If you like eating food at all you should definitely avoid this place. Terrible flavorless unhealthy uninspired mockery of Vietnamese cuisine. Also: extremely overpriced. I wish I had a time machine so I could warn my past self about this place. If I had a genie and three wishes I would probably use one right now. 0⁄10

Love love love this place. Have been coming here for years(very regularly when I lived nearby) and recently came back for the first time in a year or so — food and service are just as fantastic as they have always been. It’s a large restaurant and whilst it is always busy, we have hardly ever been turned away if we show up without a reservation(as a couple — bookings recommended for groups). Food is fresh and consistently delicious, staff are friendly and atmosphere is relaxed.

Staff are attentive and service is knowledgeable. Food is as fresh as you’d expect from a Vietnamese restaurant and there are some original dishes on the menu — not just the usual. It’s been a while since we had visited but will not be coming here much more often — this is a very professional restaurant.

Defs one of the fancier restaurants on King St. Service was good, food was delicious. We got the vegetrian DIY rice paper rolls and the stir fried tofu & mushrooms with lemongrass and chili for two to share. The rolls were plenty(12) and the fillings were just enough. The tofu & mushrooms were great but way too spicy for me! My bad, forgot to tell them to go easy on the chili. It got served with rice which was good cos of the chili but we didn’t order it and got charged $ 3 which I thought was weird. In the end we were pretty stuffed and probably the rice paper rolls would have been good enough. The total was about $ 60 including a glass of wine each. We had a great night with great friends and yummy food and would totally come back when back in town!

I’ve come here twice with my cousin and her kids. The shop used to be in Cabramatta but has since moved to Newtown. Overall the food is pretty good, authentic and fresh. The service is friendly, they know my cousin so we’re always taken care of. The first time I came it was packed, but last Sunday — Grand Finals Day, it was pretty dead.

This place came highly recommended from some friends of ours, but basically was a major disappointment. First, it was quite expensive — two dishes and a salad was a little over $ 60. The green papaya salad was actually excellent! However, the seafood dish we tried was completely flavorless and the pork dish we tried had all the tenderness of a shoe(though the flavor was pretty good and I must say that my jaw muscles are more defined after the intense workout they were given). I’d be willing to give them another try based on the good reviews I’ve read in the paper and from others, but I’m not in any hurry to do so.

Absolutely delicious. I was immediately excited about trying this restaurant when I found out that they have a sister branch in Cabramatta — it suggested to me that this would be a place to come and try authentic Vietnamese food. I was right. Everything on the menu tastes as if you had bought it straight from Vietnam. The freshness, intensity and balance of the flavours was incredible. I love rice paper rolls, so much so that any old rice paper roll tastes good to me. The ones at Thanh Binh were divine — so soft, filled with delicious pieces of prawn, pork, vermicelli, lettuce and mint. Definitely an entrée where everyone needs a plate each because these are too good to share. The also offer a clever, fun and novel way to experience Vietnamese cuisine with their ‘roll your own’ option — for $ 24, you’re given rice paper, a choice of fillings and salad and allowed to roll your own. It adds an extra dimension of fun and also means you can choose exactly what you roll up. For main we ordered a whole range of dishes that were recommended to us by the waitress. I can’t remember what they were, but I can remember that they were absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend doing the same if you visit this restaurant — the staff are lovely and evidently very knowledgeable about Vietnamese cuisine. Therefore, it makes sense(if you’re adventurous) to let them choose their favourites for you. It means you try things you’ve probably never tried before. I had a great time at this fantastic restaurant — it offers some of the best Vietnamese I’ve ever had.

Thanh Binh is one of those awesome places where you can rock up late with a few bottles under your arm and know that within 10 minutes you’ll have your banquet laid out in front of you and wine in your glass. It’s a big space with a simple interior that lets the food do the talking. I came with a group and we ordered a table full of Vietnamese goodies to share, starting with the salt and pepper squid with tamarind dipping sauce, and fresh rice paper rolls with pork, prawn, vermicelli noodles, lettuce, mint and an amazing peanut dipping sauce. We loved the roll-your-own rice paper rolls, which featured lemongrass minced beef, steamed rice noodles, wild betel leaves and crushed peanuts. The caramelised pork fillets on shredded cabbage with a lemon dipping sauce and the twice-cooked soy aniseed ducked served on top of egg noodles with baby shitake and bok choy were both fantastic. The restaurant is licensed and BYO(wine only), with corkage at $ 2.50 per person.
