If you add up all the time I’ve spent on Ashton Lane it probably comes out not at hours or even days but probably about 2 weeks. Why then, have I left it until now to visit The Wee Curry Shop? It’s always been there. I like curry. What have I been doing? Clearly I am a bit of a fool. I can only comment on the food I got to take out, which I did because I was dining alone and because I needed to get back to the office. If that doesn’t sound like a fun day it’s because it wasn’t one but this was definitely the highlight. I ordered spinach chicken and basmati rice. I waited in the lovely little restaurant while it was bring prepared. It’s a really nice space, although I did feel a bit under-dressed to be there. I’d love to get dressed up and come back for a date night or something. At some point the restaurant manager realised the chef was cooking my chicken bone-in and came over to ask if that would be ok. He was very attentive — I assured him it would be fine. I’d noticed that this was a Mother India restaurant and well… that name is good enough that I’d trust their chefs with almost anything. The food was delicious. I had a huge hunk of perfectly tender chicken in a fragrant sauce packed with really fresh spinach. Is it weird that I was really enthusiastic about the rice? I normally don’t care that much about rice — it’s kind of just their to soak up the curry sauce — but this time it was amazing. There’s a discount if you order food to take away so this was also surprisingly inexpensive. My partner is jealous that I went here without him so I think we’ll be back soon. I definitely recommend it if you’re in this part of the West End and in the mood for a curry.

Magic wee Indian, the inside looks like a cross between a1960s train food carriage, and if the Queen was to open up her own Indian in Glamis Castle.

A very grand name, the Glasgow Curry Shop, it must serve the best Indian food in the city you’d think! It’s also sister restaurant to the highly regarded Wee Curry Shop, so it must be good. It’s certainly cutesy, its very intimate, the walls are festooned with themed photos, and the whole place feels very comforting. We went for the thali menu for lunch. I had the Spicy Keema Dosa and the Lamb with Spinach Leaf. The dosa was not spicy, but it was flat and it was small, and the Lamb with Spinach Leaf was okay, it was nicely cooked lamb but in a base curry sauce, with a couple of spinach leaves just put on top. Okay is all it was I’m afraid, names can be deceiving!

Friendly, great menu, and fantastic location. Unfortunately I didn’t find the food as appetizing as everyone had hyped it up to be. They have great lunch specials, so I recommend going for lunch if you have the time!

I had no idea this wee place was here unti last week. It’s a fun place to eat. It’s a bit strange walking in… it feels like you’re walking in the wrong door because you walk in to the till! BUT… it smells so good because you’re practically walking in to the kitchen. The place is very small, maybe a dozen little tables. The staff are very polite. The menu is small, very cheap for the West End, and the food is really good! It doesn’t have quite the ambiance that some of the other places have, but it’s still enjoyable. I’d definitely eat here again.

Cute little Indian down the bottom of Byres road — excellent place to go for lunch, with various bite size options available 12−2pm. The thali option is a bargain at ~£7, giving you a small meat dish, lentil dish, rice, chapati and lime pickle/yoghurt dips — perfect payday lunch fare.

Been here a few times with my girlfriend. It’s reasonably priced for Ashton Lane and their menu is pretty small but they have amazing authentic Indian dishes.

Went to the Ashton Lane restaurant and it was quite abysmal. The service was good and friendly but the food was terrible. The nan was undercooked in fact it was like getting a piece of heated dough rather than cooked bread. How can an Indian restaurant not cook a nan properly? The veg was undercooked and some of the combinations didn’t work. The leek with the paneer failed on so many levels. The sauces for the Muttar paneer and the mixed veg curry were the same… there are only 3 vegetarian dishes on the menu. The least they could do would be to at least use a different sauce. The wine was poured without allowing us to sample for corkage and to round it off we were given a fudge toffee after the meal with the bill. Never in any restaurant anywhere in the world have I been given a toffee after a meal. All in a terrible food experience which is a shame as I was looking forward to the place after reading great reviews. On the upside the aubergine fritter and veg pakora starters were good Wont be back in a hurry that’s for sure

We had never been to The Wee Curry Shop on Byres road before but after our visit on Friday night I would highly recommend it. The food was extremely authentic, with a very small menu with authentic Indian dishes on it. When we arrived we were given a delicious little appetizer, which I think is always a really nice tough. There were 4 of us and we ordered 2 starters between us which were more than enough as the portions were very generous. We then had a main course each and shared a boiled rise, fried rice and 2 parathas. We were comfortably full at the end of the meal. The food was delicious and the service was great, which was surprising as there was only 2 staff members tending to the whole of the restaurant, which wasn’t that big but it was still impressive as the restaurant was packed. The bill was only £80 for the 4 of us and we had also consumed 2 bottles of wine, a very reasonable price! The Wee Curry Shop on Byres Road. definitely worth a return visit.

Great food, in a tiny little corner of a big city. The Wee Curry Shop is unique in the fact that it houses around a handful of tables, with a consistently wee menu in terms of options, a vegetarian would be going hungry. The taste of Indian food here is better than expected, my boyfriend loves this place because he thinks its his own little secret find. I guess this is the reason many who love The wee Curry Shop do, they all think it as a little personal place for them, that they have found, and they can go to have good food. I agree, I like that when I feel like a curry I have the perfect place to go.

I’ve only had takeaway from here. It has always been of a very high standard — typically 10 pounds for a starter, main and rice, which means two get a very good meal for 20quid. For the quality I think this is a good price. The pakoras are the best I’ve ever had. The mains are typically on the spicy side but in a way that brings out the flavour rather than the heat. I highly recommend the takeaway and full intended trying the sit-in restaurant.

Are you a vegetarian, a carnivore, a lover of Indian food? Maybe you’re in need the briefest of lunchtime pitstops? If you’re dithering about where to go for lunch in Ashton Lane(by Hillhead Subway just off Byres Road in Glasgow’s West End) you might be pleasantly surprised with what’s on offer at the Wee Curry Shop. We headed up the stairs above Jinty McGinty’s pub and found a very wee restaurant indeed. I had a quick scan of the regular menu, but chose to go for the lunchtime thali deal at 5.95gbp. One of us had the chicken thali, one had the vegetarian thali. Each person got two curries, a bowl of rice, a piping hot chapati, a small pot of raita and a small pot of chutney. Both meals were bursting with flavour and we were delighted with our choice. Service was pleasingly prompt. I will definitely be going back to the Wee Curry Shop. Heading out of Ashton Lane and down the Byres Road we spotted another branch of the Wee Curry Shop; part of the Mother India restaurant chain. I’m only too pleased to spread the gospel having enjoyed such a lovely lunch. The big man was with me and although the portions weren’t huge, they were a perfect size for that time of day, and we both felt nicely filled. Highly recommended!

Great Indian food is one of the things I love about Scotland. One of my favorite places is the Wee Curry Shop. Another jewel in the Ashton Lane crown. This place is a wee small, but the food is much more than just wee good. Everything I have had here is delicious and the service is always friendly…

This is well named as it is tiny, a bit like a living room but don’t let that put you off the food. It is very good, cooked freshly. I’ve been at lunch time for a quick meal which doesn’t break the bank.

Hatte schon 2 Mal das Vergnügen hier essen zu dürfen! Der wohl kleinste und feinste Inder der Stadt — also nichts wie hin! Aber denk an die Reservierung ;)

This is a fabulous dinky little restaurant above Jinty’s on Ashton Lane. It’s quite unique as an intimate, and contemporary styled restaurant. The food is equally delicious, with a really innovative, creative menu. I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to curry, as much as I adore it, and the one I had almost took the lining of my mouth off but that was purely my fault for not asking them to make it mild for a wuss like me, as I am sure they would have done.
