I started going to the Eagle recently, as friend lives nearby and had realised he’d never been! He rated it highly as they sell a beer he drank a lot in the states, Blue Moon. I had my first taste of Blue Moon at the eagle and now I am hooked! It’s a bit on the pricey side at £4.95 for a pint, but it is delicious, so it’s nice to have as a treat now and then. However I was gobsmacked to see that the price of BrewDog Punk IPA is a whopping £5.80!!! And a bottle is £4.80, which is extortionate and why I have knocked off a star for this review! The Eagle has a great vibe and is always packed on a Friday afternoon as people are about to finish work, It’s in a great location too, in the North Laines.

I’ve always walked past the eagle, often thought, I will go in there one day. It’s always busy… Not just at the weekend but during the week. They have five or six outside benches and every day of the week, guaranteed there are people sitting outside having a beer or some kind of alcoholic beverage! I went there today on a Friday with two friends. It was 5.30 and there was a massive buzz around the place. It was packed with people, there was music playing, people chatting and drinking and i suddenly got that TGIFFEELING! As in THANKGODITSFRIDAY :). The time — 5.30 is important, normally you’d expect it to be pretty steady, but it was HEAVING, with people! It’s a pub that will definitely get you in the mood to go out. Although, if your like me and Friday night is a night were you just want to chill, it’s still a great place to feel as if you’ve been out to a lively bar, the benefits of that and getting home at a reasonable time too! The drinks are relativity cheap. They serve a good selection of drinks. My favourite which is rare in Brighton, blue moon. It’s lovely! Served with a slice or orange, it’s a smooth light lager, almost like a introducers drink to ale. It’s actually imported from America, so not so common over here, but really good beer! If you get a chance, get a pint! The music was good also! Variety and not too loud that your shouting to hear one another speak. The food looked great as the staff were passing by so I’m keen to try! The décor is nice also, and they advertise a functions room! Only down side– they don’t really have a great outside area. Although, it’s part of the Laines where not many cars drive down that particular street, this enables you to actually sit /stand in the road or pavement. Only do that if its a sunny day though … It’s no fun standing outside in the rain or sitting down on a wet pavement ! Great little place! Have a little gander if your round that way! Right near the basket Makers!

Busy classic English pub with great staff and ambience. We had a large group so worked out great. Food was huge and didn’t venture as needed a salad which was not on the menu that day!

We stopped here for a quick pint and pub lunch on a Monday afternoon. This place was already packed. I ordered a local ale, as did my husband. I also ordered the goat cheese and onion jam sandwich, which came with chips. My sandwich was amazing… so good. Good quality ingredients, and very good chips make for a very nice pub lunch. My husband ordered a carrot coriander soup of some sort, which came with some nice bread on the side. We saw a few burgers come out and they looked delicious. I had been here a few years back… It looks completely different. Apparently, there has been a significant remodel. Although, I did remember the toilets from before, and I am sad to report, those are not better. For some reason, both times there was loads of water on the floor with the toilet roll on the floor, in the water. Maybe it’s coincidence, maybe their toilets are just perpetually bad.

This was the first time i have been here since it has been refurbished(lord knows how long that was) and it looks so much better with the bar in the middle. Really cosy and comfy inside, the food is ever changing and always up to its usual high standards. I had the Pork and chorizo burger with giant hand cut chips, and it was a winner, as is most of their food. Really worth popping in for food or a quick pint to get off the beaten track and away from the crowds.

This is another«off the beaten path» pub in Brighton, if you’re looking for something low key and away from the crowds of the Lanes(but walkable from/to it). A nice cider on tap, good/friendly service and average prices. Food selection was more than your pub usuals, and I really enjoyed my honey roasted parsnip soup, which was clearly made to order, hearty and piping hot. The baked camembert looked great but I refrained from indulging my cheese addiction, and the fresh white sardine starter piqued my interest. Husband had the pork belly and cracklings sandwich with chips, and although on the heavy and greasy side(which is to be expected with a pork-on-pork sandwich) he was happy. Hunker down, chunky wood tables make for a casual, cozy vibe inside, and a few tables outside available if the weather cooperates. I would come back, and I would bring friends. I wouldn’t exactly rave about it(although, realizing they have an extensive vegan menu is pretty cool) but I would pitch it as a go-to, friendly pub with good food. Pretty much the definition of a 3-star experience, nice work Eagle.

I’ve had the pleasure of eating at the Eagle on numerous occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience on each visit. The pub is fairly large and there are tables dotted all over the place to host the many hungry diners that make this their port of call. The staff are wicked and very helpful with food suggestions. Most of the food is a mix of European cuisine, intersected with a few cheeky specials. Depending on the time of day you stop by, you should be prepared to have a fairly long wait for your meal. Everything is cooked to order(no bad thing) and this can add up if there are 5 checks on order ahead of yours. The drink selection matches the food well and you will have a good choice of cider, ale, beer, wine or spirits. I must admit, I have always dropped in for food and a drink and then moved onto other venues, so couldn’t really comment on how the place fares for an evening venue. I imagine it would either fill up with drinkers or thin out a bit once the kitchen shuts shop. All in all, a very nice location for some high end pub gastronomy.

We ended up here after the monsoons had let rip upon Pride ’09 at Preston Park, and though still damp and chilly, we quickly refound our joy de vivre at this lively Laines pub. With tables outside you feel like you actually in the Laines, and the inside is a bustling hive of chatter. Ales are in good supply with some specialities on tap, and the food, is classy pub-stuff, apparently sharing links with the Hop Poles management, and picking up some kitchen-kudos in the process. For a more traditional pub experience I prefer the Basketmakers just over the way, but when that is full, The Eagle is fine.

Buried in the miasma of North Laine businesses, The Eagle is one of the pubs that most have been to once, but never found again, as it is so out of the way as well as not really worth searching for again. It’s not that it’s bad: it’s a perfectly nice place for a drink, and a very chilled-out set-up, there are just a couple of small problems that take it from nice drinking spot to occasional watering hole. It’s a shame, as a lot here is lovely! The food, for example, is really great: a collection of vegan and organic delicacies. I’m not really the biggest fan of this kind of food, but it’s done well, and the quality’s more than you’d expect for a pub. Equally, their drinks selection is excellent, but it and the food is really far too expensive. One of the more pricey places in Brighton for a drink and a pub lunch, and that’s almost an understatement: for already expensive Brighton, this is a bit too much for my liking, and I’m not really sure the value for money is right here. The ambiance is also hit and miss: the wooden indoors, with lots of nice arty photos, is balanced by the awkward outdoor area, which looks tacked on, as well as sitting on the pavement in a quiet and slightly industrial part of town: there isn’t anything to look at, apart from concrete. Also, this is one of the windier parts of town: sitting out here is pretty unpleasant. Such a nice set-up, but a couple of small issues really drag the Eagle down. It’s close to being a favourite, if only the prices were more reasonable and there was a proper smoking garden. Shame!

I use to go to The Eagle very regularly, knowing a number of the staff working here. At the best of times, The Eagle is everything a pub in Brighton should be; busy, atmospheric but still relaxed. The inside is decorated with the photography of the former pub manager, with the décor very much ‘rustic wooden’. As for the food, it varies… Most of it is pretty good, although I did eat here once and then receive my order under 5 minutes after ordering, something that doesn’t bode brilliantly well. Equally, you should be aware that The Eagle is among the most expensive pubs in Brighton.

I went to The Eagle is search of fresh bread and left empty handed. It sounds a strange request I know but having checked the pub’s website for opening times, I was led to believe they had a working bakery that produces around thirty loaves of artisan bread every morning. Sadly, it appears the baker left several years ago but The Eagle have yet to amend their website! Luckily, they have a full working kitchen still and seem to do a roaring trade in simple British dishes like sausages and mash and roast chicken and vegetables. I was there for two hours last night and noticed over a dozen people happily tucking into big plates of food. Having already eaten, I nursed a couple of pints of guinness with friends. Situated opposite the Basketmakers Arms, The Eagle looks characterless from the outside but is actually quite cosy with terracota painted walls, comfy leather sofas and roaring fires. The punters seem welcoming and the music is usually quite mellow too. My only grumble is the staff aren’t particularly friendly or accomodating. As my grandma used to say: A smile doesn’t cost anything!

To get a table here on a Sunday afternoon you have to be cunning and swift or create such a scene that you put people off their food and cause them to leave. I would discourage the latter unless you’re still drunk from the previous night and have ‘that’ misplaced confidence. The popularity of the Eagle’s Sunday roast can be somewhat annoying, especially if you want to partake in the hoopla… and it’s worth it. Try not to get too thirsty as you inhale you roast though as the drinks a extremely expensive. There is a Scottish guy who runs it, get friendly with him and he may well just slide a few drinks your way. He did for me.

The Eagle is well known as a foodie pub, and its menu is extensive and very high quality. You’re unlikely to get a bad meal here. The concentration on food can mean that at certain times — Sunday lunchtime and early evening — everyone is here to eat and being here just for a drink means you have to endure glares from those waiting for a table so they can eat! That’s only a minor inconvenience though, and testament to the quality of the food. Outside of those times it makes a pretty good drinkers pub, with a few big tables for groups and some nice little corners to hole up in with a pint.

This is one of my favourite bars in Brighton. It’s large and roomy. The food here is top notch, and generally much more varied than other pubs. It’s not the cheapest around, but you get what you pay for. Plenty for veggies and some vegan dishes, as well as meat and fish. The service is ok — variable, as in some very glum staff seem to be employed as well as some enthusiastic smiley people who seem to care that you have a good time while you spend your cash. It’s usually very busy and if you want Sunday lunch best to get there no later than 1230. Queer friendly.

Despite reading a few surprisingly mixed reviews, The Eagle is one of my favourite pubs in Brighton. The décor is clean and tasteful, the atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are professional and friendly. Having chosen from a well-selected menu of drinks chances are you’ll be able to sup away in peace at one of the many tables provided. However, The Eagle is a place where simplicity sells and this makes it popular with a younger crowd so, if you’re looking for a touch of class and seclusion, it’s probably not for you. Having said that, the high-quality food alone makes The Eagle worth visiting, as the kitchen serves everything from burgers to perfectly seasoned butternut squash risottos. If you’re willing to pay a little extra for some passionately prepared grub then there’s no reason to hold back. Situated in the bustling north lanes, The Eagle is a top spot for some mid-shopping refreshments or a mid day meal. Other features include a hireable function room and an outdoor area.

I remember going to the Eagle when I first moved off campus and into town, after my first year at uni. I don’t remember it being particularly distinctive or especially popular back then. Maybe I had my head in the clouds, or arrived at the pub already a little too merry though, because the Eagle is certainly a lively and busting pub these days! Whenever I walk past, punters are pouring out on to the street and the picnic tables are always packed with people enjoying their hearty organic pub grub. It’s an especially nice spot in the summer, as the practically pedestrianized residential street is really pretty and provides a nice backdrop for al fresco drinking. They also do a good roast– I distinctly remember thinking the gravy was very tasty indeed. Although personally I prefer the more cottagey, cosy vibe across the street at the Basket Makers, the Eagle is much bigger, so is really good if you’re in a larger group. The crowd is a little older than some of the more central bars and pubs– it seems to be popular with young families and professionals, meaning it has a more mature, chilled atmosphere, especially at the weekend.

Your unlikely to stumble across the Eagle as it is situated down a back road in between London Road and the North Lanes. Its across the road from the Basket Makers so there’s a little hub of activity along Gloucester Road. Calling itself the Eagle Bar & Bakery the venue prides itself on its Vegan and Organic menu, its one of the best places in Brighton for Vegan food. The venue has a bustling bar and bakery downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. You can dine in the bar for around £5 or upstairs for £8. It has outside seating and is always absolutely rammed in the summer months. Its really popular with after work drinkers and always worth a visit if you vegan or just fancy a delish bite.

Great pub that is just ever so slightly tucked away keeping it hidden from the masses ! Has a great laid back atmosphere and attracts a similarly laid back crowd. I used to work near the Eagle and it was a favourite for a pub lunch and for after work drinks. There are quite a few excellent pubs in this area so it’s a great place to start if you want to do a mini pub crawl. The Eagle offers a traditional pub lunch menu. Food is hot, freshly cooked and delicious ! Prices are reasonable. Don’t have an extensive wine menu but do offer more than just red or white ! I’m not a beer drinker but I think they have a few unusual beers on tap(I’ll stand corrected on that though !)

This venue has an identity problem. It feels like it should be a bog standard boozer but is visited by hip individuals. There is also a gay crowd mixed in with the student drinkers. So its hard to say what market it is aiming for. The Real Ale is kept well. The seating is a bit hit and miss. There are leather sofas in the window area. And after a while, and a few beers, one wonders whether it is possible to get up out of them! Thereis a small seating area outside as well.

This is a cask-marqued Greene King pub, located directly opposite the Basketmaker’s Arms(so perfect for a pub crawl). It’s hard to miss, with its exterior walls painted a creamy shade of pink. Fortunately, the interior is rather calmer: in fact, the large, single room is an homage to stripped wood: the floors, half-panelled walls and furniture all blend harmoniously together, set off by dark terracotta paint scheme. One corner by the bar has 3 large leather sofas grouped together, separated from the rest of the pub by a large fish tank, set between two pillars — an unusual addition to a pub. The pub is gay-friendly, but like much of Brighton attracts a mixed crowd of punters. There’s a small outdoor seating area at the front. They sell several real ales, on our visit Greene King IPA, Abbott Best and Old Speckled Hen. They do food, including Sunday Roasts, but I’ve not eaten here. The staff seemed friendly enough, and the only downer was that the disco-themed music was slightly too loud for me.
