Doug’s Porridge occupies a space that has had many incarnations over the past few years, but this one appears to have stayed the test of time, so far… Whilst not as popular or trendy as Pillar a few doors down, the staff at Doug’s have always been super friendly when I have popped in for a takeaway or breakfast. The menu features, as the name suggests, a few different types of porridge, that can be ordered in a half or full serve! I love this concept as some bowls of porridge are just way too ginormous to finish. A half serve is often plenty. The husband and I, who both love our porridge, tried two different types and enjoyed both of them. Not our all time favourite, but definitely still good. The coffee is ok here(I am only just getting back into drinking it so have been ordering half strengths). The fit out is a bit unusual and not as trendy as other Melbourne cafes, but if the coffee, food and service are good, who really cares? One awesome thing is that these guys were open Xmas and New Years Day, serving coffee only from 9am-11am, so if you can’t go a day without your caffeine fix, this is one of the rare places open!

Simple little place on Church St. Have never ordered porridge when out for breakfast before, but when at a place called ‘Doug’s Porridge’ how can you go past it? As far as porridge goes, it was real nice. Got a detox juice which didn’t really have the zest factor I thought it would for a juice blend, but was still perfectly fine. Some of our party got some more stock-standard breakkie items which all looked good. (Note that we had someone in our group called Doug and yes he did order the porridge. No, he didn’t get it for free. Sorry Dougs out there.)

After walking past Top Paddock which always has massive lines on a weekend we went to Doug’s Porridge for the first time. The service was friendly and the place was relaxed… The food was nice. It wasn’t amazing but we definitely enjoyed having breakfast there. They also made a good coffee! The people there are really nice. If Unilocal had half stars I would have definitely given it an extra half star…
