Loved the pork and grape dish! Death by Chocolate was sensational! Pre dessert icecream awesome! Recipe for the icecream was from 1955 the cone was fried and had a very crispy sweet crunch to it. We had 3 course meal, expecting second course to be bigger but it was sufficient once we finished. Each meal was delicate nicely plated. Atmosphere is set for couples, the evening was filled with couples, we didn’t see any groups or families. They do free still and sparking water here.

I’m sorry I had to give this place 4 stars and not 5! My first ever degustation experience happened to be better than this place, despite how excellent the service, food and ambience was! So at the moment, this is my 2nd favourite. We came in on Valentines Day with a booking at 6pm. They recommend 2 – 3 hours to fully enjoy the courses. We got out a little after 8:30pm and couples were still being seated with late bookings. On welcome, I received a red rose and glass of sparkling. Very nice addition for Valentines Day. They were able to cater for my low fodmap dietary requirements. Very much appreciated. The most memorable dishes for me was the pork belly, house cured salmon and death by chocolate. Literally death by chocolate. I had a strong negroni cocktail. The home made gluten free bread was so fillung and uniquely flavoured. I don’t actually like beef but the beef they served was very palatable for me. The only drawback was because I can’t have mushrooms they substituted it with beetroot jelly and salad artfully decorated, it seemed an unfair exchange for the entrée soup. The pictures that decorate the place are mostly arty nudes. Overall, a nice place. Unsure if I’d come again though, it’s only the second degustation place I’ve been to.

Décor is tired and needs a major overhaul. My seat was so flogged out that I was unsure it would actually hold me. The 10 course New Years degustation was largely a disaster other than the desert end of the menu which was delicious. The cheese landscape dish was a mess and did not work. The«foam» which accompanied some meals was awful and literally was like eating washing-up liquid suds. Similarly the tea-cleanser looked like lemon dish washing liquid and then actually tasted like that. The lamb dish of minced & pressed lamb looked like dog food. Main was such a let down, the chef actually served more Beetroot than steak so the meat was completely over powered by the abundance of Beetroot! Left feeling really flat and let down by the meal. Expected more for $ 170 per person

I cannot describe how delicious this dinner was! Definitely fine dining with the degustation menus, wine list and attentive service. My mum was thrilled that we were celebrating her birthday here. One of my favourite places in Perth.

In French they call it a «double entendre», or double meaning. So, if you’re going to name a restaurant Petite Mort, knowing that it hides behind the cheeky French reference for a sexual orgasm, do remember that some of us can«franglais» the translation: «little death». So which one was it? Last year I celebrated my wedding anniversary at Restaurant Amuse and there too, we had the degustation menu. Petite Mort had a lot to live up to. The food was fabulous. The artichoke veloute, smoked salmon and horseradish was smoky and amazing. I wanted seconds and thirds. The cured tuna, kombucha with ginger and wasabi sorbet another goal scoring success. But then my taste buds went into a sort of misty limbo where nothing particularly stood out. I was on a culinary conveyor belt. I love quail. In fact I love all game food, but this was too buttery for my liking, missing the zing and knock out punch. Even the lamb missed the spot despite being very well cooked. It didn’t seem to make sense. I felt like an X Factor judge watching good talent flit past my eyes, wishing for the next performer to produce excellence. I had to fast-forward through three more«episodes»(local cod, beef sirloin and pre dessert), before Petite Mort hit its stride again with a knock-out Death By Chocolate. It saved the day. There is no question that Petite Mort has amazing culinary skills, but for a degustation menu, I wanted my taste buds to be taxed to all four corners of the earth, not two. I had listened to the first verse of a song but missed the chorus and other verses. The staff were attentive, friendly and certainly well trained, though I was a bit perplexed by their dress code. And like Restaurant Amuse, the chefs introduced each meal with an explanation that I enjoyed, when I could hear it. I do have bad hearing. Even my wine recommendation was spot on. I don’t think the $ 115 per person price tag was over the top because the complexity of each meal was unquestionable and the quality of each one equal to it. I liked the interior layout, exposed brick, dark browns, moody. The photos of barely clad women were sexy not pornographic. All in keeping with the place though hardly orgasmic. Yet I did think the bench seating needed a massive upgrade. The cushion pads were flat and creased. I noticed our adjoining two-top table had exposed pine wood that meant the poor young lady had to straddle a disjointed and barely covered pine beam, but I don’t think she cared. She looked a bit«Shirazed!» There must have been at least four birthday celebrations that night as the waiters pranced out in full song with flashing sparklers to lay down an amazing dessert plate with a chocolate«Happy Birthday» scribbled out on the plate. And then I thought to myself, the difference between a good and a great place are the little nuances like this. So where was my «Happy Anniversary» one. When I booked the restaurant, I made a very poignant comment, «It’s our anniversary» to the gentleman taking my booking. I even reminded them at the door on arrival. But no sparkler came. No red rose. And that dear readers is the difference between good and greatness; Restaurant Amuse and Petite Mort; a happy wife of sad one; a good review or one that leant towards a «little death» not a mind-shattering, «yes, yes yes!»

A great restaurant for a romantic dinner. The place feels warm and friendly with lots of space between tables, mostly knowledgeable and easy-going servers, a classy atmosphere, and good food. We had something to celebrate and started with delicious glasses of champagne($ 25 a pop), ordered a full-degustation($ 110) and a taste-of($ 95), and had a lovely evening that lasted for about 3.5 hours(~2.5 hrs for the food). With respect to the food, there sure was a lot to like, but we weren’t bowled over. A few of the dishes were a tad disappointing in our opinion. Those that we didn’t like too much included the chicken(degustation), which was rather dry and didn’t excite, and the sticky toffee pudding(taste-of), which was overly sweet. The cheese plate(taste-of) with 1 small piece of Brie was also not impressive. Standouts there were too. We absolutely loved the wasabi sorbet with the cured salmon(degustation), the incredible trout, and the gnocchi with 1-hr egg(both taste-of). The pork belly and death-by-chocolate(both degustation) were also excellent and delicious. Overall, this didn’t make our personal top for best degustations. Nevertheless, a lovely dinner, and we’d be happy to be back some day.

Sacrebleu! This place makes me want to take all my other five star reviews down to four stars, as this place redefines what five stars means! We were lucky enough to get a voucher for a degustation for two people for a wedding gift from a good friend. Having been on the wedding savings bandwagon for so long, we booked in this piece of extravagance two weeks after our wedding. We got a booking 2 weeks out at 6.30pm on a Saturday with no problems, which I was surprised about. It’s a small restaurant and we scored a spot at the front window, which was one of the cutest spots in the place. The only thing I would change about the place is the interior, as it’s a bit 90s for my liking, but it’s probably targeting a slightly older crowd than me. They don’t have matching wine for the degustation, but the server can make recommendations for the dishes. We started with some champagne, shared a bottle of chardonnay and finished off with some dessert wines, and were extremely impressed with the matching. I even got them to write the bottles down for me so I could have them again! All of the staff were incredible, it is without a doubt the best service I have ever experienced in Perth. So lovely and all so passionate about the food and wine, and seemed to be enjoying themselves, but at the same time making you feel like a imprortant priority on the night. The food, where to start. Every dish was fantastic. Just get the degustation and let them work their magic. The chocolate dessert was probably the highlight for me. I have been telling anyone who will listen how much I loved Petite Mort and I cannot wait to go back!

In our first experience with their Degustation menu, it was technically fantastic. The wait staff were great and their wine knowledge was exceptional on the night. The atmosphere was confusing, with a variety of music playing, including Stevie Wonder’s Happy Birthday. Is it fine dining or upper middle class? The menu, albeit technical was lacking symmetry. It needed a core ingredient or a theme to bring all the courses together. Some of the items in the dishes(like the apple jelly with the pork belly) lacked the flavor punch to really add anything to the overall dish. My wife on the other hand fell in love with the Manjimup Truffle over the Onion and Thyme Voulet AND the Wasabi Sorbet which accompanied the Cured Salmon and Ponzu. Don’t get me wrong all of the courses were prepared to perfection, perfectly cooked and well presented. In my opinion(and it is just an opinion) the meals need just a bit more refinement and Petite Mort would be a strong contender to take on juggernauts like Opus at The Richardson.

With having been here two of my birthday’s in a row it’s fair to say that I really enjoy the food here. After having it being recommended by friends, my girlfriend surprised me last year in booking here to celebrate. This year it was a no brainer and when she asked where I’d like to dine, Petit Mort was top of mind. After being impressed last year with the beautiful food, I invited my parents along this time and needless to say they were tickled by the offerings and we’ll be back again next year on what’s becoming a bit of a tradition. Upon walking in one of my favourite things I noticed immediately is the room between tables and patrons of this fine establishment. It’s not overcrowded with plenty of room to stretch and not bump into other tables or elbows with others at the table. It’s also a really nice setting and had a great ambience about it with people seemingly also celebrating. The service was excellent and extremely prompt with every course coming out in quick succession which might surprise some when considering the quality of each dish. One after the other, each dish was a star with well balanced, complimentary and subtle flavours. We had the degustation menu and the serving portions were just right in the end and great bang for your buck with each course more enticing than the last and tantalising our taste buds, telling a story with each dish as a song does with each note but building to a crescendo of deliciousness in Death By Chocolate. This house of sumptuous epicurean delights is a little hidden gem of Perth and when people ask me where to take that someone special or somewhere for an intimate occasion to be celebrated with good food and company, I’ll always say. Petit Mort!

I went here on a first date with my boyfriend. It was very intimate and romantic. The food was incredible-beautifully presented and also delicious. The service was as you would expect for a fine dining restaurant. We still talk about it a almost a year on.

Move over Amuse! Theres a new kid in town! Wow! Went here for our anniversary and was blown away! Housed in the old Star Anise building in Shenton Park/Subiaco is this gem. The décor is nice and intimate, the staff are friendly and courteous and the menu is to die for! As a nice change to most degustation restaurants they offer a few options. The full degustations, a reduced degustation, or a set 3 course meal. All of which have different offerings! We went the full hog and were blown away! Unfortunately they don’t do wine pairings with each course, however we were directed to an excellent bottle of champagne which got us through most of the courses, with a couple of single glasses towards the end for the main course and desserts! The first course set the scene for the rest of the evening, beautifully presented and even better tasting! The highlight being the dessert though! Death by Chocolate! Chocolate 7 different ways, it was well balanced and mouth watering and I’m generally not big chocolate dessert fan! The price for the quality of food and service was very reasonable(although in the range you would expect for this style dining). I’m planning my next excuse to visit this place! You should too!

Petite indeed. This French restaurant has been on the dining scene for around a year now. I have heard pretty good reviews of this place and last night on a whim me and Susan decided to brave the cold and go test out this culinary destination. Getting a booking last minute wasn’t a problem as we were both starving and were more than happy to eat as early as possible. We were welcomed on arrival and show a table near the windows facing the street. Atmosphere inside is quite please(temperature wise) and the ambiance is very good, quite classy and romantic. We were the first people in at this point and we were wondering if we had made some sort of mistake as it was so quiet. But a little while after ordering people started arriving and in no time the place was pretty full. The manager was straight over and was more than happy to explain the concept of Petite Mort and the options on offer. Basically you have a choice of going the degustation or the«Taste of Petite Mort»(a smaller version of the degustation) or making your own selections from the savoury and deserts menus. He recommends about 3 savoury and 1 desert dish each. The serving sizes of the dishes are sub entre size, basically each dish is the same size and presentation as the normal(excluding mains) courses of a normal degustation. We decided to try something different and try making our own selection. We ended up getting 6 savoury dishes to share and 1 desert dish. The wine pairing options for the degustation are not currently available as the menu has just been revamped but the manager put in a great recommendation for a glass of white and then red later that brought out the flavours in all the dishes without over powering them either. So in order of what was consumed I guess there was the brioche(complementary even though we didn’t go the dego option), Duck Liver Parfait, Popcorn, Brioche, Port Jelly. Crispy Skin Barramundi, Brandade, Clams. Confit Duck Thigh, Chanterelle & Cepe Mushrooms. Scallop, Pork Belly, Pig Head, Peach. Palate Cleanser.(once again complementary) Quail Breast, Duck Neck Sausage, Autumn Vegetables. The last savoury dish was the Pork Loin, Red Cabbage, Tongue, Schmalz which is also a new addition to the menu. Next was a Pre Desert(again complementary) and then we finished with the Passionfruit Soufflé, Raspberry Sorbet, Yoghurt. It does state on the desert menu that there is a 15 minute wait but that vanished quickly with eager conversation and the flavours of the dish made it worth the wait. Another pleasant surprise on leaving was more goodies to go. We decided to catch a flick at the movies and were a bit pushed for time(something I mentioned to a waiter earlier) and so they gave us some extra goodies to go in a container for our travels. This included some mini Macarons … always a winner. The service was great and the waiters actually acknowledged what we told them, very refreshing. The knowledge of the dishes was exemplary. The taste was divine and the pricing I though was fair giving the dining experience. Also something to note was all the complementary courses that are usually reserved for the dego were also including in our dining experience free of charge. A great little restaurant worth a look in. I will be back in future to try the dego to see how the dishes I didn’t try this time will taste!
