Besser is a hip, industrial-style venue with nice lighting and the way the place is organised gives you a comfortable impression of space without the emptiness. I like that about a venue, too bad it is a bit noisy. The food is nice: a well-seasoned beef tartare with a hidden heart of straciatella cheese, a fantastic char-grilled octopus according to my friend Adrian and the baked potatoes were nice, though they felt like they had been prepared early then refried. Overall I’d give a 4⁄5 for quality and 3.5 for quantity. However because it doesn’t come with sides and the staff emphasized at several instances that you really needed sides to satisfy your appetite, it feels overpriced. The slightly-high prices and the slightly below-average quantity of the main, and the need to order the sides separately, contributed to an overall feeling of openly paying for a hipster Eastern-suburb lifestyle. Let’s face it we all do it but we don’t like to admit it! It is a shame as I believe this venue could become something great by shaving a couple dollars off its prices and increasing the portions a bit. I still recommend you try it as they deserve your opinion on top of mine. One thing though: next time you make an omelette, use duck fat. A spoon of duck fat a day keeps the doctor away!

Noise level was very high so have that in mind when you go. It’s a hip new place so make sure you book or come early to secure a table. Service was good. The pasta was delicious. We had the leather jacket and it was delicious. The mead dish was also amazing. The beef was cooked to perfection. For entrée we had chickpeas broth with squid and mussels and they were amazing! For dessert we had poached pear on a bed of biscuit crumbs and Campari ice cream. It’s so light and delicious. My fave dessert in all of Sydney now.

Meat that’s the only thing you get in your plate when you order a meal(pushing for side dishes), one star for the waitress which did her job and came to us with the courage of saying what her Chef told her to say about the hair in my salad. So the explanation is that carrots have black hair. So we ordered a veal Milanese, you only get the veal with half a lemon($ 29) and an Ossobuco($ 29) with a side(I was really told to get because the meat comes on its own), carrots and kale salad(dried kale with a few little carrots maybe one special one with hair if you’re lucky for $ 14). tl;dr a rip off in the rules, will never go back there again.

A great dining experience, all meals were good or excellent with the risotto, gnocchi turkey and Veal Milanese being the best. All dishes are meant for sharing, but it’s not compulsory. A little noisy as that do pack them in.
