If you are on the island a trip to Olive Hill Battery is a must! It’s a peaceful location at the top of the hill. You can give yourself a self guided tour of the battery and check out the remaining guns left on the island. The Battery was in use of 1937 – 1945, though Australia stopped using all of their batteries in 1960. Oliver Hill is the only battery in Australia that still has the guns in place. It’s a fun little history lesson while on the island. It’s another great place to admire the view of the ocean and the rest of the island. I recommend hiring a bike and taking it up to the top of the hill, it’s a bit of a workout but well worth the energy!
