Went here yesterday! Fab little place. What I love about Brighton, is that although to a certain extent, it’s quite small. You think you’ve been everywhere, but actually you haven’t. This is a place, I’ve walked past but never thought to go in, never bothered to acknowledge what it was all about. Yesterday was different! It was sunny, I was meeting friends for a coffee, this place had an outdoor seating area, I was tired, couldn’t be bothered to mess about, the sun was beaming down, it was just convenient. I’m glad I sat down. Friendly service, generous cup of good quality coffee, a free lotus biscuit !!! What else can you ask for? If you haven’t been before, this is a Italian restaurant. The food looked really good and the smells were also very good! They also do take away pizza as a group of four, took away 7 boxes of pizza! It actually looks like a popular place! My friends and I, sat there for a good hour or two, watching the world go by and the staff didn’t bother us, didn’t ask us if we wanted anything else, didn’t make us feel bad for taking up a table. This is that kinda service I like! So the moral of the story for me … Never walk past somewhere, without looking at it, take it in, look indoors, if you’ve got some time and dollar order something! Because, today I found a nice little place, a stones throw away from my house, in a busy part of the laines, which serves authentic looking Italian food and good coffee. Let me just say … I will be going back for food! That way, I’m not feeding Starbucks or pizza express!!!

I ordered the takeaway pizza special at lunchtime £3.50 per pizza. Both pizzas were delicious, nothing skimped on, lots of cheese and toppings. The only small critique I can make is that the crust needed a bit of salt otherwise was great! I’ll be back!

Had a very simple Neapolitan pizza and a chat with the(I presume) owner Amir & was really impressed with the care put into things. Johns review covered all the bases but one point I wanted to add was that despite being licensed they allow you to bring your own booze for a pound corkage. How fair is that! BTW the pizza base was super thin & crispy and it cost less than eight pounds. Worthy of support indeed. Could this be the only place that Alice Reeves, the Queen of Qype, hasn’t actually been to???

Si Signore is a small Italian restaurant in the North Laine, specialising in Italian baguettes. Strange as that sounds, it is all very good, surprisingly flavoursome, if in a slightly ramshackle surrounding. The whole set-up here is a little peculiar: I feel as if this should be a take-away, or at least a walk-in deli, not some bizarre attempt at a restaurant. In the end, the food is good enough to warrant the eatery, if the experience is a peculiar one. Yes, Italian baguettes: it is as strange as it sounds. If it was an American deli place, where meatball subs were the specialty, I’d understand, but it isn’t. It claims to be a purely Italian restaurant, but it really is just a mish-mash. A tasty mess, but a mess nonetheless. The problem is, this peculiarity around the food also creates a peculiarity in the décor. Si Signore tries to be a restaurant, with some of the more traditional restaurant settings: tables with nice cutlery, tablecloths, and so on, but how exactly this will improve your enjoyment of a baguette is beyond me. Beyond that, the traditional Italian bits and pieces strewn around the place create more of a strange than home-y vibe. Mercifully, the prices are cheap, and you can get the food on take-out. I wouldn’t recommend eating here, but I would recommend the food as an alternate lunchtime treat. Give it a try: it’s weird, but good.

The rain was lashing down Sydney Street in a most un-Mediterranean-like manner when I ducked into Si Signore to take refuge and get something to eat. Immediately I felt as refreshed as if I had imbibed a beakerful of the warm south. From the photos of kissing couples adorning the walls to the(albeit plastic) grapes hanging over the counter, the atmosphere couldn’t be more Italianate if Berlusconi himself was poised by the entrance waiting to goose any female passers-by. The evening menu’s starters feature peeled prawns on lettuce with home-made Marie Rose sauce(£3.95); smoked salmon and prawns(£4.95); and calamari fritti(£4.95). Pizzas run the gamut from Al Prociutta(mozzarella, tomato sauce, rocket, Parma ham, parmean cheese £7.95) to Valentino(mozzarella, tomato sauce, mushroom, pepperoni, ham, Italian herbs £7.95) by way of Fruiit de Mare(£8.75) and Tre Gusti(£7.95). Pasta offers the usual suspects(penne, spaghetti cannelloni et al all around £7.95) and side dishes include marinated olives, fries and garlic bread. Deserts comprise, chocolate cake, amaretto, cheese cake and ice cream. A bottle of Graspello Rosso is £10.95; as is Graspello Bianco. If you want to push the boat our Pinot Grigio Rosé Sparkling Tosti is £18.95. Service courtesy of the impeccable Sienna-born Amir(Iranian dad, Italian mum) and his friendly staff.

Mange Mange! That’s what I hear in my mind when I eat at Si Signore, an Italian eatery in North Laine. Si Signore is a fabulous Italian lunch spot that will have your mouth saying«Si Si». With an extensive menu that includes probably one of the best baguette sandwiches I’ve had in Brighton(The Mafioso), Si Signore also offers BYOB. The Mafioso was layered with spicy Salami, Peppers and the tangiest mustard. On the side I ordered the green salad, which absolutely lived up to it’s name! packed with rocket and avocado and drenched in a delicious oil dressing it was the perfect accompaniment. The prices are reasonable and the staff friendly and helpful. Definitely one of my favorites in the Laine.

I walked past this place loads of times when I was going down the lanes. Very glad I went in now! Very good Italian food, beautifully served, not exactly cheap, but worth it. Especially good for a fresh, hot coffee and some ciabatta with serrano ham and soft cheese.
