I’ve been living in Hanover for a few months now and wish I had popped by this place sooner! I had the mushroom and haloumi stuffed aubergine, stuffed peppers, chorizo lasagne and chorizo stuffed chicken with hummus, olives and pitta(between 3 people). All of the food was light, full of flavour and very nutritious so I walked away cured of my previously dreadful hangover and feeling fresh(also thanks to the help of their detox juice which may become a hangover essential). I will definitely be going back frequently as I need to try everything! Also, the staff are lovely and very helpful, the desserts and smoothies looked amazing and there is a great selection of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian food products.

My family and I came to Brighton for a week, from the USA, and stayed across the street from this wonderful delicatessen. Every morning my sister and I came by for their amazing coffee and smoothies. The lattes were great, and Riyadh provided excellent customer service and a warm welcoming environment for us. Riyadh was so wonderful, it really added joy and satisfaction to our trip and family reunion in the UK. I highly recommend this place for everything fresh and organic including the pastries.

Really don’t see what all the fuss is about here… I live around the corner and would be thrilled to have a lovely Italian Deli to pop to now and again, but am not at all impressed by this place. Occasionally I have popped in and bought a few bits — absolutely gobsmackingly extortionate! Everything was pretty much on the turn or had already gone off. Not pleased. Bought a loaf of artisan bread which was so hard and stale you couldn’t even feed it to the ducks! Anyone seen ‘About a boy’? Yeah… Paid two quid for what I found to be 8 tiny cookies that were gross. The tomatoes were off as were the eggs, all equally expensive. Even the coffee’s not too great which is poor for an italian deli. Such a shame because it could have so much potential, great location for a lovely place, if only. The extra star is because of it stocking a few tinned and jarred things which are harder to get your hands on.

If you think yourself a bit of a foodie, but have weak willpower and an even weaker bank balance, this place could be trouble. The first time a set foot inside this family-run deli looking for something to eat, I ended up spending the best part of £30 on lunch. The Sardinian proprietor runs a fine racket in coercion. «Do you like parma ham?» he asks. «Well you have to try this!» Slicing free tasters of deep-rouge, salty cured meat, before I know it I had a bag-full of cured lamb, crumbly pecorrino, dry pressed apple juice and a whole lot else. Doubling up as a café, there’s a whole range of rustic, Mediterranean tarts, piquant salads, and Italian sweets on offer too. Pricey no doubt, this is high-end, top-quality fare, and you’ll forgive the salesmanship after the first taste.

Wild Cherry café is a new discovery of mine. I stumbled upon it on a ramble from Queen’s Park, drawn in by the aromatic display of herb plants outside, and stopped for a coffee and walnut cake in its pleasant outdoor space. Despite being on a road, the front patio is an enjoyable place to sit and survey the world — it’s a quiet road on a residential street, so the views aren’t astounding, but the architecture is pleasant enough and the occasional passerby is usually fairly picturesque. The food in here is handmade, organic and well chosen, and a lot of care has been taken to make and present it beautifully. It really is a brilliant find, both as a café and deli, and the prices, while not rock bottom, are definitely a shade off central Brighton ones, which makes it a lot more accessible. This fits very well with the whole ethos — they really have catered to everyone with their range of foodie options, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, nut free, and more. It’s not often I can eat vegan food and say truthfully that I didn’t notice its veganness, but here I did. It’s almost as though someone has opened up their house as a café and decided to share their dearest interests and recipes with the world. They’ve won awards, too — they’re a UKTV Food Hero, and have good reviews in spades. I really can’t think of a catch with this place, beyond its slightly out of the way location, but even that is a strength really, making it feel like a real find — it’s usually not packed, and if it were any more obvious, it would be, all the time. Delicious, friendly, ethical, organic and not that expensive — what more could you ask for?

A hidden gem of the Queen’s park area. We went here to escape the Wintery outside conditions and were shocked to find this delightful café deli. When you step inside you see a deli counter and not too much else, but as you walk through to an almost hidden back room, you pass a whole host of organic and global food products. At the end of the row of shelves you find yourself in what seems like a family living room, but that was no bad thing. The owner was so friendly, in addition to our great coffees, we were also supplied with some homemade delicacies. We were all so taken with the Wild Cherry that we ended up purchasing industrial size bags of their homemade coffee blend.

This is the loveliest deli I’ve found in Brighton, and that’s saying something, as they are a dime a dozen in this foodie town! Organic, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free…whatever your requirement, you’ll find something delicious. Wild Cherry specialize in homemade healthy food and it all tastes absolutely divine! I spent at least ten minutes staring at the selection of savoury treats… anchovie and vegetable strudel, vegetable quiche, chorizo and ham lasagne… everything looked mouth-wateringly good! Whatever you choose, it will come with a choice of salads(and we’re not talking lettuce and cucumber here!). The sweets are equally as enticing: one side of the shop is given over to all sorts of pastries, cakes and even homemade bread and butter pudding! The coffees are well made and a little cheaper than you might pay in the centre of town– a cappuccino and a chai latte cost £1.95 each. Wild Cherry is not only a lovely little café, perfect for breakfast and lunch– they sell all sorts of posh pickles and preserves, as well olive oils, biscuits and chocolates. This would be the ideal place to create a yummy Christmas hamper!
