I work construction in Ashland and was looking for just a Simple, affordable, good food, friendly place to eat lunch without the Ashland Hype and expense. Always a lunch special and a different home made soup everyday. The food here is great all the way from a simple grilled cheese sandwich to the Prime Rib. Great food and friendly staff make this Ashland’s best hidden secret. Best waitress in the business!!!

We live in Ashland and there are a couple of places for good for breakfast, this is not one of them. When you overhear the short orders cooks in the back while they are smoking complaining about the owner and how they hate working there, it is apparent they clearly do not care about the preparation of the food. The food was either under-cooked or overcooked and there was no attention to detail about the preparation, it was just made. When I ordered eggs over medium the chicken embryo screamed when you cut into the egg, over easy is an understatement about how these where broken and placed on my plate. While in distress about the meal just served, our waitress saw it appropriate to lean against the back of our both talking about how she has worked there for 8-years –loudly– to an older 80+ couple, she also went on about how her new boy friend just got out of prison. She was so loud and making it a point about her new love affair the whole dining area was a guest to her personal life, it was hard to swallow our food over her remarks and the embryo’s screaming. Zero, and I mean ZERO respect for customers. I asked for the manager and a tall man came from the back –I think where their bar is– and I explained my disappointment with the food and the help. He then went on a tirade about how he was the owner, that the person we were complaining about worked there for 8-years and that she was a good employee. He then asked us to leave his establishment as if we were being inconsiderate and rude. When we left, there is a patio space in the back of the bar and I had to take a peek in. In my 60 seconds of observation I witnessed two drug deals go down, people smoking pot and the cooking crew taking breaks talking about how they hated working there, this is all before noon. I made a personal trip back the next day just to see how this bar was run. When I arrived at the bar there was no bartender, literally. There where people waiting for drinks and no one to service them. I must have waited 15 minutes before someone came out, again it was the owner. After complaining about why it took so long to get a beer, and how if we was going to bar tend at least he could leave a sign saying he would be back, he unkindly kicked me out 86 me out of his bar and told me not to come back. Bad food, poor service, locals dealing drugs in the bar and an owner that kicks people out because he cannot take a bit of constructive criticism; does not get any worst. Go to Denny’s, at least they have protocol for cooking their food. This place is run like a disorganized zoo. Avoid it at all costs!

Not a bad place the problem is the food sucked! Started out with a bowl of minestrone soup, seems as though the cook emptied the entire stock of salt into the soup. When I pushed it to one side the waitress said«too salty?» Guess I was not the only one. Baked potato only half cooked, tried to break it up a bit with my knife and fork but gave up on that. My steak was cooked correctly but the cook(if you can call him that) had coated the entire steak with black pepper — thanks but I prefer to season my own food. I’m a local and wanted to eat here because of the extensive menu, guess that plan didn’t work out.

I stopped here quite a few times when driving up from California and the food here is pretty good. I had some excellent service and enjoyed the tri tip salad.

Was here a few months ago for work, on that visit we had excellent service! Food was typical diner food, could take it or leave it. Returned this time with family in a holiday road trip. Convenient location. After this trip, we won’t return. Waitress was very pleasant but lacked skills in service. Food was inconsistent. Dad ordered tortilla soup while the rest of us opted for broccoli cheese soup. A table seated after us and who ordered after us also ordered a bowl of tortilla soup. Gentleman at other table was served and dad was told they were now out of tortilla soup. He opted for broccoli cheese. The soup was pretty good, that’s about where the good ended. I had the grilled cheese, it was so charred I couldn’t eat it, a real shame, with all that Jack and tillamook cheese it should have been wonderful. Dad ordered fish, ASITWASSERVED, he was told they were out of tartar sauce. Not given the option to change his meal or anything. Burger which was ordered medium was sent out more than well, it was pretty charred. Wife and I each had wine, sat with empty glasses for over 10 minutes before flagging said waitress down to request a second glass. After the meal, dad asked for Marion berry pie, sorry, they were out. He opted for a different pie. The waitress failed to ask anyone else at the table if they wanted dessert. Brought our check then went back to wrap silverware. By now we had been in the restaurant for a LONG time, took forever to get our food, bill was sitting on table with my credit card, she had to have seen it there. Not sure if we were SUPPOSED to go to register or not, which is fine, but it was unclear. We aren’t a picky crowd, will deal with meh food or meh service, but both and we won’t be back.

We stopped in here for breakfast before going on a tour of Southern Oregon University. I enjoyed the old cabin feel but it was not outdated. The service was awesome. The waitress was very attentive and extremely friendly. The food was cooked perfect. There was not one bad thing about this meal. We will definitely stop here again if OSU is the final choice. Thank you for a great meal.

I’m a local and live nearby, so I would love to have a convenient place to meet friends, but have never gone back after I was severed oatmeal with MEALWORMS(!) in it a number of years ago. The manager’s reaction was blasé: «oh that happens»…actually, NO. If I could give this place a minus-5 stars I would. Blows me away there are any positive reviews.

We stopped at this restaurant for breakfast. The place was clean with a country feel. The server was prompt and kept my coffee cup filled. Server kept checking on us and suggested the special basil based eggs– benedict. The food and service were both good and very well worth the price.

A nice place to stop after a long day of driving. Real down home feel with a lot of regulars and good old fashioned American food! Really friendly service. Portions are huge. Would definitely stop here again when passing through.

Staying at the Best Western and decided to walk over to the Oak Tree because it was so convenient. I saw«New» Pot Roast on the menu and asked the waitress if it was good. She said she really liked it. As it turns out, I did not. Unfortunately it was a clump of fatty yuckiness! It also came with a steamed vegetable medley that consisted of both mushy and dried out offerings… The calamari appetizer tasted okay by looked and tasted more like large clams. Odd. Overall, the service was good, but the food was less than mediocre. I wish I had just gotten in the car and drove to a better restaurant. I definitely will not return the next time I am in town…

I can’t say about other meals of the day but their breakfast was fantastic. Everyone in my party of four got something different and everything was fantastic. The service was fast and friendly. Coffee was strong. What more could you ask for, for breakfast? Also definitely get a biscuit. They are not frozen ones. Great place. Especially if you’re staying at the best western in the same parking lot. Short walk to much better food than the free«breakfast» the hotel provides.

I’ve eaten here several times, so this review is only for my latest experience at Oak Tree. I brought my parents here last Sunday. It was the perfect time of morning, about 9, when people were still in church so the restaurant was not too busy. We were seated promptly and ordered coffee. The food runner who brought it over to us poured it before bringing it over to our table, resulting in spilled coffee all over the sides of our mugs and on our table. No apology and she did not offer to clean it up. After pondering the menu, we ordered. Chicken fried steak for my mom, Cinnamon French Toast combo for my dad, and the Texas skillet for me. For a place that wasn’t too busy, it took forever for a person to notice our cups of coffee were low, we finally flagged someone down for a refill. We also waited a good 25 minutes for our food to come out. This place is usually so prompt, even when they are busy. I saw my skillet on the counter, sitting, waiting, while 2 other orders went out to other tables. When our whole ticket was finally ready and delivered to us, my meal was just over room temp… but at this point I was so hungry I was not going to send it back. I have had this before, and it is a «go to» for me. Love the house smoked sausage in it. My dad’s French Toast was obviously made with a Wonder Bread equivalent — you know, thin, and small slices of bread. Basically — we could have made French Toast at home that was way better. He said the best part of his meal was the bacon; crisp and cooked perfectly. My mom’s meal was yummy. The chicken fried steak was crunchy, cooked perfectly, and the gravy was not too salty. We, again, waited forever for someone to notice us so we could get more coffee and ask for water. For as many people as there were working, we did not receive the best service. I will still come back, though I will probably go to the bar side as I always have great service there. It was just a bummer experience… so many staff and so little customers that we received mediocre food and mediocre service.

My husband and I quit eating here about ten years ago because of the poor service and even worse food. We would always sit on the bar side, order dinner and a cocktail and watch sports. I decided today that I would give it another try. I met my adult daughters there for my oldest daughter’s birthday lunch(her choice). I walked in, was greeted by the bartender, and had to wait ten minutes to order a drink(there were four other people in the bar). The cob salad I ordered arrived with wilted lettuce and the chicken so over cooked that I couldn’t even eat it. At first glance I thought I was popping a croûton in my mouth. I sent it back, and they did comp it, but I won’t be eating here again. There are to many quality restaurants in Ashland to eat at. I won’t be wasting my time here.

Sincerely warm and great service. The food is what you expect at a kitschy diner. Not a place for people who don’t like butter!

So my family and i are from the Bay Area and driving to Seattle, this was our first stop for dinner on friday night 7⁄11. We were greeted by very friendly hosts. Our waitress, i didnt get her name but shes pretty and has a piercing on her high right cheek. Her service was the best, always checked up on us, jokin around, and givin us big beautiful smiles. When the food came out it was fresh and smelled deliciuos. I ordered the rodeo burger and it was very satisfying. The homemade bbq sauce is a must get! After we ate all our delicious, awesome, and flavorful food. I left my heart on the table for her and wen we left she had a huge smile. Hopefully she remembers me. And we came back on Sunday but she wasnt working but we still ate there.

We stopped here both on our way in & out of OR on a road trip. Both meals were great as was the service. Prices are OK for breakfast, but you get a good amount of food and it is served fresh. The biscuits are wonderful and if you like biscuits I would suggest ordering one. They charged a mere 70 cents for a nice side of gravy too– which was nicely flavored. On the way back I had the waffle which was really thin and crispy-mmmmmmm. Easy to get in & out of. Simple. I also appreciated that the nice server let me substitute fruit for bread and potatoes for the breakfast order I had. We decided on our OR trips that this would be our food stop from now on. I think she said they were open 24⁄7.

The service was 4 star, very attentive, friendly and helpful. What I ordered was a let down. Flavorless, grey, fatty roast beef with luke-warm au jus for a french dip… just not what I was hoping for. The fries were good and they let me sample their soups which were pretty good. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing on the menu, but I probably won’t try again.

We were driving up I-5 for the better part of the day and desperately needed a lunch break at 2:30pm. We didn’t want to resort to fast food and thankfully found this place on the GPS. We walked in to the ‘Grill’ side, passed the lovely blue aquarium and saw that there was only one table of patrons. That got us a little worried but we were too hungry to find another place at that point. Anyways, I ordered the chicken tenders with BBQ sauce with a salad side and my partner ordered the bacon cheeseburger with curly fries. Sounded like there was only one person manning the kitchen, but the food came out fairly quickly. Man, I didn’t expect the food to be so good. The chicken tenders were perfectly crunchy on the outside and juicy, tender and flavorful on the inside. The BBQ sauce was what sealed the deal. amazing smoky flavor with a nice spicy kick! I tried to ask them what brand of BBQ sauce they use and the guy in the kitchen said they probably make their own because it’s in an unnamed bucket… suspicious to say the least, but who cares, it’s delicious! My partner also didn’t have any complaints about his burger(because it’s got bacon!), and the fries were great as well. Verdict is, found good food in the middle of nowhere.
