With a gin selection like the office, this is a gin lovers dream! The menu has a vast choice with a description of the flavour notes which can really help when deciding. I opted for the King of soho gin which was full of grapefruit notes. The bottle was also amazing. They have g&Tea’s as well which I didn’t have this time but I’ve had it over the summer. They infuse the tea(earl grey or jasmine) and use that as the mixer. I’ve never eaten there but they have a Thai kitchen and the menu looks tasty so I’d like to try at some point. This is a must for any gin fanatic!

I was really disappointed by this place. I thought the gin selection was mediocre and could do with more on the list. The mixers are also limited. The outside garden is quite frankly disgusting. I think that this place needs an adrenaline injection. I feel like its just coasting along and isn’t trying to be the best. They need to do up the garden, get some decent tables and chairs, maybe some heat lamps and umbrellas, up their gin selection, up their staff, make gin tasting sessions a thing and generally class the place up.

After re-kindling my love for gin whilst living in Berlin, I was really happy to discover The Office whilst out on a work party event. Now, I’m not greatly knowledgeable on gin, but the guys here certainly are! They have over 40 different types of gin and will help you choose the right one, along with what tonic would best suit it. Sometimes I’ve been in there and just asked if they have anything that goes well with ginger, strawberries or cucumber and they have found the perfect fit! Working only 10 minutes away, this place has become by favourite place to drink and I probably recommend this place to people more than anywhere else.

The office is one of my favourite spots in winter– come in and warm up under the fairy lights with a mulled cider before tucking into hearty and tasty penang curry– its the perfect cold weather cure. The bar prides itself on selling many many different types of gin– I’m a rum girl myself but I can see the appeal. It’s also got a sneaky outdoors section at the back which I didnt discover for years! Good in the summer(but busy) you can catch the afternoon sun whilst nibbling on chicken satay, gin in hand. Whats not to love?

The staff was very helpful with recommendations, and the seating was nice. They have a nice Thai menu, but I didn’t order anything. Nothing particularly stood out in this place, except the friendly staff. I’d go again for sure.

Having been a devotee of the Green Dragon — the pub The Office used to be — in my very well spent youth, I’ve been very reluctant to walk through the doors again, to see the results of gentrification. I know — get over it! I did manage to finally force myself in a week or so ago, and was pleasantly surprised. It’s still relatively grubby! I really don’t mean this in a negative way — it’s not dirty by any means, but it is lived in. And that’s just how I like my Sydney Street(former) legends. They offer a good selection of beers and wine, and the Thai food coming out of the kitchen looked really good. The clientele was mixed, with all the sorts of characters we’ve come to know and love about our fair city. And, praise be — it’s coming up to winter, and I’ve been told their Mulled Cider has to be tried to be believed — Office? Count me in…

Nice pub but small. I can’t speak for the men’s but the ladies’ is so teeny-tiny that you’ll crack your skull on the hand towel dispenser if you want to wash your hands. Don’t consider queueing for the loo or someone WILL open the door into your face. This is a bit irrelevant but I have to share this — they have plastered OVER tiles(I know this because there is a hole in one section of the wall). Why? There is a nice selection of summer drinks. I tried some sort of elderflower thingy with Pimms-like adornments which would’ve been lovely if it weren’t for the soda water. Still, I told the lady at the bar I’d read the menu wrong and didn’t actually like soda water so she gave me a glass of lemonade to add to it which I thought was nice. Well done bar lady. You get my seal of approval.

I’ve sort of boycotted this place for years for three reasons: -

The Office is one of the nicer pubs in the North Laine area, a lovely place for a drink and a bite to eat, especially with their lovely Thai menu. Unlike some of the others pubs in town, the Thai menu is actually more than just a nice addition to an already great pub: it’s a huge addition to an already amazing set-up. The pub is great, if often a little too busy, but everything here is great: good selection, not too expensive, great atmosphere and décor. It’s a very nice set-up in here: lots of light woods, a very nice quiet ambiance: all very relaxed, all very convivial. Drinks are not too expensive, and the choice of drinks is impressive: plenty of nice lagers and ciders, although there are no ales… Still, I can recognise a good set-up when I see one! It’s location is great, slap bang in the middle of the North Laine: an area in dire need of some nice drinking establishments. Choose here over Riki-Tik’s: it’s far nicer and less grotty.

This isn’t a bad place to have a bit of lunch and a few drinks. The Thai food is pretty good but the décor is a little sterile. It used to be a really cool hippy pub called the Green Dragon which had so much character so maybe I’m being a bit nostalgic. Its got a great position in the North Lanes and there’s a small garden outside to soak up some rays. The staff are all really friendly and in the evening you do get a bit of a mix of people at the bar. Still not as good as the old Dragon though.

Don’t be confused, the Office is not a work place, nor is it a Ricky Gervais comedy, it’s actually a very good pub. No bigger than someone’s living room, the Office is one of the cooler pubs around the Lanes area. The front wall is one large window that allows you to gaze out at the bustling North Lanes people traffic. This is a good excuse to take a seat and enjoy the strong selection of drinks, most notably a fine range of ciders. The Office also offers a homemade menu of Thai cuisine. The food tends to be fairly popular, this is no surprise given how good the food is. All the food is prepared on the premises, and really is surprisingly good given the lack of obvious connections to Thailand.

Whenever friends come in from out of town, The Office is the default watering hole to meet at. It’s always busy and buzzing, and a such a central location it’s perfect for mid town action plans. I’ve neglected The Office of late and perhaps should save it for said visits. The Thai food that is served here is really good, especially for what is a pretty standard pub. There’s not much comfort to be had on the derrière here, the wooden chairs and benches can leave you numb if you’re in or the long haul. But when the windows steam up and you’re gathered around Mulled Cider with friends, there’s not many other places I’d prefer to be numb.

The North Laine area can often feel surprisingly quiet in the evenings, when contrasted to the bustle of the place during the day. One exception to this, is the Office. A small pub, it can be difficult to get a seat at times, although as many are moving on elsewhere after a couple of pints here, it’s rarely a long wait. At the back is a small garden area, which in summer is a godsend in this people-choked part of Brighton — a lovely place to just sit back and relax for a couple of hours, particularly if you are in the middle of a tiring shopping dash. Last time I visited, they had temporarily stopped serving food. However, they generally serve some of the best Thai food in the city, with the massaman in particularly being highly recommended — just the right blend of spice and meaty creaminess.

Located amid the consumer commotion of Brighton’s Sydney Street, The Office is the perfect venue for a mid-shopping pit stop. The refreshingly large selection of ciders make it even more appealing during summer when all you want is to sit down with a cold beverage and enjoy the sun. The small outdoor area affords you this privilege but as it tends to get seriously busy on weekends, I would recommend visiting on a weekday. There’s not much more I can add to the other reviews, as they all seem to be pretty spot on. However, I have to say that when I ate there last I had to wait a while for my food, which was cold when it arrived. This put a small blemish on my opinions of the place but apart from that I’ve don’t have anything bad to say about The Office. Good atmosphere, good music and clean décor: always satisfactory.

The winter is upon us people and now is the time to stop drinking ice cold beer, and start drinking mulled cider for £2.50, which is where The Office comes in handy. Although I personally prefer a mulled wine, the mulled cider is a tasty alternative and when you’ve had a hard days shopping in the ice cold, it’s actually almost a necessity. The office also stocks board games and has big windows to spy on friends you do/don’t want to see shopping in the Laines. The interior isn’t as cosy and warming as smaller more independent pubs such as the Foundry or Great Eastern and it has a slightly generic gastro pub vibe about it in my opinion; A little bit trying to be upmarket with the sanded wood tables with flowers on each one and fancy light fittings. Though when it gets busy, the atmosphere is quite buzzy and fun, so a good pub to work into a pre-clubbing plan.

Like the previous reviewer, I’m always forgetting about this place. It really is great, and always packed on Fri/Sat nights. It has a great atmosphere, good range of drinks, and even serves up yummy and fairly cheap Thai food. I haven’t eaten there yet, but the friend I last went there with said it’s the best Thai she’s had in Brighton! What impressed me most was the range of cider — hailing from the West Country, this always features quite high on my agenda. I had a nice pint of Stowford Press to start, followed by some festive Mulled Cider. Prices not too bad for Brighton either — £3.10 and £2.50. I’d recommend this place during the daytime, because if it’s your first visit you’ll find it quite full up of locals and students on Fri/Sat evenings. It’s location is perfect for a hearty pitstop in the midst of that North Laine Christmas shopping.

I keep forgetting that I like The Office– the bar that is not the work space– and need to plan a night out there. It’s a bar/pub mix– the wooden tables of a pub with some of the sleekness of a bar. It only has one small room and a beer garden at the back which is quite nice and secluded on a sunny day, although it could do with a tidy and a paint job. The main bar room is quite atmospheric thanks to well placed candles, the huge front windows and some good music(a mix of contemporary dance, motown classics, and indie). They also happen to serve some excellent fresh thai food that is very reasonably priced and yuuummmy. The bar has some of the more expensive continental draught beers, an ale and lots of spirits– again that bar/pub combo. The only issue is that it gets very busy on a Friday and Saturday so go early if you want a table.

This pub has an excellent authentic Thai kitchen, which is an ideal feed whilst having a beer. Located smack in the middle of the bustling Sydney Street, it invariably can get a bit busy, but if you go at a less hectic time, you’ll be greeted with a very chilled atmosphere, top top thai selection and some bar staff who are particularly worth a mention. I popped in with my baby and they were more than happy for him to be there and were happy to provide me with what I needed to heat his bottle up! Recommended!
