I have been to Ditsch a few times while in the Arndale Centre around lunch time and needed a bite to eat. I have never tried the pretzels so can’t comment on how good they good. As for the pizzas, they have a selection of several pizzas with different toppings. Most of the time its not too bad, decent enough pizza. However, the last time I went, I went for a chicken based pizza. Unfortunately, it was really dry. I usually go for a Hawaian pizza but didn’t like the look of it as the chunks of pineapple were huge! Should have been at least half the size and spaced out — thats just being fussy maybe!

I’m a huge fan of Pretzels, so any proprietor who is propagating the proliferation of this platted perfection gets my attention! Ditsch being a German company have pretty much nailed the ‘on the go’ pretzel in their soft baked range, I’m not normally a huge fan of salt, but the Kosher salt they add to these little beauties are extremely moreish! They are certainly filling and I can see why they would be useful for mopping up copious amounts of beer at the Oktoberfest, but I also find them a highly desirable savoury snack to tear off and much when I’m mooching about the Arndale. They have some variations from just an ordinary pretzel, but it’s a shame that they don’t do more e.g. like chocolate covered ones, Garlic or Almond ones, like American rivals Auntie Anne’s — although Ditsch are cheaper than Anne’s, Anne’s certainly has the better choice even superior taste — although I think the nearest Anne’s is in Derby, so a bit of a trek for a Pretzel! The other thing that lets Ditsch down are there ‘pizza’ slices — they are pizzas in appearance only — the base is like a soggy strip of cardboard, which obviously comes premade, churned out of some factory in Dusseldorf no doubt. The toppings are greasy and has the charisma you would expect from a mass produced synthetic gloop. So I go here for the soft baked Pretzels and nothing else, service is speedy but certainly not personal, but if you just want a salted bread treat then I’d suggest giving them a whirl!

There are certain things from the US that I’d love us Brits to embrace. According to my parents it took us long enough to get pasta, vegetarian produce and cous cous on our supermarket shelves so we could be waiting a long time for a more substantial nod to Americana. But my wishes include cafés which serve French toast, waffles and pancakes for breakfast, and stalls that deal in pretzels. I had a proper pretzel in Canada and I’ve never looked back. Forget those piddly things you get in bags of snacks, I’m talking chewy, crispy, pastry bready things the size of your face. But wait — hark, what have we here? DITSCH! While the name might sound like somewhere you’d dump bodies around the side of the reservoir, it’s certainly a lot more classy and appetising than that. Ditsch is the ultimate gap-filler. There’s not really anywhere to sit… this is the ultimate grab and go food with a handy paper bag in which to munch it. Here you can indulge in the likes of plain, savoury and sweet pretzels(the cinnamon one being a particular delight) as well as miniature pizzas. What on earth could be better to fuel yourself through the hellish shopping experience that is the Arndale Centre? Reasonable prices too. Don’t ditch it… Ditsch it. Hey, I should write slogans.

Ditsch is a German specialist bakers whose particular speciality is pretzels. Though we do get pretzels in the UK, they’ve never really taken off as they have in the US or in Europe. Why? I’ve got literally no idea. The pretzel is a beautiful thing. Soft bread or pastry wound into a lovely shape, makes the pretzel the ideal snack. Crunchy yet soft, chewy yet melty, the pretzel emanates happiness. And Ditsch have been making pretzels for ninety years, since 1919! So they’ve obviously perfected it by now! There’s hundreds of Ditsch bakeries in Germany, but only a few here. The Ditsch in the Arndale then, unlike anywhere else in the Arndale, is a real must visit. At only £1.35 you can have a gorgeous pretzel, which will go some way to making your horrendous Arndale shopping experience more bearable. Additionally, and importantly, the nature of a pretzel is such that its convenient to eat it while on the move, facilitating a swift escape from the pit of stress and disarray that is the Arndale Food Court.

Ditsch is without a doubt my guilty pleasure when I’m looking for something to fill a small gap during an afternoon’s shopping. It’s ‘always fresh, always crisp, always Ditsch’, so the slogan goes, and they’re right. I love the 50s styling of the red logo and steel serving bar and the smell oozing from the ovens behind. They’ve got different sized and flavoured pretzels here but also pretzel rolls and pizzas too. I’m quite partial to the cheese and sausage roll, and like to take away a couple of soft pretzels to make lunch with if I haven’t got time to stop and eat, but I wish I hadn’t discovered the nut and praline-cream croissant — it’s become something of an obsession!

Ditsch is a German pretzel bakery that has managed to set up home in Manchester Arndale. I like this place and that suprises me for two reasons; firstly I don’t like bakeries. Yes I know I’m weird but I never find anything I want to eat in them. Secondly, I don’t like pretzels! So what is it about this place? It’s the pizzas. They make these ickle pizzas with a range of different toppings, biiger than a slice but not to big to eat whilst walking around with. They’re so good! A little bit expensive I suppose but not really considered it fills a hole and it cheaper than the Subway facing it and the Bagel Nash a few doors down.

Hadn’t had a pretzel in the UK before, had many in the US, usually cinnamon. However truly awful! take on the german/american versions. Cold chewy excuse for a lump of dough, the worst food stuff I have had in a long time and the only positive is merely a waste of £1.35. You shouldn’t be allowed to make pretzels, and should be made to burn your pretzel baking gear so that you may never blacken the pretzel name again.

Another new alternative to horrible greasy fried fast food! Distch is a take away only place located in the upper mall of the new Arndale bit, which I think is German as they sell hot pretzels(which aren’t my cup of tea but apparently very nice) and some other very tasty hot snacks. As a great alternative to Gregg’s the bakers, Ditsch sell a range of hot bread type products like pizza slices with a variety of toppings, but the best things they sell are the tomato and mozzarella slices! They are not expensive * a mere £1.35 and they are really gorgeous and so tasty! Ideal for a little snack stop whilst out shopping!
