the buffet ended(which is often a really bad idea), but the line was constantly tended and restocked and everything was hot and fresh. My only complaints were that the tables were packed too close and the service wasn’t all that attentive. My request for«agua con limon» was apparently lost in translation, but the limonada that I was served was delicious. We will definitely be back for breakfast again, but the food was so good that now we look forward to trying this restaurant for lunch and/or dinner as well.

Three stars, according to Unilocal, means A-ok, and that has been my experience here. I can’t complain too much, but, as someone else noted, the price is a little high. However, the atmosphere, which feels like an upper-end steakhouse, seems to suggest that it would be fairly pricey. But I tried this place because it was listed as a Mexican restaurant on Unilocal, not because of its meat, which other reviewers seem to like. The enchiladas, though diverse in selection, were a bit dry and, frankly, oddly flavored. It is as if too much or perhaps too little effort was devoted to building the flavor profile for the enchiladas, or maybe I just came on an off night, and they just settled for whatever the taste was right then, in the middle of the experimental process. Another oddity, which a fellow reviewer observed, was that the place was not very busy on Friday night, despite being next to the highway at a very busy intersection between the mall and the road leading to KMart, Marshall’s, Gold’s Gym, etc. So I am also left wondering why? I will certainly return to try out their steak and, hopefully, upgrade this review and find out why the restaurant isn’t busier.

The margarita was better than expected, as was the dinner buffet. Generally speaking the staff were helpful and cheerful. Will probably return on a future business trip down to Brownsville when I need a third option other than the Oyster Bar and the Vermillion.

This is a nice establishment and the staff are on point. I partook in the rib-eye, quail and spinach salad with vinaigrette. The food was great, the quail knocked it out of the park, the rib eye was cooked exactly as order-medium rare. I’d come back next time I am in for work.

Prompt service, good atmosphere, clean space, good food, not sure why it’s not busier! Check this place out!

Have been there a few times and was very satisfied with food. Very disappointed with my over cooked fajita on my last visit. Although waitress offer to give me a new plate, I was running late and I refused it –would have preferred to be right the irst time-. I will give a second opportunity next time before I give up. Little pricey too!
