A godsend of portable, lunchable treats to eat! Something miraculous happened to this Grocer between 2014 and my first visit in 2012 or so. They used to sell mediocre, overpriced, generic«artisanal» things. They now sell miracles in plastic boxes. The prices haven’t gone down, but the quality has skyrocketed in the areas I care about – specifically, what is the tastiest food I can grab en route to the office? After hopping between Pret and Gail’s too many times, I am so glad to have a third contender for my coveted lunch spot. I had a pumpkin cannoli that was rich and sweet, a Bombay curry that was gleefully ghee-ful, and a feta and peppercorn polenta that was way better than it had any right to be. It treads on the saltier side for me, but for a once weekly lunch splurge, I can deal just fine. Best of all, they portion some of the lunch boxes like a complete meal, complete with a serving of greens and broiled tomatoes. They have plenty of options, and I often spend five minutes deciding. The only easy decision is to be back for more.

WHATUP awesome eats?! I mean, you’ll sell your kidney to buy a salad, but hell — every now and again it’s worth it. Who cares what it’s trying to be? Is it a deli, is it a coffee shop? Meh! They do amazing salads in the summer and that’s fine by me. That’s where this place comes into its own. Everything else you can get elsewhere(ie. Waitrose next door or Joe & the Juice further towards Sloane Square)

Contrary to some of the other views expressed here, I think the Grocer on Kings does what it does rather well. True, it may be suffering from an identity crisis of sorts, as it certainly doesn’t sell fruit ‘n veg, just a mixture of sandwiches, sweets(!), pastries, desserts, soups, bread, other ready-made food, hot drinks, preserves, tins and other store cupboard essentials. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the chocolate and pistachio pastry I had and even more so at the unexpectedly good value of it all: my pastry was £1.80, croissants cost £1.20(40p cheaper than Paul) and medium-sized cakes £3.95, 55p cheaper than comparable stores in Wandsworth Town. For Kings Road, that ain’t bad at all.

So this is how the other half lives… An egg and bacon roll for two with coffee will set you back almost 20 quid. Oh the life of the rich, how I pity you. So popped in here desperate for some coffee and breakfast before heading over to Handmade In Britain at Chelsea Town Hall, and I didn’t quite know what to expect. The food looked lovely. It was all set out like a posh corner shop but at the back they have a collection of chairs and tables where you can eat in too. All very civilized! I’m not sure I would mission it all the way over here for brunch or breakfast but I will say that I’d like to go again. I loved their homemade ketchup, and the baps were really tasty(just check out the pictures)! I can never say no to a tasty bap!

Seems to me this store doesn’t know exactly what it wants to be. It’s part deli, part bakery, part restaurant, part café, part trendy store, all the while not being particularly good at being any of them. I stopped here for coffee and a sandwich a ways back and it was fine. Nothing earth shattering, and actually, a nice change a place from Pret and Eat. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get here but if you are passing by, stop in for a look.

The Grocer is a cross between a café and deli/bakery. It has a good selection of ready made foods — salads, sandwiches, pastas, spreads, soups, desserts, baked goods, etc. Not going to lie though, it’s a bit expensive, but the food is worth it — YUM!

This is basically a very posh deli with a seating area in the back of the shop where you can have a coffee, pastry. When I was here last there was about four old ladies sitting having a great old chat, I overheard them talking about how good the pastries were so I decided to try the lemon merangue to take away and it was amazing. They sell posh sandwiches, bread and pastries which are made in their own bakery and really nice looking freshly made soups and sauces. It’s kind of pricey but at least you are getting freshly made good quality, healthy food in return.
