Nice and stylish Japanese restaurant in the town, food is tasty and reasonably priced.

OKO is an informal, no frills and supposedly fast joint for a quick Japanese style bite. Having just opened their second place now at the end of 2012 I decided to give my local Sauchiehall Street branch a shot. I went for some vegi dumplings to start. At just shy of 5 human pounds, a tad expensive considering the quality. I’ve had some stunning dumplings in Glasgow for cheaper, i.e. Opium or Chinatown restaurant. These unfortunately were not a patch. Nowhere near as fresh and fragrant. My main was quite simply deep fried chicken pieces with lashings of what tasted like Thai sweet chilli sauce. Now, I’m not saying I don’t like Thai sweet chilli sauce, in actual fact I would be happy to jump into a bath of Thai sweet chilli sauce, but to have a main meal comprising 50% of Thai chilli sauce is highly uninspiring(and terrible for you teeth). Mmm Thai sweet chilli sauce bath. Service was pretty slow, atmosphere, well, Moon-like I guess and overall, rather expensive I would say. If you’re after Japanese, I would recommend Nanakusa just up the road!

Newly opened(2012) branch of Glasgow sushi outlet Oko. Canteen style so plain and simple décor. No drinks licence yet but can bring your own and no corkage. Menu will be familiar to anyone who has eaten at a noodle bar before and the food was first class. Everything cooked to order with fresh and tasty ingredients. Service was fine and our meal was very good value. Highly recommended.
