Good service and low prices meet in this former movie theatre turned pub(my friend’s dad says that he remembers seeing films here in what would have been the 1960s.) Very spacious so I’ve not had difficulty finding seating here. Been twice, once for drinks at night and once for breakfast, and I would say that as Wetherspoons go it’s a fairly good one. Non-fried breakfast options include scones, pancakes, and toast but of course I went for the traditional breakfast

I have been in here a few times and it’s OK but nothing special. The drinks are really cheap though so that’s a good thing. It has a nice big bar and it’s really spaces. It gets quite busy in here but it feels like its missing something there isn’t much atmosphere. I would go in again but it’s not at the top of my list for bars/pubs in manchester.

As I’m new to the UK I don’t have any experience with whatever chain this is, so I’m unbiased. I was actually surprised by all the negative reviews here. I visited on a Sunday evening for a group meeting and I assume this bar was chosen for its size since it is IMMENSE. The interior is actually quite interesting and we were speculating on what use the building had previously. As it was Sunday it was rather calm with a mix of people(ages, dress, etc). Not too noisy at all. The menu seemed varied and the drinks were cheap. I didn’t eat anything so I can’t comment on the quality of the food. The service at the bar was quick and friendly which again is pretty normal for a Sunday(there was no line). The bathrooms were super clean and large — always a plus in a bar. Overall I had no complaints about the place other than the fact that it was a little chilly! I wouldn’t mind returning on a busier day to see the difference!

It is a Wetherspoon’s, so nothing that special, once you have been to one you have pretty much been to them all. It is okay for breakfast although I do think there are better places to go in Manchester for breakfast(this would never be my choice), and considering it opens at a fairly reasonable time it is a good place to meet large groups due to its sheer size, even with a group of 15 the pub felt huge. It is cheap and not cheerful like most Wetherspoon’s always slightly badly lit, I suspect they do this to make the food look more appealing under a yellowing light. I have to say the staff were slow, and really did not seem to care, until it was obvious from us asking to be served. It is often a problem with staff these days not seeing who arrived at the bar when, so however much we were standing waiting to be served it seemed that everyone who arrived after us at the bar was served first. I would not recommend the breakfast here if you wish to loose weight considering the only un-fried thing on the British breakfast is toast(I did not have this as it is just over 2k calories on its own), I opted for one of the healthier options but my request to have the sauce on the side was ignored so what might of been a fair healthy option went up for no real reason, this as you can imagine is disappointing for people like me who want to loose weight.

I don’t dislike the moon underwater but it isn’t exactly the nicest of pubs/bar in Manchester… one plus point of here is that the drinks are exceptionally cheap… £13 a round for 5 people. Doubt you could get that many places. So if you’re looking for a cheap night out then visit here but if you’re after a relaxing drink maybe try elsewhere.

Basically, you get what you pay for. It’s cheap food and cheap drink, so of course it’s going to attract a rowdy element. But we always seem to end up here when we can’t think of anywhere else to go. Don’t expect high quality food or ambience and you can’t go wrong!

Wetherspoons has improved significantly in recent years and has a lot more real ales on at decent prices which makes it OK in my book. The Moon under Water has a huge bar down the side with about 10 casks and a further five on the bar at the back. It also sells more foreign beers including my beloved Erdinger which also improves its standing. The pub itself is massive — much larger than it looks from outside and has plenty of seating as a result. Of course there are nice independent places in the city but for a cheap pint of decent beer it’s a good choice.

I kinda like this place! It’s a huge bar what goes back quite a way so enough seating for looooooads of people, it has great beers including Heineken and Amstel for 2.99 a pint! The menu is fantastic with beers and a burger for £5.39 and fish and chips and a beer for 6.09!!! It has a fun atmosphere at times but if u want a drink with some good food after work then this is a good place! It’s a typical whetherspoons but the staff work hard and seem friendly, we will be back.

Cheap drinks, cheap food and you get served quick. Bit nicer than some Weatherspoons, but still a spoons so maybe not ideal for a date but alright for a cheap one with mates before going somewhere else.

Once you’ve been to one Wetherspoon’s, you’ve pretty much been to them all. Yet, I still have a rather soft spot in my heart for ‘The Moon Under Water,’ mainly because it was the site of many wild drunken afternoons out back when I was at sixth form college. And there aren’t many places in Manchester where you can get tanked on a fiver. Saying that though, it’s not the most salubrious of pubs. Firstly, it is huge — mainly because it used to be a cinema. Plus it allegedly has the longest bar in Europe — although you’ll still have to queue for a good few minutes if it’s busy. However, it does have a good few nooks and crannies that you can hide in if you get a bit fed up of the antics of the rowdy clientele. Because yes, the patrons are a definite downside to The Moon Under Water. Being situated on Deansgate, you get all sorts walking in off the street, and it is a magnet for rowdy football fans on match days. It’s not the kind of place to go for a quiet drink on a Saturday night either, and is usually teeming with all sorts of life — although some of it might not be the nicest kind. It’s an alright pub, and it’s cheap. But it’s probably not the kind of place you’d want to go to for a night out.

For a start, The Moon under Water has free wi-fi. If you are staying in town close to Deansgate but have no Internet and don’t know where to get online, this is the place to go. Their Cloud network supports o2 mobile Internet, but you can get on the web even if you only have an email. The Moon under Water is as huge as it gets — apparently it is in the Guinness Book of Records as Britain’s largest pub. Originally, however, it was a picture house, and one of the photographs you will find hanging on the wall shows the entrance with«Oklahoma» listing. The original building dates back to 1916, and the initial purpose dictated — and now explains — the size of the building. I’ve been to the pub at different times. On a Saturday you may well be in for some dance floor action and loud music. Thursday is a fix for curries. In the day it is not uncommon to find old respectable ladies sitting and chatting over a meal, while at night the public is younger, merrier, and«dressed to impress». Being a Wetherspoons pub, Moon under Water will be serving specialty ales, so if you are a lager or bitter fan always ask for their seasonal drink lists. They presently take part in the UK-wide Real Ale Festival. It may sound bizarre, but their WCs are something of an artwork. Forget the traditional tile-and-glass interiors of today: here you will be walking on the soft carpet and looking at century-old wall tiles. You can vividly imagine those ladies in long dresses with high-neck collars trailing down the washroom’s aisle or powdering their noses in front of the mirrors.

If Carlberg did pubs, Moon Under Water wouldn’t be it. It’s a Wetherspoon’s for starters so it’s got a lot to live up to its name. And it sure does. That’s packed out, brimming out on the pavements, cheap and the average selection of drinks type name. It’s just a strange concept being on Deansgate, thought to be a more affluent road with Kendals, Living Room and Label alongside and The Hilton down the bottom. I’ve been for breakfast once and it wasn’t a pleasant an experience I can tell you that. Warm, microwaved food it tasted like. Hm. Big mistake. Fair play to it packing in some regulars. it’s just annoying trying to dodge past them when they’re clogging up the pavement.

The Moon Under Water on Deansgate closed for refurbishment a few months ago. I awaited eagerly for the new pub near my house to open and reveal itself. Some time later the doors opened, and revealed… a new carpet. This is a bog standard Wetherspoons boozer. All its got going for it is its prices. The beers are cold so you cant taste hoe flat they are, and they’re only £2 or so. For this reason alone its a decent place to grab a swift one if you’re looking to save a few bob. However, its clientelle are also problematic, and i often recieve a dirty look for no apparent reason. Also, when walking past on the weekends it always seems a bit lively. Not in the fun sense but in the too much aggro sense.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh… the sad thing is… this isn’t the worst pub I’ve ever been in… But Jesus wept, Moon Under Water, it’s like one big echoey barrel filled with the striepy t-shirt crew, all very too aware of the fact that it’s a Wetherspoons and there are cheap drink deals to be had, and they are in fact, making the most if it and their weekend. By day it’s doable, by night it’s horrible. It’s location makes it an easy meeting point for beginning a night, but getting to the bar is a friggin mission. Communicating with staff or your mates becomes a Dom Jolly sketch show. With all the bars in Manchester, I’d pick another one for night time sessions, and by day, meh, cheap lunch and plenty of space, so why not.

Another drinking den well worth avoiding is Moon Under Water. Admittedly, the name conjures images of sipping Southern Comfort whilst listening to cooool jazz in a New Orleans bar. But trust me, the name is misleading as this particular Moon Under Water is a soul-less pub run by Weatherspoons. The décor is bland and mediocre, the music is abysmal — think bad 70s disco to current pop and rock — and the fact it’s so cavernous means it’s impossible to have a quiet drink here without hearing a hundred other voices all around you. The cheap drinks and special meal deals mean it’s constantly packed regardless — with large groups of friends and colleagues stuffing their faces with unimaginative burgers, pies and curries in-between pints. Come Friday and Saturday nights, there’s also a free disco where you can watch tipsy strangers trying to re-enact moves from Grease and Saturday Night Fever on the dancefloor.

I too have not good things to say about this place. Why in such a prime location on Deansgate do we have such a bland, usually half empty place devoid of any real charm? The Moon under Water has a dancefloor around the back but I would stop myself before throwing some shapes on there ever again. The remaining people dancing consisted of those with the want of imagination to find a more decent arena for their ‘talents’ on the dancefloor. The prices are not even that cheap and a group of friends and I nipped in here, got some drinks and pretty much wanted to leave immediately. Thoughts like ‘Anywhere would be better than this’ leapt into our minds and the place made us feel like we were trying to force a good time. Plus these are friends I’ve known for ten years. Stupid pub.

A multi-layered wetherspoon pub… what did I do wrong to deserve such a place within 10 miles of my house? I feel sick.

Why would such a flea pit need to be so big? Fleas are tiny.
