OK so I have a love/hate relationship with the 3 tuns. I absolutely love, love, love them for their beers, you cannot go wrong, lots of Wiper and True and a variety of keg beers. 5 stars for the beer and the pub and the staff. So why only 2 stars? I had the tiny, cold, tasteless lamb and pomegranate on tacos. The food, disappointingly sad, pathetic, expensive, small meals, not tasty, not really quite as described, I felt let down and disillusioned by the 3 tuns in the food department. So yes go for a drink, but steer well clear of the food menu.

I hadn’t been to this pub since long before the arrival of the college so expected it to be somewhat different from the cheap dreary old mans pub of my younger years… On first impression it certainly looked a lot nicer but had also retained that pub feel which was nice. I was also pleased to see they had a few wines to choose from sold by the glass… but sadly even the most expensive was pretty discussing! They had a lovely outside area at the back that is so well covered it almost felt indoors and it was nice seeing a large group with a dog as it’s rare to find somewhere so central that allows dogs. Overall it’s a nice pub and if in the area is certainly go again, but not to drink wine!

There are some very large tables here so unless you are part of a big group then they encourage intersocialisation. Basically if you are going to meet a random in Bristol, this is the most likely place! And they have a few very decent choices in social lubrication!

With some great live mic nights, and some pretty good drink offers to attract the local students, and, well just the locals I guess! This is a lively pub that does what it can to keep each night entertaining and the atmosphere pumping. The real ales on tap are what pull in me and my mates, and I have never had a bad pint from here which is always good, because some publicans don’t know how to clean their pipes when it comes to ale, and can often leave some sitting in their over night or generally serve a rubbish pint without even realising.

Situated a few doors up from Bristol City College, this is certainly a pub most students would avoid at all costs. Although it attempts to appeal to passers by with Live Music Nights and food specials, The Three Tuns is fundamentally a drab old man’s local. I drank in this venue once, and quickly began to regret my decision. The atmosphere was dead, save for a couple of seemingly regular punters at the bar, and eighties cheese was blaring out of some old speakers. Needless to say, my friends and I drank up quickly and moved onto pastures new.(Hint hint.)

The Pub has had a makeover but has not been spoilt and still feels like an old Bristol Pub. New Irish Landlord Mark knows his beer and keeps a great selection of Real Ales. I went to see Gypsy’s Kiss(Irish Band) in Concert a busy evening but the friendly staff coped well and all round a great evening.
