Alas, Asian food in Melbourne that is spicy! This Yankee has spent(cumulatively) over a year in Melbourne looking for such a thing and here it is… YAHOO! And, if you’ve got someone in your group that claims to hate all vegetarian food, order them one of the tofu dishes and they’ll be eating both the dish AND their words! The food here is divine and the service is impeccable. The waitstaff were quite attentive as well. I enjoyed the laid back ambience too. So, so good! I would also like to add that at first, I was a little turned off that it was no-BYO. But… As it turns out, there were several wines on the list from $ 18-$ 22. Not too shabby. I look forward to returning to this establishment again soon.

I’ve never been to Bali so I had no idea what to expect of Balinese cuisine before I went to Warung Agus. And boy, were my socks blown off. I do not any longer have socks. It’s rich with very sweet flavours and there’s a lot of peanut sauce added to the dishes, which only adds to the richness and sweetness. We ordered the Tuung Mebasa Santen Lalah Manis($ 20) which is eggplant and tofu braised in coconut milk, sweet soy and spicy gravy, as well as the Tahu Goreng Mebasa Kacang($ 20) which is fried soya bean curd on mung bean sprouts with peanut sauce. We also got rice and it was just enough food — I think the portion sizes could be larger but the intensity of the food means you’ve had your fill of the flavours with these portions. That said, they were both beautifully cooked and presented. We booked one of the two bed tables — raised short tables under a canopy where you sit on cushions around it — and that made the experience really great. I highly recommend booking one of those tables ahead(as I’m sure you wouldn’t get one if you walked in).
