I had no particular desire to go here, but a friend suggested it as someplace convenient for her to meet, and so I obliged. Service is fair to indifferent, though the food is decent.

We popped in for afternoon tea because the cakes in the window looked fabulous. We all ordered afternoon tea. Service was fairly slow and communication was a bit fractured. The food was plentiful but our scones were very small. No waitresses were seen to complain to. Jam was supplied in a peel off plastic portion and the cream was served in a very small dish in keeping with size of the scones. The cakes were nothing like the ones in the window and had we known we wouldn’t have gone in. They were quite tasty though. Tea was restricted to 2 cups and no hot water was offered to top up. There was no space on the table anyway. For £12 a head plus a hefty service charge it was poor value for money, even at London prices. You don’t really have to make much of an effort when 99% of your customers are passing trade.

Also had lunch here. Burgers were fantastic. Great selection and large portions. Nice location, open airy atmosphere. Lots of old people, and not hip, but food was very good and reasonably priced. We were looking for a not so fussy place and this was it. Went two days in a row.

I popped in for a coffee break on a busy Saturday afternoon. Even though Caffee Concerto is part of a small chain it doesn’t feel as corporate as Starbucks or Caffe Nero and more like an old-fashioned Continental coffee house. All very respectable and not at all exciting, but comfortable and safe. It seems to be frequented mainly by well heeled tourists and middle aged Sloanies.

Decided to try this restaurant as I was just walking around the area having landed from the US earlier in the day. I ordered the chicken Milanese and it was just ok. In my opinion it was over fried and bland. The rigatoni that accompanied it was somewhat better. Oh, and the service was poor.

Part of the group of other Caffe Concertos around the city, this recent addition on King’s Road across from the Duke of York Square is in direct competition from Patisserie Valerie’s two spots a stone’s throw away. A sort of Italian version of PV, it too is a café/patisserie where shoppers can rest their feet. The interior is cozy though slightly a bit burlesque club with red leather banquets and ornate bar. It makes one wonder it this may be trying to double as a cocktail stop off in the evenings. It all seems good enough. Their morning coffee and pastries were tasty and normally would go down well, but unfortunately for them PV’s in the Duke of York Square are better. However if PV is full –or you don’t want to deal with their indifferent service at the gelateria– this place can fill in.
