It may be cheap, when you eat inside Tivoli. That said the only amazing thing about Viften is that they can prepare food without any taste at all. GI other places in Tivoli.

Finding a bargain meal inside Tivoli Gardens is no easy task. I must have traipsed around the park at least twice before settling in at Viften. Now this place doesn’t really offer bargains, but compared to the fancier eateries hugging the lake, this would suffice since it was quickly ticking toward the closing hour. I figured Viften had to be cheaper because it looks like a greenhouse — big floor-to-ceiling windows that allow you to peer inside to all the café tables for two crowded together(see photo). No wait staff since it is a cafeteria set-up, and they serve quite a selection of food from Danish smørrebrød(open-faced sandwiches) to salads to schnitzel to steak. Now understand I flew in from Berlin and had not eaten since breakfast when I had a couple of pint-size quiche slices hours before. So I ordered the Entrecôte Steak, which was a hefty slab accompanied by peas and sliced potatoes and tomatoes(see photo). I think the concept of «medium-rare» is lost in Denmark because it came out on the tough side. But hey, I was hungry, and they were sweeping up, so I didn’t turn into an ugly American tourist. I ordered a large glass of Diet Coke and managed to get out of there for 130DKK(Danish krone), which converts to about $ 23. Like I said, it was really no bargain, but Copenhagen, I soon discovered, is not a cheap town. FOOD — 3 stars… a decent steak, a little tough but probably the most reasonable dinner in the park AMBIANCE — 3.5 stars… the view of the lake is nice SERVICE — 3 stars… it was cafeteria-style so not much to comment about TOTAL — 3 stars… if you need to eat in Tivoli and don’t have an arm and a leg to amputate…
