Average curries. We got a delivery and from my experience delivered curry is never as good as eating in, but we havent eaten in here, so I cant comment. Overly sweet nawabi murgh. Chicken tikka balti, not tikka’d. Rubbery nan bread. Disappointing. Hove tandoori is still the only decent curry house in brighton I’ve experienced(Chilli Pickle aside — but thats a different kettle o fish), but sadly they dont deliver to our side of town.

Takeaway Ok, nothing special. It all kind of tasted the same. Polite and efficient order taking/delivery but the food is a let down.

I agree with all the reviewers about the Raj. It really is top notch. Fab food, fab service and excellent prices. If you don’t check it out, you’re missing out… Fact.

Put simply, this is the best restaurant in Brighton, and the best UK/Indian restaurant I have been to outside of the Balti Triangle. If that doesn’t get you thinking about a visit I don’t know what will. The food at the Raj is consistently top-notch. All meals are prepared from scratch on the premises. With a wide range of mains(veggie’s are well catered for) there will be something to fit anyone’s palate. While spicy dishes are certainly in abundance, the Raj can provide for even the most delicate of sensibilities — this is the only Indian that a friend who suffers from IBS can eat in! Should you find the sheer variety of food too daunting, never hesitate to ask one of the highly attentive waiters, who have a well deserved reputation for matching the right meal to the right person. The atmosphere of this restaurant is, unfortunately, rare nowadays. This is a restaurant that expects you to linger over your meal for hours. Don’t fear an aggressively hovering waiter attempting to move you on directly after you finish your mains — it is perfectly acceptable to dawdle, or stay around for another round or two of beers if you wish. Feel free to factor 3 – 4 hours for a meal here. Expect a free brandy or Bailey’s before you leave, as well as warm lemon-scented towels(!) and a few other free odds and ends. They have a variety of «Indian» lagers, including the mighty Kingfisher, and a good selection of wines. The prices here will be £2−3 more for food than your average curry house in Brighton, but the quality of food and the size of the portions easily makes up for this. As far as I can recall I have only once been able to finish a full main course and sides in one sitting. I challenge anyone not to enjoy an evening here. From the superb attention lavished on the food, to possibly the best appetizers I have ever found at an Indian, when you factor in the freebies you will wonder why you bothered dining at any other Indian in town. My personal advice is to ask for a Garlic Lamb Balti. The meat is cooked to perfection! No dry, overcooked mutton here…

Really friendly service, reeeeally generous portions, a wide menu, decent prices and yummy food. My favourite Indian in Brighton. Oh and they usually offer free brandy or baileys afterwards.

Raj is situated in Preston Circus(follow the postcode not the map with this profile!) which is a little bit out the way for a lot of folk myself including but of course its good for a takeaway! Cheap as chips for vege and they have a considerable selection. It’s certainly the best Indian I’ve had in the city, but from the look of the exterior not the most glam place to sit in and dine.

This restaurant is tucked away on Preston Circus so if you’re not on the lookout for it, you may miss it. They offer to cater for any requirements and as my friend is averse to oil they made extra effort to avoid it in her dish and fry in butter-odd I know. All vegetable and main dishes cost only £4.95, and a couple of pounds extra if you wanted a King Prawn version of the dish.

If you want great Indian takeaway, this is the place to get it from. This is the best Indian takeaway I’ve ever had, and I’m very picky! Everyone I know absolutely loves this place and its amazing food, which is good value for money too. Their veggie dishes are some of the best I’ve tasted and their naan bread is simply divine. Highly recommended!

The location of Raj Pavillion means you’re unlikely to stumble across it unless you live in the area, it also suffers from the fact its situated in a area rife with Indian restaurants. Having said that the restaurant itself is a great, traditional Indian with friendly staff and gorgeous food. The exterior makes it look a little bit tacky with a luminous sign but the interior décor is pretty traditional with bamboo chairs candles. Its not the most ambient or romantic restaurant on earth but what it lacks in atmosphere it makes up for with delicious food.
