I won’t say the hove kitchen has the worst service because disaffected service is more or less the British national sport. The food is ok. Prepare to wait and ask for everything except a chair and table and air to breathe.

Have had a couple of lunches at Hove Kitchen and would recommend it overall. The staff are always friendly and the bar area allows dogs, which is terrific. Food is fairly routine brasserie/pub food and if that’s what you want then it’s fine.

I spent one of the loveliest Sundays I’ve had in ages in here the other day. Treated by our friends and their little boy, we came in and didn’t hold back on the menu and drinks! It’s a lofty, modern space with an easy-going, relaxed vibe. It reminds me a little of the Tin Drum. There is a children’s corner — with toys and books of all sorts, to keep the rugrats entertained while you can focus on the delicious food and(hopefully) good company. The service is non-intrusive but still attentive. For starters I had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli. The ham hock was tasty, maybe could have done with a touch more moistness but the piccalilli was delicious. It had a bit of a kick to it and rich flavour. Yum! Others went for the Calamari — I scoffed most of theirs though! It was sensational, perfect batter and served with a tomatoey, chilli jam + sour cream. Another was the gnocchi, I didn’t try this but my friend really enjoyed it(she’s a head chef!). It didn’t come out in little round balls though as I would expect, instead it was like one big slice. For mains I had the forerib of beef — cooked rare with all the trimmings. It was delightful. They bring the veggies in one big pot to share which I usually hate(cos I’m greedy) but they are definitely not shy with them. There were still leftovers from us sharing between four. The others went for the Partridge which was quite pricey but the best partridge I’ve tasted. So moist and well infused with the garlic and thyme that had been stuffed up its bottom! I don’t usually do this but we couldn’t resist sharing a cheese board and a treacle and pear sponge between us. The treacle and pear sponge was TODIE for. Rich and decadent but not too sickly. The cheeseboard was also delicious — the Barcombe blue was out of this world. The lads said their Peroni’s were the nicest they’d had and I can vouch for the Malbec. VERY enjoyable Sunday but not your cheapest.

I’m not going to lie. This was definitely one the best vegetarian breakfasts I’ve ever had. That probably means(after regular consumption) it could cut 5 years off my life but I think I’m okay with that if it tastes this good. Yum. And I love sitting by the open windows and at the patio tables in the summer. Fancy.

Friendly service. We were offered a table next to the heater as it was cold outside. Though the heater turned out to be off. Very pleasant atmosphere. The breakfast was very tasty indeed.

A good location, well lit and a friendly welcome. We showed up for breakfast at 10.00 on a Sunday, the place nearly empty. The range of food was fair, not great, but my heavens, was the service slow! It took an age to take the order for teas and coffees, and even though we were not fastest off the block to make up our minds about what to eat, it was around 20 minutes before it showed, with no explanation for the delay. By that time we had long since drained teas and coffees, and getting re-fills took a long, long while. Staff were not that attentive, although they did apologise for the delay, the pancakes were undercooked and for my part I would not be that tempted to return.
