The Loft Urban Salon

Came for a wedding hair cut and George was fabulous. I told him how i wanted to be able to style my hair in a number of ways and he suggested a style and it turned out perfectly. George shampooed my hair and massaged my head at the same time, it was fantastic! He took his time and showed me different styles I could use. I highly recommend George as your stylist at The Loft Urban Salon.

I see previous reviews for the Loft and Le Spa weren’t carried over, so here goes!
I’ve been a consistent customer of TLUS — in all its forms — since 2009. I had my wedding hair/​, makeup done here (shout out to Sim and Gina) and took the plunge and traded in my shoulder-​length waves for a faux hawk/​pixie (Gina again and the fabulous and talented Jenna). I was introduced to waxing here, and I have had quarterly facials here with Sophie since 2008. I cannot recommend the Loft team enough, (Kuduos to Bruno and Paul for everything they do in the community. I consider them cherished neighbours as well as a business) but this review will focus on my two faves: Sonia and Sophie.
SONIA IS BAAAAACK! After a 2.5 year leave, the best waxer in town is back (see my previous reviews). Master of the 3 minute brazilian (who wants to suffer longer??) has reclaimed her loft studio at 429 Maclaren, and I saw her today and she’s still AMAZING! If you’re looking for some summer grooming (it can happen so faaast!!) you’ve come to the right place and your timing couldn’t be better. She books up fast, so get on it! I can recommend both her bikini AND her brazilian waxes. I saw her almost every month for 5 years, and you can ask her anything — that’s the kind of loyalty she inspires.
Sophie’s facials are a major treat. She doesn’t just cover your skin with goop and wipe it off with warm washcloths and charge you 90 $ for an hour. She views her role more as a clinician and takes it very seriously. She is extremely competent, attuned to whether you want to chat or relax. SHe’s funny and personable and honest. She knows a ton about skin and she will give you extra time if you need it. The thing I appreciate about her most is her attention to extractions. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, she will get them all! As she gets to know your skin care needs, she’ll patiently make recommendations and give tons of samples in a non-​pushy way. After years of struggling with combination and acnaic skin and trying a bunch of samples, I bit the bullet and bought three Dermalogica products over the past 4 months and have seen some improvements. My facial this past Tuesday was yet another example of her careful technique. She used the steamer repeatedly during the treatment — something I’ve never seen elsewhere (see previous reviews).
Having originally joined Unilocal to find out about good waxing salons, I can tell you I have completely stopped looking or even been willing to try other salons for facials or waxings because I know I’d be in for disappointment. The Loft Urban Salon has an incredible team and excellent customer service. I’ve tried a lot of salons in Ottawa-​Gatineau over the years. I’m lucky TLUS is in my neighbourhood, but even if they weren’t I’d drive miles to get the calibre of services they offer.

I have been going to Le Spa ever since it opened. I’ve have had my hair done variously by the Bruno, Nathalie and Pearl. They are all totally awesome. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. They are the best!

I’ve been going to Le Spa for years and can’t recommend it highly enough.
Great atmosphere, fantastic service and very skilled stylists and estheticians — what more could a girl want. Really.

I’ve been seeing Nathalie at Le Spa for over 6 years now and I’m a devoted follower. She gives me an excellent cut each and every time and guides me through style transitions. I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment.
To boot, she’s just a pleasure to chat with during the appointment. She remembers all the details about my kids — I swear she writes this stuff down but she denies it!

When I get my hair cut I want the whole package. I want a chic looking place that serves me espresso, wine or sparkling water. Of course I also want a good hairdresser and reasonable prices. Le spa has been fab so far. I’ve just started seeing Amy there and she really knows her stuff. Giving her honest opinion and great recommendations. The only thing negative that I’ve noticed that last few times I had a cut was that she was running behind and I’d have to wait… not sure if it’s just bad timing on my part where the previous customer comes in late, but I’m going to mention it if it happens again. Other than that I totally recommend. Although I’ve only had my hair done there, I hear the spa treatments are luxurious!
