Ok, I don’t know why this place advertises as Bangladeshi street food, as this food was a far cry from«street» and more like a modern high end interpretation of Bangladeshi food. Went here on a hot Valentines day weekend for dinner and the place was packed with a queue out the door when we left. The tables are quite close together as its a small place so you can easily hear each other tables conversation, and not much privacy. And it got quite stuffy after a while– the place needs air con! However the décor, service and staff were excellent. The food was also really good. Nice and light overall, which is unusual for this type of food. The Kale Bhajis were a great twist on an old favourite, the grape and bean salad was fresh and light(love fruit in a salad), and the duck curry was creamy and tender. The nuts in the paper cone were not shelled, so we’re just peanuts in a paper cone but for $ 2 and for charity guess that was ok.(In India they are shelled and roasted). The pappadams were spiced and baked(?) which made them crunchy but a bit heavy, almost stale tasting(though they weren’t). The cocktails(I had a WaterLily) were brilliantly described on the menu and tasted great as well. The Bang Pale Ale was not available the night we went. The end result? Would love them to put out a cookbook, but prob not in a rush to go again to the restaurant.

Popped in here for a Saturday lunch. It was pretty empty and we scored a nice seat. The décor is pleasant and the staff were very friendly. A shared food theme is professed by the staff and we took their word for some items on the menu. I was here with a friend and we had something that was a variant on curry puffs, which was decent. We also had a calamari dish(which I thought was okay) and the main was a goat curry which I thought was very good. The bill ended up being $ 66 for 2 people. I should add that the staff were attentive and were coming to our table regularly to see how things were. It was a toss between 3 and 4 stars, I can revise this review once I have come and seen things on a busy night(so, 3 a the moment).

I came here for a work dinner last week off the back of a recommendation from one of my former colleagues, so I was really excited to give it a try. We were a large-ish group, so we decided to go for the banquet menu since it would be the easiest thing to eat. Can’t remember all of the dishes we had, but included some type of fried puff, some grilled paneer, a grape and snake bean salad, lamb ribs, and goat with rice and naan bread. We also had a little mango treat for dessert. Really unique food and interesting flavours, so if you’re looking for something a bit different i would highly recommend this place. The food was all spot on — but the reason I give this place 3 stars is because I don’t feel like I need to go back again. I didn’t leave thinking WOW I need to come back to this place and eat this one dish again, so that’s why I can’t give it 4 stars. Now having said that, if a friend wanted to check it out I’d be down, as there were some other things on the menu that did look pretty good.

Wow, this place is cool. The tasting menu is unique, definitely an interesting twist on traditional Bangladeshi cuisine. They make a mean(OMG tasty) cocktail. Their service is quick and helpful, all of the staff are super relaxed which definitely puts you in a good mood. I’d suggest maybe the addition of a biriani or some variant of that, which is nearly a staple in any Bangladeshi home. My wife and I really enjoyed this place, we’ll be back soon!

Delicious & interesting food. Not heavy. We had the Bang for Buck fixed menu which was huge and great value. Wagyu curry, salmon and Banana Kulfi were awesome!

popped in for quickie while running around surry hills. food was spicy and good. had the steak taco thing. felt like taiwanese scallion pancake over a skirt steak with hot sauce. very nice. had a bang pale ale as well. yummy. my only regret was not being able to come here with others and trying out 4 more dishes. seemed pricey though.

In four months away from Sydney, Surry Hills is awash in new restaurants and cafés. The buzz(and sometimes sadly, changeover) never seems to stop. I read a few mentions of Bang Street Food on the net, and it took me a little while to figure out where it was located: just above Hudson’s Meats on Crown Street, the other side of where a doomed Japanese restaurant, Monkey Magic, was(and somewhat above the doomed Mexican restaurant, Agave). Here’s the thing: this is definitely a winner. The chef apparently has some serious creds from restaurants like Est. and Lucio’s, the owner(of the Farmhouse in King’s Cross, which I’ve wanted to go to, but seems awfully busy) knows design and how to put together a restaurant. To me, it’s the perfect formula for Sydney(and the Eastern Suburbs): you get a chef to celebrate his cultural background, put a modern Sydney spin on it, serve it up in stylish surroundings with friendly and competent wait staff. I would guess that there’s no other high-end Bangladesh restaurant in Sydney. There seems to be a humble diner in Rockdale and another in Lakemba. It’s exciting for Sydney to receive a completely new cuisine and concept. The paw paw salad(above) was delicious: fresh, sweet and sour. My better half thought there was something missing(salt?) but I rather liked it. Kale bhaji was delicious and crisp. I’ve had a lot of bad bhajis in my time, I tell you, and they can be greasy and the batter sometimes a bit gritty to my taste. We also had a kebab, wagyu beef perfectly done which we got to wrap up in flatbread with some salad greens, saw it in half and split it. The goat curry was exactly as I’d hoped, a rich tasty sauce, super-tender goat, and the lightest pulau rice possible(and some tasty naan). Washed down with an exceptional mango lassi, and a pricy cocktail(flavoured with cardamon and cinnamon). We were just up for a light meal and I’d love to try more(including the desserts) but we’ll definitely be back.
