The Coq au vin and spatzle main dish is my favorite! I love the crispness of both the chicken as well as the buttery spatzle. Staff are nice and on point here. Good little restaurant and ambience.

Very sorry to hear the news. One of my fave spots. Overall great staff and great food. Disappointing.

My husband, my mother in law and I decided to give this restaurant a try tonight and unfortunately we were not impressed with the food. The creole mussels were not full of flavor and the caesar salad was nice enough. I ordered the lamb and it was blaaaand but it was cooked just the way I had asked. My husband had the short ribs and again this dish was bland. My mother in law had the halibut and it honestly tasted like something you would get at the supermarket. No taste and a little over cooked. Our waiter was fantastic and was really the saving grace of this restaurant. Unfortunately, we won’t be coming back.

We took some friends here for brunch today and I was disappointed. My first issue with good wolf is that they lack consistency. I.e. Eggs Benedict. The menu reads«smoked salmon» eggs Benedict but last time I was there it was served as «smoked steelhead trout.» If you’re serving steelhead trout, don’t call it smoked salmon. Yes, they taste similar but trout and salmon are two different things. Today my friend ordered a chorizo eggs Benedict, her boyfriend ordered smoked bacon Benedict and my husband had the smoked salmon(read: trout) Benedict. I ordered a yogurt parfait to nurse a doozy of a hangover. Friend 1: not chorizo, but actually breakfast sausage patties. Friend 2: smoked… back bacon, maybe, but it looked and tasted like a slab of ham Husband: said the English muffin was funky Me: could barely eat my parfait because it was insanely sweet. Service is hit or miss. Today’s girl was bubbly and sweet but last time we barely got two words from the server So, little wolf, I like you I do. I like what you’re trying to do, I like your local farm to table style, but there’s some big points lacking. Start with the consistency and correct representation of your product and I guarantee you’ll find yourself on a new playing field. Til then, I’ll try one of the dozens of brunch spots down the strip.

I am a creature of habit and once i find something i like i tend to stick with it. We tried this place out a week or so ago and wow, loved it! I need to be more adventurous and start exploring new restaurants more often! We had an early dinner and were very well looked after. Inside it is so warm and cosy and i love the open kitchen. The calamari appitiser was spicy and delicious but i did find the crab cake a little bland. I had the lamb for main and when it came out initially i was very worried as id never eaten lamb that rare before but man, it was amazing! My boyfriend had the chicken dish and it was also very tasty. The restaurant filled up very quickly as it was Grey Cup weekend but we never once felt rushed. Add extra cold beer and it was a very enjoyable evening. I cant wait to get back!

Greeted with a knowledgeable and friendly host, my friend and I were seated on the patio and were served water in a tasteful pop top glass bottle. We were lucky enough to have made it for happy hour where everything on the food menu was half price! We ordered the mussels and fries(French style) and the calamari. The mussels and fries came out first and were hands down the best mussels I’ve ever had(I order that same dish everywhere). The mussels were served with diced pork(Lardon or pancetta, not sure) in a delectable cream sauce. The fries were served with a thick spicy aioli which fit perfectly with the rest of the dish. The calamari was executed perfectly. Tender and lightly battered. No rubberiness or overpowering greasy batter here! Definitely will be coming back many times.

My husband and I bought a travelzoo voucher that basically gave us –50% off. The service was awesome. The owners were attentive, our server was hilarious and genuine and actually gave helpful suggestions. We had the tuna tataki and calamari — both delicious. The calamari was kind of like chicken fried squid, I like it. I had the halibut — cooked perfectly. My husband had the duck, not quick cooked past rare, but the staff remedied the under cooked duck quickly. Deserts were delicious. Atmosphere was swell, better than I expected!

OMG, this place has the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Some places have really good fish and bad fries, or good fries and so so fish. But this place has really good fish AND chips!

Burger with cheddar is pretty terrific. Service is professional. Prices are a little loony, I’d do 3 ½ stars if I could but only because of the prices.

½ pound mussels and fries(Indian style) $ 123.5÷5 — in a creamy curry sauce. Went well with the complimentary bread and fries. There were about 13 pieces of mussels which was pretty good for ½ pound. Most of them were big and none of them was empty. ½ pound mussels and fries(French style) $ 123⁄5 — good but nothing too special in a white white sauce. fries 2⁄5 — the fries were thicker than I wanted. The spicy aioli was flavourful. Fried squid, lemon, chill, green onions $ 103.5÷5 — It was a little salty but still acceptable. The funny thing is that the calamari didn’t come with any sauce. I had to dip them into the spicy aioli for the fries. 8 oz Angus Bavette Steak Frites $ 262.5÷5 — gamey beef. No charcoal on the outside. Haida Gwali Halibut, lemon caper Provencal butter, seasonal vegetables $ 263.5÷5 — crispy on the outside and medium rare in the middle. Exactly how I wanted but someone else found it a little undercooked. Came with some asparagus, carrots, and tomatoes. I miss the crispy skin. vanilla and ginger crème brûlée 3⁄5 — creamy but lots of ginger flavour. Not my cup of tea. apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream 2.5÷5 — I would call this an apple cake instead of apple crumble. There was barely any apple crumble. They also drizzled some caramel sauce on the side of the plate. Service 2⁄5 — Originally my reservation was 3 weeks ago on a Sunday evening. The night before the dinner, I’ve got a voice mail from the restaurant telling me that they have to cancel my reservation. I tried to call the restaurant afterward but no luck. On Tuesday(after their regular day off on Monday), I called the reservation and the girl told me that it was her first day so she had no idea what happened. She asked her manager and she offered us a round of drinks so I rebooked my dinner. The restaurant said they could not find my reservation and they had no idea about the free round of drink. At the very end, we had a little discussion before we got a glass of sparkling. Food took over an hour to show up. Fortunately, the music was not very loud compared to other Yaletown restaurants. We also think they recently changed management because it is now Good Wolf(without the E). It’s not bad given it was a $ 30 groupon dinner but I don’t think it was worth the regular price.

3.5 stars. Cute restaurant with a nice ambiance and décor. If you’re a fan of 80’s music, you’ll like their playlist. I ordered the steak frites and my friend got the cornish hen(along with the house beer, which was actually very good). My fries came with spicy mayo, which I loved, and a very generous heaping of fries. The steak was a bit chewy but it was cooked to my liking. I got to try my friend’s cornish hen and it was delicious. It was served with a creamy gravy. We didn’t know what spaetzle was, but when dipped in the sauce, it was quite good. The food overall was good, not great, and it was a bit salty. We had great service. Our server was really friendly and funny, and the owner(?) came to check on us multiple times.

It our Friday date night and we decided to try our this place in Yaletown for its great reviews. When we got there, I was delighted with their decors, which reminded me the modern English style restaurant in Europe. It was a busy night for the restaurant, 3 huge tables and a few at the bar. We were seated and we were kindly greeted by our bartender. I was happy at this point but it wouldn’t last long. We order the fresh oyster as starter, Spring lamb tenderloin and Scallop Carbonara. The oyster were fresh and tasty, but lacks of the ‘WoW’ factor to many other restaurant. As for the entrees, I was disappointed by the consistency and efforts of the chefs. The Scallop Carbonara was under season and blend. I can taste the freshness of both the scallop, pasta and the sauce but all three ingredients does not compliment each other. Also, the scallops were a little under-cooked(it’s fresh so I can let it go, sashimi!) and they put too much bacon, which make the dish a little greasy. As for the tenderloin, it lacks the same favor efforts as the pasta, under seasoned and every ingredients were under-cooked to my taste. For a restaurant standard comparisons in Yaletown, I am not a «Happy Camper» that night. A word to the owner, if the chefs can’t handle large groups of orders, don’t try too hard to make the effort. They need to pay more attention to the quality and consistency of the dishes. As for the service, it’s a ok experience to me. The first round of drinks were great but I was disappointed when I ordered by beer. When the bartender was pouring the beer, the beer foamed a lot in the glass. For most bartenders, it mean there is a air trap in the line and they have to «bleed» the line. Secondly, the beer is not cold when she served it to me. Two strike to the beer tap and they should 86’s that beer for the night. However, as I see them, they still served to another customer at the bar and told him they made a great effort of pouring it for him. Another thing, which bartender in town will bash a bag a ice, at the bar top, in front of customers(crush ice for cocktail)? I think it not a great sight to see. Not a great place for a second try, on with the next.

The food here was amazing! I went for brunch with a friend and everything was really great(aside from the super strong coffee, which for me was a little bitter). I ordered the eggs benedict which came with a mountain of hashbrowns(so good!). The service was also top-notch. I can’t wait to go back for dinner!

Coq au vin was delicious! Spaetzel a bit bland, but when mixed with the sauce it was much better. Friends liked their braised beef, even said it was better than the cow au vin. Great service, except when it came to splitting the bill. Very reluctant to. Don’t know why, since it’s so common at other restaurants. The server ended up having one person from our party ring everyone in. One other thing, a combination between be small space and blaring music means it’s very loud inside the restaurant. Can only hear the person sitting next to you. Probably won’t be back, because there’s so many more restaurants to try.

Such a great spot to enjoy dinner with friends. Went here last Saturday for a friend’s birthday and they were very accommodating as they allowed us to choose from either their regular menu or a special 3 course dinner one. Oh I should add that we had 14 ppl in our group. Usually restaurants don’t allow you to choose as most will only give you one menu. I ordered from the 3 course menu: appie was smoked fish chowder, entrée was elk & bison stew and dessert was rice pudding. This was $ 28 menu. The smoked fish was good as the fish wasn’t overpowering the chowder and had a good balance of flavour. The stew was delicious, meat was tender and not as gamey as I thought it would be. Side dish for the stew was this german-style pasta/noodle(sorry can’t remember the name) that went well with the stew, much better than getting potatoes. The rice pudding was ok. It probably didn’t taste as good as it looks because I just ate a piece of chocolate cranberry mousse cake(friend’s bday cake). The portions are reasonable. The waiter was great — super friendly, kept our water glass full, easy going about taking the order, and had nice recommendations for wines. The atmosphere is rustic and comfortable, since it being in an old brick building in Yaletown. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. I can see why it was one of the top new restaurants.

Why oh why did I wait until my last night in Vancouver to come here? Upon arrival, we were greeted at the door by Chef/Owner Josh who instantly joked around with me which made us feel as welcome as going to a good friend’s house. We opted to sit at the bar for cocktails and perhaps a couple appetizers. It also placed us at the center of the establishment which had a very open feel with visibility right into the kitchen. The bartender was absolutely fantastic. He was attentive to our needs, especially my friend’s many food allergies and dietary restrictions. He was able to give us detailed information about how dishes were prepared and what ingredients were locally sourced and from where. Additionally, he shared some random history and facts about many other things that came up in conversation. He makes excellent old fashioneds — I’m a big fan. We had the charcuterie which was excellent. Great steak tartare. We also had a couple dozen oysters. My only gripe about the entire evening was that our tray was taken away from us with one oyster still left to be eaten. Oops. We also had the delicious seafood chowder poutine that I’ve previously enjoyed off his food truck. Overall, I think the place is slightly pricey, but has great service and great food. Now that I’ve moved away from Vancouver, I’m putting this on my list to return to when I visit again soon.

Reasonably priced(for Yaletown) joint, fairly new and conveniently located on Mainland. I found the service reasonably friendly and welcoming, and our server engaged in our pretty random conversation. As for food, I had the Chicken-fried Oyster Burger with the seafood chowder poutine as a side. As a fair warning, it’s definitely not the lightest of lunches, so be warned. I was expecting a healthy serving of chowder on my fries but I guess that’s how Good Wolfe does it. Likely I’ll try something else on the menu next time.

Brunch is one of those simple items that is so often screwed up. After a few fantastic lunches and dinners at GW, thought I would give brunch a try with some friends visiting from out of town. It wasn’t too busy, which made it relaxing, service was attentive but not overbearing. The meal was as good as my former visits. First the hash browns, BEST I have ever had, and HB’s are typically nothing to get excited about, my poached eggs over hash with shredded short ribs and chorizo, yes it was perfect and order their homemade croissants, flaky, rich, buttery just like France! Go there you will be happy you did!

Welcoming, warm, new YT spot, opened with the wonderful talent of Josh Wolfe from Fresh, Local Wild(a five star fave for me and on my Visiting Van list). While this place has potential, it missed the mark in a few areas: spotty service, and a cold entrée. 3 stars. Too bad as it could have been a 4, if not a 5; if only. Friendly welcome but no food or drink menus in sight. Still no menus or drinks, even when friends arrived 10 minutes later. Strange. We did have resos. and the place still had empty tables. What’s the deal? Recommended to me from the manager was the coq au vin; the entire dish – including the gravy – arrived cool and accompanied by overly fried spaetzle(a delicious fried German noodle for those who haven’t tried it.) Spaetzle was still really addicting and delicious, and I believe this really could have been the best dish, otherwise. Asked them to reheat entrée; forced to eat spaetzle on its own which was odd when it was meant to be eaten with the entrée. Coq au vin returned piping hot and after friends were 2⁄3 done their meal. Friend reported that her salmon shawarma was also cold but decided to eat it anyway. And she’s not usually too picky about her fish. Offered complimentary dessert; Apple donut dessert was recommended. Served overly deep fried and definitely a miss. The thought was there but I would have preferred to have enjoyed my entrée with everyone else, instead. Hits: Braised beef with risotto. coq au vin(if hot), squid, artichoke dip,(amazing), spaetzle, Burrowing Owl by the glass – wonderful! They know their wines! Ok: Terrine(not listed on the menu. New item?) They tried hard with service, but it seemed a bit disjointed and inattentive. Still, I appreciated the efforts of the waitstaff in the end. Miss: Scallop crudo as others have said and overpriced at $ 13 for 2 thinly shaved scallops,(should have more carefully read the review), Pink Salmon shawarma(boring with surprisingly little flavour), Apple pie dessert(had way better deconstructed versions of this at other places; overly deep fried.) Would not order any of these things again. I «might» return to give them another chance, but I’d like to see them work out the kinks first.

To start, the steelhead pastrami appetizer was a light, flavourful dish. The house terrine with the best mini baguettes was also a winner. For veggie lovers, the ratatouille lasagna was lasagna sans the pasta(so glutton free). It was definitely smooth, rich, and intriguing, even for a carnivore. Their hot smoked BC salmon was delightful in its smokey composition. The salmon was crisp on top with a nice caramelized texture and taste. It’s hard to beat the braised beef cheek served on country style risotto with its rich, tender flavour and all-around goodness. The beef was so moist and scrumptious as a definite highlight. As well, the lemon cake for dessert was a sugary, lavender treat.
