Tropical Iceland

I should have known from the always-​emptiness of this place that it wasn’t going to be that great, but the pictures looked SO tantalizing I HAD to get it!
I got the «Mango with Mango Sorbet and milky shave ice (made with frozen nonfat milk – extremely fluffy!)» Sounds SOOO ‘ono, right? Wrong! After the initial hysterically ravenous 2 bites, I realized that the frozenness was covering up for the Extreme Freezerburn Taste. Yuck!
The sorbet was kinda grainy and tasted of high fructose syrup, and the mango chunks were not fresh! They were sitting in canning syrup or something, and too Mushy to feed to anything but your toothless oba-​san. Not pleasant. Plus, the mango somehow caught the freezerburn taste as well.
I should’ve known when she scooped the shave ice with an ice cream scoop from a bucket that it wasn’t going to be good. Definitely not $ 7 good. The girl working the counter was sweet, and I can’t fault her customer service, but food is all about the product, ESPECIALLY if you’re forking over $ 7 for a shave ice!
On the Kapiolani side of Ala Moana by McDonald’s, Territorial Savings, etc. Will not go back.

I went to the one in the Royal Hawaiian a while ago and i really liked it. It came in cool bowls, and the fruit were sweet and refreshing! So good on a nice hot day in Waikiki! So when I saw that they had one in Ala Moana I told my friend that we HAD to stop in.
It was nice in there, bigger than the other location and the staff, while new, was really nice and offered samples. They had a special where the smoothies were buy one get one free, but the only options they had for smoothies were banana, mango, and strawberry. However, the girl at the counter said she could mix the flavors if we wanted to.
We ended up getting a banana smoothie, mango smoothie, and the small size azuki bean shave ice with green tea ice cream. It all came out to about $ 10, and tasted good, nothing special. I think if you come here for the first time you have to try something with fruit, to make this place special than others.
The only thing I didn’t like about this place was that they didn’t serve the shave ice in the cool bowls like the pictures. Not like that’s something to complain about, but hey if that’s how it looks in the picture, that’s how i want it!
