Roxanne, you don’t have to put on the red light; those days are over… I can’t help but thinking that this song aptly describes my relationship with this café. It used to be a funky meeting point with its Moulin Rouge-esque décor but these days, the lustre has worn off a bit. The affordable and diverse menu is the best part-a creative blend of Modern Australian and Asian food. The Moroccan Lamb Cutlets and the Japanese scallops served with king prawn risotto still rock my world. A reliable place for a casual breakfast with a good cup of Amanti coffee or an Asian-fusion inspired lunch where you can take advantage of the free Wi-Fi, but not the groundbreaking experience or a sexy, interesting spot for a date that it used to be.

Sweet Roxanne, I feel like you had so much potential, but there was just no chemistry between us. Perhaps it’s me; maybe I just don’t jive with your concept. Whatever it was, my experience at Roxanne was not something to write home about. The menu is mainly Modern Australian, but there is definitely a Pan-Asian influence that pervades through it. This is because the restaurant is the product of collaboration between a Vietnamese and Nepalese chef. Though it really is a humble place with an intimate, if not seductive ambience, but the food was unimpressive. I know some people who really like it, but I’m not one of them. To summarize my experience, I did not get a feeling of sophistication or culinary expertise. If I were to judge it harshly, I’d consider it a place that pennywise students go to when they’re looking to ‘splurge’ on a romantic meal. To be fair, the service was pretty good and the prices were affordable. Unfortunately, that is not enough to have me come back in the future. There are better restaurants in Glebe.
