Incredibly fresh and made on the spot. Three different dishes using a variety of spices and food combinations and yet within 15 minutes our meals were delivered to the table piping hot. The seafood stir fry was full of seafood. Loved the very large muscles, the king prawns, calamari, scallops and the steamed vegetables. Cooked to perfection. I didn’t read the other review before attending… have a tendency to try without being influenced by others. I was totally impressed. I will have attend here again. There is only street parking here in Newtown and the restaurant is very small. Has seating outside for the doggy lover.

Finally, decent laksa in Newtown! This is a bit of a walk from the station though — maybe around 12 – 15 minutes. It’s really 3.5 stars — the laksa has great flavor, good portion size, food came quickly, and service was attentive. There were a few hiccups which keep me from rating this a 4 — I ordered to eat in but was given my food in a takeaway box at first, the bean sprouts were a bit old and soggy, and some of the veggies in the laksa gave it a bitter aftertaste. But all in all, it was a nice, tasty, meal, well worth the $ 10.90 spent.

I generally come here for lunch because the food is consistently awesome and the price is incredible. It is $ 7.50 for lunch — that’s pad thai, pad see ew(however that’s spelt) and so forth. Awesome stuff. Minimal wait time too. The important thing about restaurants, and I find particularly Thai restaurants, is that they are consistent in the taste of their food. You get a good meal, and you want that meal again — not a different one. And that’s what impresses me about this place — every time it’s just as good.

I’m always pulled in by the $ 6.90 Thai lunch special places but then immediately regret it after being stuffed from grease and carbs. This one is less greasy than others and the digs are a bit nicer. Chances are I’ll be pulled in again.

Every time I have dined here after having graduated from university, I immediately feel nostalgic of my wonderful university days filled with freedom, new friends, inefficient study habits and restrictive budgets. Newtown Thai II has come a long way since I first started university in 2007. Originally established as what appeared from far to be an industrial bathroom serving great Thai food at the competitive Newtown Thai price, it has since been renovated to have the ambience of a suburban Thai restaurant. Although, it does not have the romantic atmosphere of Thairiffic a few doors down, the price makes it my staple Newtown Thai restaurant for lunch and dinner. Anything on the lunch menu is great with my favorite lunch dishes being the chicken pad see ew and the clear chicken soup noodle with thin rice noodle. For dinner, the papaya salad, salt and pepper squid, pad Thai and curries are highly recommended. The serving sizes if classified by gender are male and doggy bagging is always an option in the case that you have ordered too many dishes or have little appetite on the day. Service is always welcoming, attentive and fast. Your meals will always arrive hot, within 10 minutes and at the same time as your companion’s meal. Nothing has and can ever go wrong at Newtown Thai II.

Cheap & Yummy! I came into Newtown for my second time over this past weekend and got to enjoy one of the best quick thai places on King Street. The area is filled with thai restaurants but this one is unlike most of the lot. Since you guys know I usually order vegitarean, I was very happy when they served our meal with tons of veggies and tofu. We ordered the vegetarian pad thai & pad see yew both of which I would recommend. The food was even better at 2 am when we enjoyed leftovers for our«fourth meal» of the day. Trust me, this beat out any trip to taco bell back in America.

It was opening night in a two days and we were about to have our tech run. I rode my bicycle over the bridge with an excited look on my face which I’m sure both confused and amused the traffic that caught a glimpse of me. I stopped into the costume shop and picked up some, ‘improper string’ or «Silly String™» for those name brand buyers, and then cycled up Harris Street to the hotel where I waited for the rest of my cast and crew. This was a joyous and exciting day, hence the excited face. Then a few things went wrong. First, the tech run had been poorly organised and we were competing against a massive delivery of alcohol and the fact that our play was being performed in a pub meant that the alcohol won and we were kicked out until 7 hours later in the evening. Then, one of our leads turned up with a terrible cold and he couldn’t speak. Our man with two large monologues was rendered speechless, not by any filthy or deprived act on my behalf but by a common cold. These two issues, the eviction of our tech rehearsal and the phlegm of our actor, meant that we were on a non-stop collision path with Newtown Thai II. We drove to Newtown and made use of the $ 6.50 lunch special, full of chilli to fend off that cold. We went inside and ordered our food, two Pad Kee Mau’s for the healthy of the three and a chicken soup with extra chilli for our nasally impaired compatriot. We took the food back to his place to rehearse and we dined on our foods, and I was pleasantly surprised by this cheap Thai foods ability to make me happy amidst a day full of horribly stressful events.
