Really bad experience had on our anniversary and Valentine’s Day. Very disappointing. Asked for the set menu to include glass of prosecco, the waiter actually put his head in his hands and seemed very stressed. it was too much hassle for him and he was very rude. Manager tried to sort it out but no apology and didn’t really seem to care. My husband asked if the calamari was nice… the waiter said he wouldn’t know as they aren’t allowed it! We are very regular customers of pizza express with our children, won’t go back to the Hove one. the service was shocking. The Brighton one or Marina seem much better. I guess it must be franchised and Hove pizza express left us irritated… not a great place. I think with some better more friendly waiters and better management it has potential to be as good as the other pizza express restaurants we have been to.

The chefs are not exactly pushed off their feet with five tables to serve yet they completely miss the mushrooms from a chicken and mushroom pasta. Unbelievable.

I always think the name doesn’t give the right impression about the restaurant. It sounds a bit cheap(like Burger King or KFC) but it’s much nicer than that. I originally went to one in Guilford before realising this one was just down the road. The pizza is how pizza should be before it was«americanised». There’s a nice outdoorsy section to eat which is great for the summer. Staff are pleasant and don’t bug you every 5 minutes asking if your ok.

Hadn’t been to Pizza Express in ages, so my wife and I thought we’d give it a go. The service was friendly and the atmosphere is actually nice considering this is essentially a fast food chain. Sadly, I can’t really say anything too great about the food. We ordered some starters and then a 14″ thin crust style pizza to share. The pizza was nicely seasoned and freshly cooked, with a nice light and fluffy crust. However, I have seen more toppings on a 99p Iceland pizza! There were 4 miniscule pieces of meat and a shred of pepper. That was it. I thought that was a bit much for 12 quid. I honestly don’t understand the hype about this place or how it is always so busy. We won’t be going back. The food is ok and freshly made, but surely you can get much better for less money. Our total bill was over 20 quid plus tip and we both left still feeling hungry and unimpressed.

Always reliably good and also a nice place to go with kids, they are really tolerant of families in all their chain and the food always goes down well. The dough balls are to die for and the pizzas great too.

this place has a nice environment, and friendly to me and my partner. staff were all helpful and well presented, and the food was fine. its not 5 star dining hence only a 4 star rating, but as above 2 for 1 is a great deal and we only paid £24 including wine!

Another chain, I know. Aren’t they all the same you ask? Well, yes and no. The great thing about chains is that you know what you’re getting. If you like them, you’re set: they are reliable and you feel comfortable with what they have to offer. Obviously, it’s joy to be experimental and go to different places where there is a chance to be pleasantly surprised or exquisitely disappointed, but if you’re being lazy and want to ensure a certain standard then chains work. Pizza Express on Church Road is part of a chain, but in fairness, not a bad one. I have enjoyed quite a lot of food at Pizza Express, more so in fact, than at some of the city’s «authentic» Italians. They also do a great range of pizzas for supermarkets that are unrivalled in taste. Anyway, back to Hove. This is a charming little restaurant with a beautiful outdoor space. The staff here are polite and like many of Hove’s establishments, don’t seem to be so run off their feet that common courtesy is forgotten. I knew what food and the quality I was going to get before I walked in, but I didn’t know how quaint the set up was and how the lovely staff would make my evening. It’s easy to dismiss chains, but sometimes this can make all the difference. It did for me!
