This is a terrible place to live for a nonsmoker. Everyday, my bathroom stinks of cigarette smoke and a couple of times a week the whole apartment stinks of cigarette smoke. I really can’t stand it. I would love living here if it weren’t for the poor construction of the building. The internal insulation between units is very poor. Also, all of our favorite employees in the management office keep quitting. I think they can’t handle being under our least favorite person to deal with. She is majorly cheap. She mentioned to me once that if it were up to her, she would make people pay for their own window blinds, which are provided in the units. And now, coffee in the lounge that used to be free, is for $ 1. I never drank the coffee when it was free, but I liked that they were trying to create a nice environment. I am sure that this stingy manager is behind the $ 1 charge. Otherwise, everyone who works security is great and friendly. And stuff does get fixed more or less on time. Regardless, we are itching to leave. Can’t wait until our lease runs out.

We moved into Hillcrest Place executive townhouses December 2014 and the staff here is extremely friendly and helpful. The property is well maintained and any repairs we’ve needed done have been taken care of in a prompt and professional manner. We are moving back to BC in July and are so happy with Midwest that we have decided to stay renting from them. Lynn in Edmonton was extremely helpful with walking us through the transfer process and Tia in Port Moody has been really nice. The whole transfer process has been incredibly easy and we are looking forward to moving into Woodlands town-homes and continuing our tenancy with Midwest.

Edmonton House is the best place I’ve ever lived! I’ve had the opportunity to live in all the major condominiums in Edmonton and can now truly appreciate what a wonderful place Edmonton House is to stay. The Staff at Midwest Property Management are second to none. Their service and attitude shines above any property manager I have seen in the industry. They are fair, transparent, attentive, and they genuinely care about their clients. The concierge service at Edmonton House is also a huge perk. Whether you need your laundry done or need to give someone access to your suite, the concierge is always there to assist you. No more waiting from 8AM to 5PM for the cable guy to show up! They’ll take care of that for you! The facilities are constantly being improved and are truly quite amazing. The pool is wonderful, the gym is completely modern with brand new equipment that isn’t even a year old and they even offer yoga to their residents twice a week! Plus they have a resident lounge with an immaculate view! The location of the building cannot be any better. Your parking stall is accessible from Bellamy Hill, the river valley, and 102nd Street. This saves me hours a month in fighting traffic when going to and from my home. The South facing suites of the building boast some of the best views of the city’s river valley, all at a competitive price. When I consider the level of value I get from living in Edmonton House, I couldn’t imagine buying a condo or renting anywhere else. As a busy young executive, this building truly complements my lifestyle and makes my life easier, whether I have meetings downtown, need to save time on daily tasks, or just want to enjoy the downtown lifestyle. If you are a young professional and are looking for the best place to stay in the city, you found it!

It sounds dramatic, but I can’t wait to be done with our rental company in Edmonton. We moved in at the end of July, after juggling a few different schedules. I moved from Calgary to my parents’ house, then from my parents’ to the new place over two weeks. My boyfriend came down the week after that. Everything was great, but we started to notice that we could hear every word from our neighbours… and man they were loud! The first neighbours we had were a couple with 2 – 3 kids. Kids screaming at kids, parents screaming at parents, parents screaming at kids… we heard it all. And I’m not exaggerating when I say word for word. Then winter came, and our heat did not. The lack of insulation between the units apparently stretched around the outer walls as well. I’ve written about the heating problem before, and the only other thing I can say about this is thank goodness it was a mild winter or we would have been frozen or in the poor house. The rental company is aware of the issue, but because the units were built to code when they were constructed, the company is under no obligation to update them to the *new* code. The insulation in our walls had biodegraded over the years, so it was basically nothing but sawdust left. Before my boyfriend and I knew that we would be moving back to Calgary, we got our lease renewal notice. The rent would increase by $ 100, $ 200 if we chose to go month-to-month. With properties in the area about $ 200 cheaper(than the new price) including some utilities, this seemed outrageous. After we learned we were moving, I said as much to the woman asking why we were leaving. The icing on the cake would be the events that transpired this weekend. I had scheduled the move out inspection for Saturday at 4:30. I’d emailed the manager, and she confirmed Saturday at 4:30(after phoning me Tuesday asking to make arrangements again…). I arrived early on Saturday to let in the steam cleaners for the carpets, and when I got to the door I noticed that my mailbox had been taken down and placed inside the unit. This is a huge issue because not only was I not notified that someone would be entering my unit, my mail was sitting on the front steps. My bank statements were there for the world to see for God knows how long. I don’t care if the unit is clean and empty, and it looks like no one is living there. According to the lease, that is my unit and my address until July 31. So what is my mailbox doing inside without my knowledge or permission? I was irritated, but planned on bringing it up at the inspection. I came back to my parents’ house, ran some errands, took a snooze, then left to be back at the unit at 4:30. I let myself in and waited… and waited… and waited. By 4:50, I thought something was very wrong, and I had been calling the manager since 4:35. No answer. I phoned the office of the high rise across the street, and was told that my appointment was for 4:00, not 4:30, and that the gentleman had been there and no one was present to do the walkthrough with him. So, it was marked that it was completed as he took a look around and determined it was finished. Wrong. You do not do a move out inspection without the tenant present. You don’t. The guy I spoke to was rude and unyielding, and I hung up the phone very, very frustrated. He told me to take it up with my property manager on Monday, and I hopped in my car to carry on with my plans while trying to figure out a way to arrange another walk through before the end of the month. I was a few blocks away when I got a call from our property manager saying she just spoke to the gentleman that I did, and he would meet me at the unit if I was still willing! He told me on the phone that there’d be no way he’s going back because he was there on time and I was not. So I turned around and went back into the unit to wait ANOTHER20 minutes for the move out team to arrive. A man and two women appeared to conduct the inspection, and the women immediately started looking around without introducing themselves, speaking in a language I couldn’t understand. I was very, very uncomfortable. I apologized to the gentleman for my attitude on the phone, and he didn’t seem to care. I brought up the mailbox issue, and he said he knew nothing about that, that he didn’t work for the site that we were on and he wasn’t even supposed to be working today. Never again.
