I read tons of reviews of this place and was eager to try it out! It definitely topped expectations. My friend and I went during the evening of a December and they had lovely fairy lights up which definitely added to the mood(perfect for a date night I would say!). We opted for the set meal menu and got bread to start. Bread itself was amazing and came with cheese butter & balsamic vinegar. I had the lamb rump as my main which was served with herb-y potato mash(divine!) And my friend had steak. Desserts were probably just as good — sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble topped with cinnamon ice cream. I usually love dessert more than my mains but both courses were just amazing. Menus change often and you could tell everything was also freshly made. Service was flawless, waiters were attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend you try this if you haven’t yet!

I visited The Scullery for an anniversary dinner with my boyfriend. Overall, it was a very nice dining experience! It’s a small restaurant, and seats maybe only 20 people. The tables are very close together, to the point where I could have quite easily joined in on the conversation the girls next to us were having. I found this a tad off putting. The service was very prompt and friendly. Neither of us were drinking alcohol, but the drinks selection looked good. I can recommend the Virgin Emily mocktail. For starter, I had haggis cakes which were delicious, and my boyfriend had the goat’s cheese and beetroot salad which was served warm and was very tasty. I was slightly disappointed by the mains. As someone who doesn’t eat a lot of red meat, I always appreciate a good chicken or fish option on a menu. Unfortunately, there was no chicken option and the only fish option was, essentially, fish and chips. I opted for the fish and chips, and it was OK. My boyfriend got the lamb, which was very good. It’s worth noting that their menu is seasonal, so don’t go off what they have on the website. Other options available included steak, a burger, pork belly, duck and a vegetarian curry. The deserts were probably the highlight! I had a rich chocolate brownie, with raspberry sorbet. My boyfriend had the most amazing sticky toffee pudding — possibly the best I’ve ever had. It melted in the mouth and was served with butterscotch sauce. Definitely leave room for desert! 3 courses for two people, with only soft drinks came to £60.

One of my favorites during our 4 day trip in Glasgow/Edinburgh. Great ambience and the food was delicious. My husband and I wanted something«Scottish» for dinner and we were both very pleased with the experience. Not sure if they take reservations but if you plan to go for a a special occasion I would recommend it as it filled up fast while we were dining.

I visited this smart restaurant with some work colleagues on a Thursday night back in June. We adore the Finnieston area, there are so many trendy places to eat and drink AND its only a short stroll away from work, we decided The Scullery was where we would head. We had booked a table for 6.30pm however upon arrival the waiter seemed surprised and looked very sheepish when taking our reservation details. We were seated but told we would need to leave by 8pm. I really can’t knock the food. We started with the sharing camembert which consisted of a large oozing bowl of cheese with some toasted bread to dip. This was gorgeous, really. This was the first time I’d ever eaten camembert, man had I been missing out! It was deliciously creamy and disgracefully gooey in the best kind of way. The bread to cheese ratio was way out of whack and we had to order more bread to get through the bubbling cheese(which was charged at £1.50 for 3 small pieces of bread!). For my main I was drawn in by a steak burger which came with a side of chips, mustard coleslaw and a dip. Yep I know, me and burgers eh! The steak was AMAZING beautifully cooked(I make no apologise for being a ‘well done’ kinda girl) and well seasoned, it tasted like a good quality hunk of meat. The chips alone were nothing to write home about but were instantly transformed when paired with the mustard coleslaw. I didn’t have love for the dip. It was a strange kind of tomato ketchup meets watered down jam concoction. Hideously sweet and not really adding anything to the dish. It was also really cold — would have perhaps been much better at room temperature. But… all in all a solid, tasty, satisfying meal. The service wasn’t attentive here. Considering it is a small restaurant our glasses sat empty for quite some time. As mentioned earlier, we were told we would either need to leave or move tables by 8pm. Being 6:45pm by the time we’d all arrived we had hoped we would have finished eating by 8, but girls dining and gossiping over wine is not a thing to be rushed. There was a very large group dining that evening and it appears that the restaurant may had over booked. At just before 8pm we were asked to move tables — mid way through eating our mains. This wasn’t great as you can imagine and is what really let down my enjoyment of this experience. Would I come back? Yes, the food was great. The service needs improvement.

A very good meal and good service. Beautifully cooked mussels followed by tender sea bass. One minus point was that only 2 vegetarian dishes were on the menu with risotto option not available when I visited at 5pm on a Saturday. However, I would definitely re-visit as the food quality was excellent.

I honestly have never had anything bad to eat here. I’ve been three times now; the first two occasions I was entertaining guests for work and the third was lunch with a friend. The food is always very fresh & the menu changes seasonally. This last occasion I had eggs Benedict with Parma ham(menu says Serrano but it was Parma) which was delicious but could have used a 3rd egg and muffin! Settled doe chocolate brownie with salted caramel Icecream instead

Went here last week on a sunny Thursday night… service was a little slow as it was probably busier than normal as the sun had made a rare appearance. We had some bread and olive oil to start and pan fried sea bass for our main and the food made up for the slow service. Not a huge menu to choose from but it would seem what they do do they do very well. I would definitely recommend if in the finneston area.

Great little bistro in the heart of Finnieston. Cosy and friendly, catering for all ages. We had the lunch menu which is snacks, sandwiches, burgers and platters. There is a larger menu which they serve in the evening and has offers such as a burger and pint for a tenner on a Tuesday which is a good deal . Lunch today was a bountiful smoked salmon sandwich with a side order of fries. It was nicely presented and very tasty. My friend had a halloumi and veg on brown bread which looked great. Plenty of veggie options which I like to see and I am really keen to return at night to see what the atmosphere is like . Finished lunch with a great cappuccino and went happily on my way.

Underwhelmed is the best word I can think of to describe our dining experience here last night. I came away with very few positives and whilst it wasn’t a bad meal by any means(I’ve had a lot worse), I certainly won’t be eating here again any time soon. First impressions of the space were ok, it’s nicely laid out and well enough finished but not likely to win any design reviews, and as we made our way to the wee table for two booth by the window — a nice little recessed space — it would’ve been nice if the large crumbs of food had been swept away from the floor. And that set the tone for the meal I think, it wasn’t bad but there seemed to be a lack of attention to detail, or lack of care taken with almost everything. We got our drinks orders taken promptly and looked at the menu. A lot of nice sounding dishes and as we hmmmm-ed and hawwwww-ed the waitress came back and seemed a little surprised we weren’t ready to order. Perhaps she was just bored, it was a quiet Tuesday night after all. A few minutes later she was back so we ordered, avoiding the starters, and I ordered the Chicken Breast, served with mushrooms, buttered greens, a stack of crushed potatoes and a madeira sauce, a nice looking dish. I tucked in and enjoyed the mushrooms, a nice mix of varieties, and the asparagus which was well cooked(as in, not overcooked). The sauce was tasty if a little thin and the chicken breast was… well it was a chicken breast. Alas the potatoes weren’t seasoned, were dry and powdery which if nothing else soaked up some of the sauce. Overall it was ok, tasty enough but nothing special. Kirsty had the Cooley and chips, a generous portion of deep fried white fish which had a really thick batter, I tried a little and again it was nothing special. The batter was too thick and held a lot of grease so the fish was a little lost in the dish. Desserts next — Rhubarb and ginger crumble for Kirsty, Warm Chocolate Brownie with salted caramel ice cream and hazelnut brittle. I tried a little of the crumble, it was pretty tasty so that was good. My brownie was good, moist and a hint of dark chocolate in there really helped make it seem a little more decadent than I think it was. The hazelnut brittle was ok but some bits were definitely on the burnt side, and the salted caramel ice cream wasn’t really noticeable of being anything other than ice cream. I think the ‘salted caramel’ bit was the powder/dust the ice cream was sitting on but it didn’t really make any impact on my tastebuds at all. For the quality of the food and service it seemed a little on the pricey side, and the staff were friendly enough without being particularly welcoming; what price a smile! Safe to say that the entire experience had few redeeming features. I won’t be back in a hurry.

After visiting the Scullery for the wine night, I decided it would be the perfect place for a late lunch with my Mum. Great decision, I love the intimacy of the small place, with quite close tables, but not so close you can hear the table next to you breathing. I didn’t recognise the wines on the menu from the wine night, suggesting they change their wines reguarly, which I like! I had amazing fishcakes with a lovely homemade hollandaise sauce, Mum had a huge BLT with chips. The chips were definitely homemade and when you walked passed the kitchen, you saw the chef with a big knife and plenty of potatoes!(None of the pre-frozen chip stuff). I was still slightly peckish, so decided to have a scone. Just as well we only ordered one. The scones are huge and again homemade(an ever so slightly burnt bottom). There is so much cream and jam on them, that when you cut them, they topple! The burgers also looked excellent. Going to return at some point for breakfast or dinner, or both!

I was so excited to try the newest place in Finnieston. We managed to get a table early on a Saturday evening which suited us perfectly. The décor was minimal but in a good way. It was dark and cozy… Until the door opened and it was freezing again. Menus and drinks arrive it’s time to make our selections. A member of our party had a question about some options and the waitress got super defensive and a little cheeky. So not the greatest customer service I’ve experienced. I went for the scallops and black pudding. It was Slightly warm and nice however this was a whopping 9 quid! So maybe I was just expecting it to be phenomenal! I had just put down my fork and my plate was whipped away from me and and my main arrived minutes after. Quick! I went for the mussels and fries. The mussels were bland and the chips were nice. So at this point we have been in this restaurant for 45 minutes! Feeling slightly I’ll due to the quickness I decided not to go for a desert. We opted for the bill. Dinner in a hour! That’s almost fast food.

I popped in here for brunch a couple of weeks ago. I was quite surprised when I first walked in the door as the set up was quite different to what I had imagined based on the name and descriptions in other reviews that I had read. For some reason, I had expected something a lot more shabby chic/rustic looking and probably somewhere with a slightly more cosy gastropub vibe. I would say this has more of a minimalist modern bistro/café bar vibe. I absolutely loved the floor to ceiling windows, which creates a bright, friendly feel to the place. It’s well worth trying to secure a window seat. To eat, I ordered a grilled halloumi and beetroot hummus sandwich, which came with dressed salad leaves on the side(£5.25). I also ordered a portion of scullery fries. I really enjoyed the sandwich, the halloumi was thick and tasty within the granary bread without having that trademark rubbery squeak to it. The beetroot hummus was nice enough but, if anything, I could have done with a spot more for a better overall impact in the taste stakes. The salad dressing was light and delicious. The fries were pretty tasty too despite them blowing my hopes of a lighter bite! The one member of staff taking orders was attentive, friendly and knowledgable about the menu. Overall I was impressed. The brunch menu offered good value for money with the service timings just right. I liked the fact that gluten free(inc bread) was offered as an option throughout the menu. The scullery is accessible and spacious for those on wheels & there were a few small children in attendance. I didn’t notice the disabled/changing facilities and so can’t comment on that side of things. I’m moderately intrigued by the dinner menu and might come back to try it at some point, although — nice as the scullery is — it’s probably not exciting enough to make the top 5 on my «hit list.»

High high hopes. That’s how I would describe my expectations for The Scullery. There has been a good amount of hype and a lot of excellent reviews which meant I was very much looking forward to dinner last night. First impressions were mixed for me. I like the open brick work and mirrors, but the seats were like something from a primary school classroom. They had two beers on draft, shiehallion and an Italian lager. I had the former, but also got the chance to have a taster portion of the menbrea lager that was on offer. For starters I had scallops and black pudding. It was fine, but nothing special and for 9.95 for a starter I was expecting fantastic. For mains I had a flat iron steak which was done medium rare. The waitress told us the chef likes this cut as it has far more taste, I’m not convinced. The steak was smallish and it tasted pretty average to me. Nothing to shout about and if I return I would not have the steak again. There is one more thing to mention. The speed of service was ridiculously fast. Starters out a few mins after ordering. Mains within seconds of the starters being cleared. The bill also landed like everyone was on fast forward. I have rarely had such a rushed meal and it was a real shame. Like they were super keen to turn the table over and get us out. 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 drinks, was 101 quid. So 25-ish quid a head. Not crazy expensive, but I expected a bit more in terms of service and food standard. All in not a bad meal, but for me a big case of style over substance. It has the right location and image, but does not deliver the quality that it should.

Another year, another birthday, and this time it was my turn. To ease the pain a nice meal out with friends was in order and The Scullery proved a great choice. I’d booked beforehand for our party of thirteen + a baby, and had been messaging them direct on Facebook with a few questions about menu choices etc. They don’t have a website, but the Facebook responses were always quick, and friendly. The menu didn’t feature the chocolate brownie which I’d heard great reviews about, and when I inquired they said they’d put it on as a special, which was a nice touch. So on a cold and icy night we all ventured out to Claremont Street and despite getting a little lost(in fact we walked round in a large circle thanks to good old Google maps), the restaurant is in fact very easy to find just a short walk from the Exhibition train stop). Warmly welcomed at the door its all soft lighting and wood panelling — very paired back yet cosy(although personally we all did think some pictures on the wall to complement the wall of mirrors would have been a nice touch). As usual with a large party we didn’t have a huge amount of room at the table. We noted later there was another larger party at the small area downstairs which might have been a better choice. The waitress was friendly and took our drinks orders whilst we browsed the menu. Skipping starters there’s some unusual main course offerings like pigs cheeks although no one was brave enough to try. There’s only a few veggie options — a butternut and goats cheese risotto which my friend had and a falafel burger which I opted for. Falafel can be pretty dry but the spices and tomato salsa meant it was full of flavour and I really enjoyed it wtih a nice salad(swapping the chips). Other options we tried included the flat iron steak, burgers, and the mussels. All were happily polished off, although a slightly larger portion of the mussels would have been welcomed. It was a little drafty inside,(but then it is the middle of January), and a few bourbons and some wine meant this didn’t matter much. Throughout our meal the service was very efficient. Not overly friendly but really professional and the staff were really observant. Moving onto desserts, the specials board(which we only noticed at this point), had a dark chocolate tort with Chantilly cream. This sounded great and I was surprised that my earlier brownie request had still been honoured and was pleased when the waitress offered it as a choice. So the advantage of having lots of folks eat together… you can order more desserts! A few of us went for the brownie which was a lovely texture although I would have liked more sauce/topping. When I tasted my partners chocolate tort the lovely sauce /ganache like topping was delicious and we both agreed the topping of the tort + the brownie would have been the ideal choice. The lemon posset was apparently delicious as was the Affogato and my friend loved her unusual spicy mulled wine sorbet. When the bill came we noted the service charge had been included, but were all happy to pay; especially given that everything was reasonably priced and the service had been great from the onset. The brunch and lunch options look really good and I’ve heard they do a mean tea and scone, so I’m definitely going to bookmark The Scullery for a revisit.

So I’d heard some good murmuratons about The Scullery and decided it was high time we went to check it out. I wasn’t in the slightest bit disappointed! Inside it was warm and cosy, pared back brickwork, lots of raw wood and just enough comfortable edges to make it feel cosy! Our starters, golden wedges of fried halloumi with orange, walnut and rocket and my hot smoked salmon, crushed potatoes, wasabi and pea shoots were refreshingly different and absolutely delicious. The slow roast pigs cheek and butternut squash with goats cheese risotto that followed were devoured! Given that we had already eaten as much as we had, the desserts should have been politely waved away but not tonight, I am an absolute sucker for an affogato, especially if it is Dear Green coffee that is dousing some seriously creamy ice cream and the warmed up chocolate tart went down a storm across the table! The staff were charming and helpful, really friendly and more than willing to offer advice. I’m looking forward to a repeat visit!

Popped in for a quick lunch with a friend to celebrate our frienniversary(believe me I’m more embarrassed than you for coming up with that) and was looking forward to coming here as I’ve heard a lot of good things. Looks a lot more like a café than I thought it would, but I was pleased about that, it’s nice and laidback and kind of reminds me of The Left Bank which is no bad thing. I went for the eggs Florentine and my friend ordered the pastrami sandwich. Both were excellent value(around £5.75) and served very quickly, and with a smile. Lovely fresh poached eggs and an excellent hollandaise sauce, and the sandwich looked delish. We got some fries on the side which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside = perfect fry. The coffee was also fab(it may be Dear Green coffee, but I’m not positive) and its on an ideal corner for people spotting. No regrets about going here and keen to try some of the small and large plates for a dinner next time. Also many thanks to the staff and patrons who alerted me to the fact I left my phone on the table! Whoops… The food was clearly too good, I was distracted!

Popped in here for an impromptu lunch last Friday, hoping it would cheer up a slightly rubbish morning. Well it did that and more — cosy, welcoming place with a simple and well-priced menu full of things you really want to eat. I had a couple of small plates — the IPA-braised beef short rib and mash and the gin-cured smoked salmon — and they were so much better than I expected, outstanding flavours. With a generous side salad and a massive coffee to finish I went back out into the world much happier than when I arrived. It’s testament to the place that just a few weeks after opening, it was full on a Friday lunchtime, despite not yet having a booze licence. I heard the owner talking about plans for music and comedy and more — exciting times ahead. So happy this place is close to where I live. It might just be the perfect neighbourhood bistro.

This place has achieved two huge things already: delicious food served up in a warm, cosy and welcoming atmosphere. And they’ve only been open a week! I’ve been watching the Scullery for a while now and couldn’t wait to try it out when it opened. We visited for Friday lunch and even though it was only their third day of lunch service, it was pleasantly bustling with customers and had a really great vibe to it. There’s two menus available at lunch time, one with sandwich options(ranging from £5.50 — £6.25 with fillings of halloumi, chicken breast, pastrami, salmon or BLT) and also the full menu which is also available at night. It was when I looked at the full menu that I knew this place would suit me perfectly — I love a small plate, and I also love the idea of dishes for the table. This includes a baked camembert, cheese platter or charcuterie platter. There’s a load of locally sourced items on the menu, like west coast mussels, Scottish steaks, Lanark sorbet/ice cream and George Mewes cheese. The menu is different enough to be interesting, but not so different that less-adventurous eaters won’t be able to find something to try. I wanted to order everything on the menu and really struggled to narrow down my options. I ended up going for the flat iron steak at £16.75 with fries, tomato, watercress and bearnaise sauce(this is why I shouldn’t be allowed to go out on a Friday for lunch). In the meantime I had a cup of peppermint tea as well as a bottle of the raspberry crush which was really lovely. At the moment, the Scullery doesn’t have a booze licence but I’m sure that won’t be far away. For now, it’s BYOB. My steak arrived and I was delighted — it was a thing of beauty. The plating was absolutely amazing and I loved the bright colours of the tomato and the watercress. Thankfully it wasn’t just beautiful to look at, it was also delicious. The bearnaise was super thick and decadent and served in the right proportion to the steak. The steak was cooked medium rare and while it needed a bit more seasoning, that’s more due to my tastes than any fault of the kitchen. I loved the hand cut chips with the skin on and the vine tomatoes were really nicely cooked. We then opted for dessert(it was a Friday!) and I had the sorbet which was super refreshing. I tried the apple and champagne flavours(did I mention it was a Friday?) but there’s also pear and lemon. Service was really great, the waitress we had was super chatty and a good laugh which added to the warm atmosphere of the place. She even let us try a slice of the gluten free bread when I was considering getting a sandwich for lunch. All up, lunch at the Scullery was a real delight and I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu. While this place is a little off the main Finnieston strip, it’s definitely worth that extra wee wander down to try something a bit exciting.

The décor at The Scullery is über cool laid back chic — exposed brick walls, nice seating and comfy chairs, cool mirrors and lighting, basically it’s everything you want from a contemporary local hot spot in finnieston. I was seated at the window table which I completely loved — it’s a small table for 2, whenever I pop in I’m definitely going to ask for that table. The staff were lovely and incredibly friendly, you can tell they’re a new crew because at times the service felt ever so slightly stilted and awkward. However it’s only day 3 of service so I’m not in any way concerned about it — I would imagine if I pop in for dinner next friday they will be like a well oiled machine so no biggie in my opinion. The menu is completely up my street and I genuinely could of eaten 95% of the menu. It’s a menu which is designed to make us feel lush and cosy through these cold winter months ahead. I really loved that you could eat tapas style from the menu selecting from the large selection of very tempting starters… clever! While we were in I saw 2 tables dining exactly that way. I had that salmon to start which was probably my favourite dish — it was a huge portion and tasted perfectly balanced. With our starter I was keen to try the Finnieston Bakery artisan bread with 3 dips which included a lovely creamy butter, oil & balsamic and an amazing beetroot humus which I was just eating straight with a fork by the end. Big plus point you get lots of the dip, I hate places which are stingy and you run out. I knew what I was having for my main before I walked in the Pork Belly with carrot purée, black pud and buttery mash. It was so delicious — the pork was sweet and tender and the black pud was the perfect accompaniment and it tasted so nice. I had a side of scullery fries which were hand cut, plus points for making their own skinnys! They did looked slightly peely wally and soft — I enjoyed them and demolished the portion, Mr Geek wasn’t a fan tho. For dessert I had the vegan chocolate and orange brownie which was dense, gooey, thick, warm and perfect! I also tried a scoop of heather honey ice cream which was insanely good. The only thing I really disliked didn’t actually come out of the kitchen it came from the bar, the hot chocolate was really awful — it was made I think with water(bleugh!) it wasn’t rich and creamy like hot choc should be. This is a very small niggle but it’s worth mentioning. Also worth mentioning is that they are waiting on their liquor license coming through so they are accommodating a BYOB system at the moment, with corkage charges at £3.50 for a bottle of wine and 75p for a bottle of beer. I’ll let you decide how you feel about being charged corkage when their is no alternative alcoholic option. It didn’t bother me but I could imagine this might annoy some. So my first date with The Scullery was a great great success and I am already picking out my frock and dancing shoes for our second date. I look forward to spending many Sunday’s mornings here!
