Farm Tavern

The gluten free roast here is AMAZING!!! Super cozy place, bursting at the seams on a Sunday afternoon, so probably worth a reservation. I will be back.

Ignore those previous 2 previous reviews. They were written in 2010. This is 2013. MASSIVE change! I often walk past it on my way home from work /​play… so, I’ve gone in a quite a few times now, and I’m always pleasantly surprised at the friendly and friendly upbeat staff. The food is excellent with a great selection of drinks The music’s great too. I highly recommend this pub /​tavern! I wish this was my local, damn :-)

Farm Tavern has always been a little bit of a dive, and a recent excursion back to one of my old haunts proved this point to be yet again. I’ve had some great times here, from drinking myself silly to seeing some great comedy acts, it just surprises me how it still manages to stay open. Often empty, always pokey and a little pricey… There are better drinking places nearby, but few with as much character as Farm Tavern.
What Farm Tavern loses out in nearly everything you’d rate a pub on, it wins hugely on atmosphere and ambiance. It’s pokey and more than one chair is perilously close to being broken, yet Farm Tavern retains a warmth and pleasantness that many pubs should be going great lengths to emulate. I suppose it’s something to do with the incongruous shape of the room, curved around a huge bar that overdominates the space, or the fact that there’s occasionally comedy upstairs, in a room best described as a shoebox… However, beyond it’s atmosphere, Farm Tavern is a truly awful drinking hole: terrible selection, high prices, expensive and not very good food, poor location up the back of a side alley, etc.
Farm Tavern is a nice place for a quick drink, if you’re in the area anyway, and the comedy nights that occasionally go on have surprisingly good acts for the size of the space: just don’t plan an evening around it: you will be disappointed.

Having come under new management yet again many would suggest The Farm Tavern has something fundamentally wrong with it. Upon recent evidence however, one could argue the exact opposite. This time it seems like the management might have more staying power. Having made a series of both major and subtle changes they’ve finally given the Farm Tavern something to boast about. The kitchen now knocks out some very tasty, good value stuff including a variety of hearty roasts. They also serve a range of cask ales at the incredibly reasonable price of £2.50 per pint. If you’re new to this place or have previously endured a less-​than-​satisfactory experience I sincerely recommend giving the Farm Tavern a try. It’ll be nice to see this place do well and if word gets out I think it will.

Cozy pub out of the bustle of town a bit love the open fires in the winter and friendy staff. Amazing big roasts on a Sunday Try the Peri Peri chicken! Yum There’s some great paintings in the bar too! The landlady has some great tunes too!

The Farm Tavern is nowhere near a farm, despite the name, but in a small side-​street up from busy Western Road in Hove.
It’s a friendly, popular local, with a long narrow bar and a small snug on the ground floor, and a cosy room upstairs. It serves both real ale and food, although we’ve not eaten there. The clientele is varied, but mostly in the 20 – 40 year old range.
It can get very crowded (so there’s nowhere to sit) on a week-​end evening, and service at the bar can be irritatingly inattentive. But it’s a good fall-​back — better actually at lunchtimes.
