Hair Essentials

I had been trying different salons for a while. I would go to one place once and then another place the next time because I couldn’t find a stylist I really liked. Then, probably about 7 or 8 years ago, I went to Hair Essentials and found the perfect stylist for me. I’ve been going to see Dorothy ever since and she always does a wonderful job. She’s caring, fun to talk with, and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to hair care. I even recommended her to my mother who now also sees her regularly and loves her as well.
That being said, how good a hairstylist is, is often a matter of opinion. Someone who is excellent to me, may be just average to someone else. So, here’s more of the review of the store in general:
The prices at Hair Essentials are average, about $ 40 for a wash, cut, and blow dry. They also have tons of hair care products available to buy, although I find the products to be slightly overpriced and so I buy elsewhere.
The reception staff is always very friendly and good at booking appointments so you don’t end up waiting when you arrive for your appointment. It is very small, with the boat six stations but the space is well managed, it is not cramped or overcrowded. Plus, it is always clean.
I took off one star because of the hours. They are open until 6 PM Monday to Friday and until 5 PM on Saturday, which is normal for most of the stores on Bank Street but it can be inconvenient for people who work during the day.

I’ve had my hair cut here at least every couple months for the past ten plus years or so.
Always pleased with my haircuts, colour, highlights and everything here. Very resonable in price too.
I will have to take off one star as lately almost every time I wanted to get a haircut they were completely booked. It is a fairly small salon with 6 stations I think.
It is not huge like the salons downtown or fancy like the mall places– but I like how they have tons of brands of hair color when some salons just stock one brand.
Also not sure they are open past 6pm and that might not be helpful if you are busy all day. Closed sundays, as well!

I went to hair essentials for a hair cut yesterday. I have long hair and for the cut it only cost $ 35. Kaly cut my hair and I am pretty satisfied with the cut, although as with almost all hair dressers when they say ½ inch, they’ll cut 1 inch. So it was a little shorter than I wanted especially since I am growing out my hair.
But the price was great and this place also sells every brand of hair products and professional permanent hair dye for super cheap. I was super impressed by the selection and amazing prices at this place. I didn’t get pressured at all to buy anything, but I know I will be going back to purchase my hair and beauty needs here.
