Myself and a fellow suishi fan(atic) ordered Pickled Ginger delivery(Just Eat) so this is a review for the food only… Our order arrived promptly and the first thing I noticed was that it was quite a small bag for two hungry people! I ordered Salmon Sashimi which is one of my favourite things to eat and this was good quality and delicious. That being said, I have never had a bad salmon sashimi to help measure against! We also had octopus sushi rolls, california sushi rolls and a salmon avocado temaki cone which was big and always a bit tricky to eat, but thats the point right… We ordered on a 20% deal so it was £16 total which I would say is decent for what we got. Will most likely be going back there when I need a healthy, fresh and delicious delivery when at home. Leaves me feeling pretty great when compared with other takeaway food types!

I love sushi, I love it even more when it’s blowing a gale outside and it gets delivered straight to your door thanks to Just Eat. A friend and I shared some tuna sashimi, which was so fresh, I would definitely recommend this. Some avocado maki, because who doesn’t love avocado. Some salmon maki, some california rolls some Prawn Katsu rolls and some stir fried vegetables. The prawn katsu roll was my second favourite, to the tuna sashimi, which is controversial as the prawn is cooked. Is it, isn’t it sushi?! Either way the whole thing was damn tasty. The delivery took about an hour, which given the weather and that it was 7pm on a Friday night seemed reasonable enough. Just Eat were giving 20% off for orders over 20 pounds or more, which essentially meant we didn’t pay the 2 pound delivery fee. I will definitely be visiting here for one of the lunch time deals.

Highly recommend! We had California maki, California roll and tempura chicken to start — delicious! Then we had Teriyaki Chicken & Chicken Udon for main — both superb, but Chicken Udon won hands down! We will definitely be back!

Two important things up first. 1. This isn’t just a sushi place. I had got it into my head that it mainly was. Not sure if it was the marketing of it, but I had delayed going as it ain’t something I had really got into. 2. They don’t take card still, but they did tell us right at the start and there is a cash line a couple of doors along. I loved this place. It has a Totally cool vibe going on. It’s almost like you are transported to a very modern Tokyo bar, well until you hear some of the locals accents. :) The chilled out house music(I think that’s how you would describe it, perhaps also urban funk) playing constantly is pretty cool and the décor is very on trend and a bit futuristic. Safe to say I loved it from the moment I sat down. The menu seems to have options mainly from Japan, but also a couple from South Korea. For starters we had amazing crispy pot sticker gyosas with soy sauce. They were a mix of pork, herb and vegetable and were really good. For mains we both avoided Japanese altogether and went with a Korean feast feast of bulgoki and jeyuk bokkeum. These are perfect dishes to share. They both come with lettuce leaves, sauce and rice. The first comes as mini bits of beef steak and the second is more like a pork bolognese.(Korean food is very different from most other Asian cuisine) The idea is almost like fajitas with lettuce leaves instead of bread for the wraps. On the side we also had some super tasty pickled veg which was also bloody good. All in the food came to less than 19 quid each and that included 3 drinks. The atmosphere was great, the service was really friendly and the food tasted pretty authentic to me. In my opinion this is the best restaurant on the Finnieston Strip.

Love love love, this place!!! I have been wanting to try pickled Ginger for ages but something has always stopped me going! Maybe because I thought it was just sushi they served! I was so wrong! The contemporary décor makes you feel like you have been transported to a very modern bar in the middle of Tokyo! The red neon lights outside with the cool Japanese lanterns inside and a mixture of chilled out house to funky house music in the background make me want to go back time and time again. We arrived about 16:30 so it was still early and the place wasn’t overly busy but by the time we left it was bustling! The staff were friendly and welcoming! We were brought paper menus kinda in the style of a place mat, it even had a little sushi etiquette on the side. Lots of food to choose from — I am the happiest person right now! I was told that I couldn’t order everything so I had to make a decision. We decided to share a couple of dishes including some Gyoza’s. We actually ended up with 2 Korean dishes which were superb. Bulgoki and Jeyuk Bokkeum! Both served with rice and lettuce to wrap your meat in. We also ordered a dose of picked veg! Tasty! I had two sparkling waters and Austen M had a beer and the bill only came to £34 approx. Very reasonable considering how full I was. How long do I need to wait until I can go back?

The food and drink is nothing short of amazing; authentic yet a little larger to feed an European appetite which is a nice touch. However, everything else lets this place down; The sitting arrangement is awful unless you’re one of the lucky few to get one of the first three tables. We got seated in the back where unless you’re a size 8, you’ll be sitting up straight like your momma always told you to sit… The service bell was ringing insistently while the waitress was flirting with the guys at the improvised bar tightly placed across from the rear tables. She then decided to take their order even though they’ve just walked in and we were waiting for the best part of half an hour. The food was a little erratic to come out but no one in the party had to wait too long. The nail in the coffin for us was however, that AFTER… the end of a meal, we were told that they do not take cards!!! In 2015! This summer I was on an out of the way beach in Spain and the lonely wee mojito stand had contactless payment… Ok… rant over. However, at this place you’re either supposed to walk out in the Glasgow cold to get cash or walk around with a wad of £75 -£100 just to pay for dinner. And forget it if you actually had financial plans and wanted to use a credit card! I think I’ll hold off my next visit until I see a sign for new management or when it is likely that the current waiting staff have moved on and the owner has realised that he needs to get down with… the naughties?

I am so pleased I happened to be driving past this place and spotted it just in time to swing into a side street and park up. I’ve been meaning to try this since I came to Glasgow and boy am I glad that I did! It was a little worrying when the three of us entered as she asked if we had a reservation, which we didn’t, but it was an early dinner late lunch at 5pm so they managed to seat us. The atmosphere was interesting, it’s quite trendy, verging on the cusp of hipster. The best way I can describe it is modern retro with an Asian twist. Exposed lightbulbs, neon signs, and Asian lanterns. It’s an appealing combination. The staffs were great, very friendly and accommodating of our vast sushi order. I tried avocado maki, spicy chicken rolls and pot sticker gyoza. It’s hard to go wrong with maki, which were fine but my gosh the spivey chicken rolls were sublime! Just the right level of tongue tingle spice, the katsu sauce and chicken were divine! The gyoza weren’t bad either: P I then tried their chicken kyatsu. My goodness. It’s certainly the most unusual I’ve ever tried! Instead of a curry it was a kyatsu glaze with a trickle of mayonnaise which gave it a very tangy taste. It was delicious but very unlike what I was expecting. Their cocktail list looked very impressive with some sort of mango Bellini and such. Alas I was on soft drinks. But my friend tried their sake and insists its the best he has ever had! Definitely give this place a try! Plus it was quite reasonable price wise. It’s more expensive than somewhere like Ichiban but the quality reflects that.

Always order from here on just eat when I’m not bothered cooking. The Katsu curry is so tasty, I always get it. If you can’t be bothered going to the offies for a carryout to go with your meal. Two cans of the Sapporo will rock your socks.

Popped in here for a drink with friends after dinner in Finnieston. I’ve been meaning to visit since it opened! I love the city vibe– neon lights and cool exposed lightbulbs. The staff were really friendly and the lovely waitress made me a mocktail(even though they don’t have a non-alcohol cocktail menu) and asked me what flavours I like. The tropical pink grapefruit concoction she made me was fresh, zingy and super yummy! My pals had to dash for a train after having less than half their drinks– when my boyfriend went to pay the bill the waitress said we weren’t charged for the unfinished drinks and then gave us a food menu to take home so we can come visit when we have more time! Really brilliant first impression of this funky little treasure. will be back to try the delish food: D

I was really excited to try here so when I was looking for somewhere quick to stop in and grab some lunch I thought I would pop in. My first visit I felt disappointed, not by the food, but by the staff. They were not very friendly or helpful. I popped in again today as I really fancied some of there chicken Katsu curry. To save waiting I phoned ahead to order it, when I made my order the girl said she’d need to work out the price for me when I got there, it took me a few minutes to realise I had not asked for the lunchbox special which is £4.95. The waitress said she’d get it changed. So I arrived to pick it up. The waitress(a different one from the last time I was in) like my first visit wasn’t very friendly or helpful. My order was ready but it was not in the lunchbox box so she took it back and asked the chef to change it. I could see their conversation and the chef did not look happy and the waitress said«I know» as if I had just walked in and changed my mind. I then had to wait another 5 minutes to get the curry. I have never sat in and after the service from the waiting staff on the 2 occasions I’ve been, puts me off even trying. The curry was delicious and I really enjoyed it hence the 3 stars. Although I was close to giving it 2.

I work just a hop and a skip from this end of the Finnieston strip so it’s surprising I’ve not been to Pickled Ginger before given my obsession with sushi. I popped in for lunch and asked about the takeaway menu – it’s the same menu as dine-in but 20% off and they also have lunch box specials. I opted for a Katsu Chicken box and some Salmon nigiri and sat outside in the sun(the what?!?) while I waited. My order actually came quite quickly so I skipped off back to my office to work and eat. The portion of the Katsu was in a super cute Chinese takeout box ala American movies and was HUGE! I couldn’t finish the rice and there was a full chicken breast with just the right amount of sauce so the chicken was covered but the rice wasn’t mushy. My sushi was lovely, too with the right amount of ginger and wasabi. I was really amazed at the value for money and the £4.95 lunch box is more than enough on its own to fill you up. I’ll definitely be back!

My fellow sushi loving friend and I headed to Pickled Gin last week after a mammoth bike run — we deserved it! As a lover of sushi I have been very keen to try here for my somewhat lacking sushi options. We went early so initially were the only folks in the place, usually I hate this but Id had a couple of gins by this point and was starving! First impressions, the place is small but perfectly formed. Clean and bright with some outdoor seating too, personally its not a road I would likely sit outside and eat but thats just me. The menus are large paper place settings and have a fun do’s and dont’s of sushi eating, kept us entertained! On offer are starters(or small dishes) inc miso, gyoza etc, mains such as katsu and ramen, bento boxes and a selection of sushi and sashimi. So the food… my friend and I decided to order a few selections and share. First we had the gyoza — amazing, 4 large lightly fried and delicious! Next up we had avocado maki, mackerel nigiri, prawn katsu roll and tuna sashimi. This was all brought out at the same time on very trendy slate boards. Accompanied by pickled ginger and round yellow ‘things’.I say things cause we couldn’t figure out where it was, pretty tasteless ether way. I enjoyed all of it, the prawn rolls I felt were slightly dry but otherwise it was great. The tuna sashimi was like butter in my mouth! I have no criticism really over the food, great value and quality. I would have liked slightly more on offer in the sushi section but thats all… and some edamame please!!! There was none on the menu We were served free minted water, and decided to try some cocktails. We were not disappointed! They seem to have managed to take great cocktails and add a Japanese twist. As a tequila lover my personal favourite was a Japanese style margarita(can’t remember the name sorry). Again I can’t remember what my friend had but it was delicious! Lastly, staff were great and attentive. Its been advertised as Finnieston, I’s say its more towards the city centre. I struggled to find it initially as I assumed it was up with the usual finnieston stops.

I seriously love sushi, and when I spotted the neon lights of Pickled Ginger, I knew this was somewhere I had to try. It’s a little off the Finnieston strip, closer to the city centre and used to be an Italian restaurant. You can easily park out the front or in the side streets if you’re driving. Inside, it’s a kind of small space with perhaps 20 seats. It’s nicely decorated and has a very fresh feel — it’s only been open about a month. I was meeting a friend for lunch(the lovely Val M, hey Val!) and had a look over the menu while I waited. I like the cute diagrams on the menu to show you the right way to eat sushi and the menu is easy to read and compact — there’s bento boxes, mains, sushi and sashimi. I decided to get the dragon rolls(£7.50 for 4), miso soup(£3) and wakame salad(£4). Food arrived quickly and generally, I was really happy with it. The dragon rolls were perfect, wrapped in salmon and tuna and incredibly fresh. I also liked the salad but thought it was a very small portion for the price. The miso soup was a little too watery for my liking. The bill was around £30 for two people for lunch(one soft drink) and so I thought that was a little steep(it’s even pricer than somewhere like Nanakusa). I did really like it here and I would definitely go back to try it again as I was impressed by the food.

I don’t think Glasgow is blessed with many good sushi places yet. I love Nanakusa, and like the varied menu at Nippon Kitchen, but I think I’ve just found a new favourite in Pickled Ginger!(are there more I don’t know about? Hit me up with suggestions!) The décor and music are laid-back and cool, the staff stylish and friendly. It’s a bit out from the Finnieston hub, but you certainly wouldn’t regret the extra 5 minute walk. They have an interesting cocktail menu, with Asian influences, such as the Karin with gin, sake and yuzu juice, which was my favourite! The menu is predominantly sushi, with some«small plates» and noodle dishes. We shared some really delicious gyoza — pork, tofu and egg — meaty and well-flavoured. We had tempura prawns which were tasty but not the lightest, crispiest batter I’ve ever had. The squid was similar, and my sister found it a bit too chewy. The sushi, however, was amazing. Salmon sashimi that melts in the mouth, simple salmon-skin maki, and a dragon roll, with prawns and salmon. We had to have another portion of sashimi, it was too delicious! On the waitress’ recommendation, we had some chocolate mochi which were totally divine — gooey rich chocolate ganache, wrapped in that strangely textured rice goo. Perfect sweet touch at the end of the meal.

I’ve always been a skeptic when it came to Japanese food. I’m not particularly impressed by the(affordable) Japanese food scene here in Glasgow, but I’d give Pickled Ginger a thumbs up judging from my overall experience tonight. I liked it a lot! It took a while for me and Gian to pay a visit, but I’m so happy we decided to go for a midweek date night! The place is lovely and contemporary, staff are also a friendly bunch and I noticed that they make their sushi fresh, which is always great. Also, there’s a Japanese sushi chef supervising in the kitchen so I expect nothing less than deliciousness on my plate haha The menu is small but that’s good to me because you can make decisions quicker. This also means the chefs can focus on specific food and constantly deliver high quality dishes! We ordered a sushi platter for 2; £23(with sushi according to the chefs choice) and 2 temaki; £3.50 each(hand rolls); one salmon and one tuna. Everything was fresh! The seaweed was crispy, the wasabi looked like it was hand made(wasn’t toxic green in colour), the fish all fresh and buttery, I really REALLY enjoyed it. With a refreshing cocktail called Nanase; £7(Gian chose it. Don’t remember what’s inside but it’s very minty) I really did think my night was great! Good way to relax and enjoy after a day at work. I’d definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some good quality sushi. Will definitely return!

Popped in for a quick lunch and was so pleased! The sushi was fresh and delicious! The California rolls and prawn katsu rolls were enormous and you might look a bit buffoonish stuffing them in your mouth but they’re worth it! We were driving so didn’t try the cocktails but the menu looked great. Lots of classics with Japanese twists. Staff were friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely be back!
